Join Jim and Greg as they serve up three new martinis Thursday!  First, they applaud the Florida State Senate for permanently removing former Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel after his horrific leadership before, during, and after the Parkland high school shooting.  They also shudder as a majority of Americans favor rewriting the first amendment and nearly half want to ban hate speech without ever defining what it is.  And they discuss the high drama on Capitol Hill as Democrats conduct impeachment-related depositions in secret and Republicans hold a sit-in to protest what they see as a lack of transparency.

I appreciate having a bit of the theater of the absurd on our side for once.

The guys left out part of the story about increasing coolness toward the First Amendment:  how do Republicans and Democrats differ?

This from Pew Research in 2015 may be an indicator:

Nearly twice as many Democrats say the government should be able to stop speech against minorities (35%) compared with Republicans (18%). Independents, as is often the case, find themselves in the middle. One-third of all women say the government should be able to curtail speech that is offensive to minorities vs. 23% of men who say the same.

But if I’m a minority, why isn’t it illegal for me to be insulted?

It’s illegal to insult only those minorities that have an inferiority complex.

So it’s okay to insult minorities who are really BETTER than they think they are, but not allowed to insult minorities who are really WORSE than they think they are (which sounds like “speaking truth to power”)?  Interesting.
