Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Join Jim and Greg as they welcome a federal judge striking down President Biden’s attempted 100-day moratorium on deportations. They also lay out the many reasons the Democrats’ push for D.C. statehood is a terrible idea. And they have plenty to say about the new push for people to wear two masks and China claiming anal swab COVID tests are more accurate.

Two masks?
How about…
And, for two masks:
I’ve had Covid. I cannot pass it on nor can I get it from someone else. There is no reason for me to wear a mask. None. No one benefits from it, including me. On the other hand wearing a mask offers small but real hazards to my health. So why should I wear a mask?
Especially since there are exactly ZERO peer-reviewed studies showing general wearing of masks are effective in stopping the spread of Covid. Just like there are exactly ZERO peer-reviewed showing in person-classes offer a hazard to school children.
Do you know what is more likely to kill you than contracting a case of Covid? Going to work each day if you are a logger, an oilfield worker, or a long-haul trucker. Do you know what is even more likely to kill you than contracting a case of Covid? Going to work each day wearing a mask if you are a logger, an oilfield worker, or a long-haul trucker.
I believe D.C residents should be citizens of a state
Maryland
That’s a valid option. Or whichever adjacent state will take them.
But anyone who lives in DC knows the voting situation there. If they choose to live in DC, that’s one of the aspects. I don’t think it’s significantly different than, for example, people who volunteer to serve in the military giving up the right to not obey orders.
I appreciate that. However, whether they vote or not, I do believe in the principal that the people who live in the District do not enjoy the same level of representation that residents of all other states do. (I have similar feelings about all U.S. territories, but statehood for American Samoa was not part of this podcast.) I live in the part of Virginia that used to be part of the District. Granted, it was retroceded when there were far fewer people than currently live in D.C., but it is a precedent. The Red Zone restrictions put in place for the inauguration supply the perfect boundaries for the “federal enclave.” No one should live there but the President.
Obviously, what is wanted is power, not really “taxation with representation.”
That’s certainly another option. But until/unless that happens, especially since DC is really such a small area to start with, anyone who volunteers to live there does so knowing the circumstances.
And you’re right, it’s really about power, they want 2 more presumably-Democrat senators and a House member. Otherwise they should be satisfied with reverting those other areas to surrounding states, which is NOT what they want.
What I don’t get is, if Biden runs the executive and the executive controls ICE etc, doesn’t he just order ICE not to deport anyone?
Anal swabs for COVID testing?
Oh boy, I can only imagine who would want to perform this responsibility.
“Bend over and spread those cheeks.”
Maybe that’s why they want to bring in all those poor immigrants…
On a side note about the vaccines, where the media (and Jim!) is not doing a good job making clear what they actually do.
This is from the WHO Chief Scientist: “I don’t believe we have the evidence on any of the vaccines to be confident that it’s going to prevent people from actually getting the infection and therefore being able to pass it on,” Swaminathan said. The top three vaccines — Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca — have been found in large trials to prevent recipients from becoming sick or seriously ill, but researchers are still trying to determine whether the vaccines prevent the virus from spreading from the recipient to others.
You know what else has been found to “prevent recipients from becoming sick or seriously ill” when confronted by viruses? Losing weight, exercise, fresh air and sunlight, eating healthy food, and sufficient sleep. Those are the best recommendations that should have been given by the CDC to the public since the start of this imposed nightmare.
But everyone (and Jim!) is just assuming that these vaccines simply prevent infection, because they are called “vaccines”.
Good grief, we are in a world of low information, where most of the media continues to lower the intelligence of anyone listening. How about our side tries to do better?
We are living in an age of superstition. People would rather believe in magic – which is what vaccines are all about. That includes both those who blindly believe in them and anti-vaxxers.
