Join Jim and Greg as they welcome analysis from a Johns Hopkins University expert that we are much closer to herd immunity against COVID than Dr. Fauci will admit. They also shudder as President Biden is planning to ram through an aggressive, far-left agenda rivaling the New Deal or the Great Society. They shake their heads as the Suez Canal is effectively shut down because a ship has gotten stuck there. And Greg shares a family story in connection with the bicentennial of modern Greek Independence.

Is Greece actually Independent?  That might come as a surprise to the other countries that keep bailing them out.

If that cargo ship isn’t already empty, why not take off all the cargo?  That might get it loose.

Dr. Fauci and other experts have said things they know are outright false, or exaggerated, express more certainty than is warranted.  In other words, they lie.  A lot of people, maybe most, figure out they are lying, and so question what the experts later say.  Some people will not believe anything those experts say.  Hence we have many who think this virus is a hoax.

I think they do it because they want to “err on the side of safety”.  I’ve found that many experts know a lot in their narrow field, but other than that silo, they are no more informed about the world than other people.  Sometimes they are even less informed about general knowledge, perhaps because they spent all their formative years studying one thing.

This current problem is not just medical.  It also affects everything in society.  Millions of people have lost jobs.  Millions of children have had their education held back.  And many more millions have been harmed in other ways.  But many medical experts don’t see the big picture.  They only see the medical effects.  So they ignore the bad effects of excessive lockdown.  Instead they lockdown too much, and so greatly increase the other problems.

Dealing with this problem is a fine balancing act and leaders need to understand the trade offs.  Swinging too far in any direction has terrible consequences.

I think this is a big factor in another issue, global warming.  We have had many apocalyptic scenarios, which have not come to pass.  And many global warming proponents minimize, or ignore, or have no understanding of, the economic downsides of their solutions.

Maybe as a last resort. That ship can carry 20k  20 foot containers when fully loaded and it looks to be close to that. What a nightmare.

Still seems like it might be easier and faster even as a first resort.  Compared to what they seem to be doing now.

But many medical experts don’t see the big picture. They only see the medical effects.”  Exactly.  That’s what they’re supposed to do.

It’s political leaders’ job to balance that advice against what they’re told by economists, psychologists, education experts, etc.

On the whole, red state governors instinctively performed that balancing act; while blue state governors swore allegiance to the loudest voice in the medical bureaucracies.
