Conservative film critics, like other despised and oppressed minorities, naturally try to rationalize away their oppression. So the guys here, down so long it looks like up to them, try to find glimmerings of truth and silver linings in vicious propaganda films like Vice, and Oliver Stone’s work.

The actress, Rosa Salazar, who portrays the title character in the movie, Alita, coming out next month, is 33. She just looks like a teenager.

The source material, a manga series that began in 1990, was brilliantly adapted into anime in 1993, as Battle Angel. I’m hoping that the new film lives up to the anime, but the odds are against it.

The Other Guys is McKay’s most underrated movie. “Gator don’t play no ….!”
