Today we discuss the state of play between universities and the pro-Hamas encampment movement, and we consider Mike Johnson’s seeming declaration of a counter movement. Speaking of encampments, why are tents proliferating in urban areas and what does it say about society? We also talk about the terrible new GDP numbers, why no one took a victory lap after Joe Biden signed the foreign aid bill, and much more. Give a listen.

Abe touched on my biggest concern about the whole ongoing campus woke nonsense. What happens in 30 years when the law students from Columbia, or the law students who shouted down the federal judge in Berkely, or the law students who prevented speakers from being heard at Yale are filling Supreme Court seats? If the country isn’t done for by then, it will be once they gain control of interpreting the Constitution.

The “snowflakes” we laughed at 15 years ago are now in positions of influence (see NYT newsroom, NPR, college faculties, et al) and it is not going well. We assumed they would grow out of it in the real world, but obviously many have not.

we see the effects, how many in current campus were part of the 60/70 radicals? e.g. Dohrn, Ayers, Mark Rudd …

Just look at Canada. We’re 20 years ahead of you. All the Commie Cowards who refused to fight in Vietnam came to Canada. From 1965 – 1975 roughly 150 000 draft dodgers, many got jobs in academia, giving Canada’s culture a hard sharp pull to the left. Many stayed even after Jimmy Carter’s 1977 amnesty to draft dodgers…

This had a much longer term effect on Canada’s culture than what was appreciated at the time…
