It’s a special Thursday night edition of the Hinderaker-Ward Experience (HWX). John Hinderaker of Power Line and Brian Ward of Fraters Libertas reconvene to discuss the vital issues of the moment. They’re also joined by the great Steven Hayward (of AEI, Power Line and the University of Colorado). The rollicking conversation includes:

* a salute to Rosh Hashanah

* how Lutherans repent (and what they have to repent for)

* Syria, Syria, Syria (seriously)

Also Loon of the Week (on shifting red lines) and This Week in Gatekeeping (the thin red line between Fascism and right-wing blogs).

All feedback is welcome and encouraged in the comment section. We hope you enjoy.

    Not that what John said is incorrect, but in addition to corporate confession in all of our Divine Services, Lutherans also have private confession. Lutherans probably avail themselves of this gift about as often as Roman Catholics do (which is to say the actual practice is abysmal), but it is a Lutheran practice. Right there in the Lutheran Service Book (hymnal) is “Individual Confession and Absolution” on page 292-293

    Much more on this from Lutheran pastor (and Ricochet member!) here.

    Is it – does Obama want to bomb Syria or not?

    I understand that I was over-caffinated and stuck in traffic while listening to the podcast and I also realize that we cannot spent our lives in perpetual outrage as the left does. Nevertheless I was slightly irked by the entire , ha,ha laughing discussion of Berkley of Boulder and how academia is pretty much enemy territory because I was thinking about how our enemies on the left do not cede any territory in this way. They relentlessly and remorselessly bring all their guns to bear on every single conservative outpost, Hillsdale, Fox news, Alan West, Michelle Bachman, Ted Cruz etc. They laugh nothing off, indeed they never laugh at all.

    Really, the worst thing about the complete lack of integrity on the left is the fact that Bush sought out and got Congressional approval for Iraq, sought out and received UN resolutions supporting the use of force, and had an actual coalition of nations (anything greater than 1 is better than Barry’s record) who jumped in with both feet to stop a tyrant who had, as one of his many thousands of sins, used chemical weapons. And not on a relatively small scale, but large-scale usage on civilian populations.

    Yet not one of these drooling clowns cares to look in the mirror and state the obvious-they opposed Bush then not on high moral ground, but on morals made of quicksand,hoping to vault themselves into higher office, higher public opinion,and basically used it as a tool of self-aggrandizement.

    That’s it; that’s all it ever was. The rest of it was wrapping themselves in faux outrage over the usurpation of the Constitution (even though the majority of Dems supported Bush in the vote),and throwing idiots like Cindy Sheehan out in front of cameras.

    They are nauseating, and should be beaten from Fort America.
