I was hoping that members would just ignore this new “show” entirely, but that would be good.

How about an episode featuring the anti Trumpers, Kristol, Goldberg, Long, Podhoretz, the Trump agnostics, and Hanson, Yoo, Heyward, Lucretia, and other Trump friendlies?

Good luck getting all those people in the same room.  I mean Kristol is now a democrat.

I didn’t hear it yet – doubt that I ever will – but my guess is that they aren’t planning to have guests.  That’s not what this one is about.

You’d be wrong. They are intending to have guests including members. You should indicate your interest in being a guest.

That wouldn’t happen.  Just for starters, it wouldn’t be an… equal forum?

    Bethany,

I want to know just how old a guy has to be to get away with a free grab. I mean, I’m nowhere near ninety, but am a graybeard. I just need to know these things.

To be a bit more serious, I think it would depend a lot on the woman being fondled and her age. My mother had an experience when she was perhaps twenty-one. She met my father’s grandfather, who was 87 or 88, and the old boy copped a feel. At the time, she was horrified and said nothing. As she got older, she understood a little better and laughed about it. It’s easy to dismiss it for yourself at the age you are, but I would be careful about being cavalier about such things.

You’re right about Kristol, but that transformation alone is worthy of a show to hear him explain how that process logically unfolded, if that’s possible.

I expect he would claim that he’s actually the Real Conservative, as so many others like him do.

I am absolutely delighted that you folks are doing this. Several of us have expressed an interest over the years in a more active public involvement from management, including both founders and editors. This is a wonderful start, and I hope you keep it up.

You asked for suggestions. One of the important things you two have to offer is a view into the sensibilities behind Ricochet. The flagship podcast lets us hear from the founders, but their conversations have far more to do with things outside of Ricochet than with the platform and its future. The two of you can give us a different perspective, helping us to understand the long-term direction of Ricochet, the goals of the people who run it, and the role they want Ricochet to play in the larger battle to save America.

I have opinions about what is needed to stem the tide of radicalism and empower normal common sense citizens. I don’t know if Ricochet can be or wishes to be an important part of that effort. I’m hopeful that Ricochet will play an increasingly important role.

Please do engage the membership. It won’t always be easy or pleasant, obviously, but no one ever said being an editor was easy, right? I’m looking forward to subsequent episodes being focused more on Ricochet, and specifically on the blogging side of the platform, which often feels to some of us like the bastard stepchild to the podcast money machine.

Welcome, and thanks for reaching out.

I don’t mind that Rob is a poorly informed RINO. The flagship podcast is always interesting.

Regarding guests: we have plenty of podcasts that have guests. I think it would be nice if the editors restricted whatever guests they had to people who actually are involved with the blogging side of ricochet. That would include people who write here and who respond to comments.

And I would say that even if I didn’t think that the guest in question was fairly despicable.

On the royal family, I have to admit that I follow them a little.

I’m fascinated with them because I don’t know why they do it, why they feel it’s useful that they do what they do.  Their daily grind is showing up to events, many of which do have a charitable or public service angle, and making pleasant conversation.

While I don’t consider The Crown to be an accurate portrayal, they are almost always dealing with a bad apple within their ranks, so when I look back on Diana’s and Charles’s travails, I realize that they’ve had other scandals that were just as bad.

I do recommend one biography, if you want to get a framework of the modern royal family in the first half of the 20th century, and that’s of Mary of Teck, who was Queen Consort to King George V, and Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother.

She was born in Kensington Palace and grew up amongst the royals when Queen Victoria reigned.

Her mother-in-law was Queen Alexandra, wife to Queen Victoria’s eldest son (there were tensions between the two).  She was the mother to two Kings, one of which abdicated, and she lived to see her second son die and Queen Elizabeth ascend to the throne.

And as Queen Consort, she had a big part in modernizing the royal family into what it is today, including that daily grind I mentioned above.

Probably a big part of her son’s abdication had to do with boredom, and what he would be expected to do.  The changes she instituted — had to institute, really if the royals were to remain relevant, set the tone for his upcoming reign.  He did resent it.

The biography I read was Matriarch; Queen Mary and the House of Windsor by Anne Edwards.
