The government was going to “shutdown” this past Friday. But Max told you last Tuesday that the Republicans would fold. And they did. They always say it’s so the government won’t shut down. But the government never shuts down. We know this. We’ve gone through this, many times. It never actually shuts down. Some federal employees get furloughed and then they always get back pay. So essentially they get paid vacation. That’s the worst that has ever happened. Some lazy employees in the department of redundancy department get to stay home and still get paid. Boohoo!

Also Alec Baldwin cried in an interview. But he wants you to know that he’s not the victim here.

Human history is full of the stories of peasants, subjects, and tribes. Yet the concept of the “citizen” is historically rare—and was among America’s most valued ideals for over two centuries. But without shock treatment, warns historian Victor Davis Hanson, American citizenship as we have known it may soon vanish.

In The Dying Citizen, Hanson outlines the historical forces that led to this crisis. The evisceration of the middle class over the last fifty years has made many Americans dependent on the federal government. Open borders have undermined the idea of allegiance to a particular place. Identity politics have eradicated our collective civic sense of self. And a top-heavy administrative state has endangered personal liberty, along with formal efforts to weaken the Constitution.

He doesn’t seem to understand that the hammer is what fires the gun, not the trigger. I think that probably he had his finger on the trigger, though. He says he didn’t “pull” the trigger. Probably he had pressure on the trigger and so the hammer had nothing to prevent it from striking.

Or the hammer wasn’t all the way back and cocked, but was far enough back that when he released it, it struck the primer hard enough.
