National Review artist Roman Genn came to America from the Soviet Union in 1991. In this episode, he compares the ideology he left behind with that which has gained a strong foothold in this country. His analysis, which comes at a pivotal moment, is worth hearing. And then there are the laughs, which are always plentiful when Roman and Dave have the chance to commiserate. Then, Ricochet Member Boss Mongo (a.k.a. Lt Col Brendan Welsh, US Army Special Forces Retired) drops by to discuss what sorts of national security threats await the new Biden Administration (hint: America’s adversaries are “giggling like little girls.”).

Otherwise, studio lighting issues, wardrobe changes, and unexpected guests dot the landscape of this rather unique episode. Enjoy!

Finally, if you’re listening to Dave’s show, but you’re not a Ricochet member, there is a way you can get a 30 day free trial membership . Tune in to learn more!

    Having fun listening to this.

re caricatures, Roman drew one of himself for me on a napkin. He is a very funny person in addition to a great artist. One of the funniest Night Owl sessions ever had him and Rob Long on stage.

The cartoon he referred to (from magnet on my frig):

It doesn’t much matter if the Constitution-loving right has most of the guns if the left controls a partisan military with all its modern toys. The vague purge of “extremists” and “racists” (terms which Democrats regularly apply to Republicans in general) is something Republican politicians must question and expose.

He gave me an autographed copy of that print. It hangs on the wall in the hall on the way to my workshop because my wife still can not stand looking at old Smuggly’s face. It was as gift for housing him and Melissa when they were in town for CPAC.

Hint, never get into a drink for drink evening with a Russian… He will win, and you will run out of hard cider.

Just finished listening.  Great podcast – funny and interesting.  Never having heard Roman Genn before, I thought at first that he was putting us on with a fake Russian accent.  I’ve done a better one entertaining my kids while reading them books.  But I guess it’s real.

BossMongo was his usual informative and amusing self.

    Well done.

If NR ever sails again, it would be worth the price just to hear him day after day. If he, Rob, and James were all on a night owl, the comedy routine would be epic.
