ABC Cancels Roseanne After Racist Tweet
If you’ve ever encountered Roseanne Barr on Twitter, you know she is a bit … off. She regularly shares insane musings, personal attacks, and conspiracy theories that would make Alex Jones think the chemtrails finally got her. Roseanne’s always been this way, regularly attracting attacks from the left, right, and center. (Remember the conservative reaction to her ugly rendition of the National Anthem?) On Tuesday, she stepped in it big time with a tweet so bad that ABC cancelled her hit sit-com reboot hours later.
What did she say this time? Earlier Tuesday morning, in a now-deleted Tweet, Roseanne took aim at former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, identifying her by her initials:
She later claimed it was a joke and apologized, but the internet is forever (as the above screen-cap shows). Racism can’t be deleted as easily as a tweet.

Roseanne’s co-stars registered their disgust:
I am hurt, embarrassed, and disappointed. The racist and distasteful comments from Roseanne are inexcusable.
— Emma Kenney (@EmmaRoseKenney) May 29, 2018
I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.
— Wanda Sykes (@iamwandasykes) May 29, 2018
And in just a few hours, ABC pulled the plug on their biggest surprise hit.
Many Twitterers on the right claim that Roseanne was victimized by a politically correct mob just because she supports Donald Trump. If they fired her over Tweeting “I’m on the Trump train,” they’d have a point.
Instead, she was canned because she said a black woman was half-ape. Roseanne was fired for being a disgusting racist.
And, as a result of her idiotic idea to document her racism on Twitter, she got her entire cast and staff fired along with her.
For Roseanne’s part, she now says she’s quitting Twitter. Probably should have done that last night.

Never watched her original show. Wasn’t interested in watching her reboot. I’m not surprised she said something nasty and racist. I’m just surprised she said it about Valerie Jarrett. Please let’s not brand her a Trump supporter. We really don’t need her to be some sort of martyr or standard-bearer.
It’s best we just avert our eyes and look away.
They took a chance on her. She blew it. That happens. The real problem here is caused by “conservatives” who leaped to her defense. There is nothing defensible here. She has been in the public eye for over 30 years. She knows how this works. She thought huge ratings meant invincibility. It doesn’t.
This is good advice. I’m also confused as to why she brought up Valerie Jarret. Jarret has now become relevant again.
Wait, I think I get it! She tweeted those things about Jarret so that Jarret’s career and public persona would get a new lease on life. Roseanne is secretly a Progressive, helping out left-wing women!
Charlton Heston is Valerie Jarrett’s father?
Stephen Kruiser’s recent tweet applies here:
She said a boneheaded, unfunny and hurtful racist thing. Fire her, cancel the show, tear up her star on the walk of fame. Let’s turn the outrage up to eleven because then we won’t hear the unfunny hurtful and even racist things that flit about in all our heads every day.
It was tasteless, racist and anti Iranian but would folks here also seek this kind of termination if she had made a tasteless anti Asian anti Christian joke, or the equivalent about caucasians or Jews? Almost certainly not because it wouldn’t get anywhere because these wouldn’t have a mob behind them. We’ve completely accepted the politburo’s determinations because we fear the mob. The reaction was predictable and of course people duck for cover in the face of a really stupid remark, but should we be cheering freeze dried instant mobs?
I suppose that it’s too late for Roseanne to sit in on one of those Starbucks sessions …
LOL. Her support for Trump was known prior to the show being put back on the air. Her support for Trump was written into the darn pilot. Her support for Trump was front and center in almost every episode of the reboot. They did not fire her because she supports Trump.
If I was a publicist for any actors or artists, I would require as part of my contract that my client stay off Twitter.
Thanks to those who answered my query. I understand that it was her show. I just had a thought that perhaps they could build a whole new show around some other prominent person. I feel bad about everyone involved. Not only the other actors but the camera-people, writers, set-designers, etc. They are all out of work now, because of this terrible woman!
If she had said something on the same level as this infamous tweet, but it related to Asians, I think she would have been fired.
If it had related to Jews, she may have been able to get out of it since she is Jewish.
And the exact opposite is also true: the only reason she’s getting support from anyone on the right is because she supports Trump, full-stop.
Let’s remember this is the same woman who horribly botched the national anthem, grabbed her crotch, and was unapologetic. She tweeted out George Zimmerman’s home address after he shot Trayvon Martin. And she ran for the presidential nomination of the freaking Green Party! Add racism to that and it sounds like the caricature of an out-of-control lefty.
Yet all she needed to do was utter support for Trump, and millions of conservatives suddenly considered her one of their own. Sad.
Exactly. Taking Roseanne out of Roseanne just leaves you with a show about nothing.
Wait a minute…..
No additional branding or spinning required. She is a full-throated Trump supporter in real life, and was on this show.
Let’s recall this “timeline” –
Trump supporters no more than a few weeks ago: “The success of ‘Roseanne’ shows that real Americans want an alternative to the fake news media and their sitcoms. Good for Roseanne!”
Today: “We’ve known she’s crazy for 30 years. Not surprised. But she doesn’t represent us.”
So, which is it?
Larry David would sue.
But if it had been about Trump, or his wife, or his kids, or anything else about him, she would have been fine. There are no limits when it comes to Trump.
Millions?
Does this mean no more “Barcelona” jokes?
No, she was essential.
Counterfactuals are unhelpful.
Kathy Griffin was not fine after she held up that fake head of Trump.
If Jarrett guest-starred on the show, the ratings would be off the charts….great idea
Who said I was trying to help?
Quite obviously she was not fine before she held up that fake head of Trump.
But is it the truth? Is it actual?
I am in the second group. I was never in the first group. You question is easily answered.
How can a counterfactual be the truth? It is by definition counter to facts.
Racist.
No TV show for you!
*sigh*
