ABC Cancels Roseanne After Racist Tweet

If you’ve ever encountered Roseanne Barr on Twitter, you know she is a bit … off. She regularly shares insane musings, personal attacks, and conspiracy theories that would make Alex Jones think the chemtrails finally got her. Roseanne’s always been this way, regularly attracting attacks from the left, right, and center. (Remember the conservative reaction to her ugly rendition of the National Anthem?) On Tuesday, she stepped in it big time with a tweet so bad that ABC cancelled her hit sit-com reboot hours later.

What did she say this time? Earlier Tuesday morning, in a now-deleted Tweet, Roseanne took aim at former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, identifying her by her initials:

She later claimed it was a joke and apologized, but the internet is forever (as the above screen-cap shows). Racism can’t be deleted as easily as a tweet.

https://twitter.com/therealroseanne/status/1001471669641216005

Roseanne’s co-stars registered their disgust:

And in just a few hours, ABC pulled the plug on their biggest surprise hit.

Many Twitterers on the right claim that Roseanne was victimized by a politically correct mob just because she supports Donald Trump. If they fired her over Tweeting “I’m on the Trump train,” they’d have a point.

Instead, she was canned because she said a black woman was half-ape. Roseanne was fired for being a disgusting racist.

And, as a result of her idiotic idea to document her racism on Twitter, she got her entire cast and staff fired along with her.

For Roseanne’s part, she now says she’s quitting Twitter. Probably should have done that last night.

Couldn’t ABC have just fired Roseanne, without putting all of the people behind her show out of work?

And if that wasn’t bad enough, she used a hyphen where an em dash was required.

    Disgusting.

She deserved it. When you have to spout off every off the cuff thought via Twitter, you get what you deserve.  It was racist. She can join Kathy Griffin and that nasty correspondence dinner woman…what’s her name, for a Comedians with Foul Mouths tour.  Too bad for the actors who supported Rosanne and were happy to be back.

Not really. You can’t have Roseanne without Roseanne. She was the brand.

ABC fired her because she supports Trump. That’s it, full-stop. Liberals and NeverTrumpers are going to pretend that’s not the reason, just like they’re pretending that a “covert human intelligence source who secretly obtains information on other people in exchange for monetary compensation” is a not a spy.

When Democrats are crushed in November and the GOP increases its majorities in both houses, you can look back to ABC firing Roseanne not as the sole cause but as an example of why. The cultural elites hate real Americans.

It probably had something to do with her being an insane person spouting disgusting things in a public forum. Granted people in the business didn’t like her because of her ideas, whatever those were at any given moment. She wasn’t fired for that reason.

Roseanne’s tweet was vile. She was fired because she doesn’t represent Disney’s values.

And yet, Keith Olbermann is still employed, therefore he must surely represent Disney values.

My household will be boycotting ABC. The one bit of refreshing sit com in decades, and it now is off the air.

Meanwhile the major news stations continue to spew their lies.

    http://abc.go.com/news/local-stations/contact-your-local-abc-station

Any here who wish to boycott, above is a URL that will take you to the list of states, and under each state is more local stations. Be sure and call both the comments people and the news story people through the main menu at the station.

It was so dumb that I can’t help wondering if she was drinking or something. Why would she do such a thing?

I wonder if stars get so out of touch with people that after a while they are in their own isolated world. They do stupid things because they are not getting normal human feedback. Or something.

Internet justice is swift and terrible. Geesh.

ABC knew Roseanne was “insane” when they agreed to revive the show. (I don’t know what you mean by “insane,” but let’s just say Roseanne is Roseanne and has been Roseanne for more than 30 years — as a public figure, that is.)

They were ok with Roseanne. They were not ok with her supporting Trump.

Yes, that’s what I meant by “Roseanne is Roseanne.” ABC was cool with Roseanne being disgusting and vulgar so long as she didn’t support Trump.

Here’s an article that I posted here back on February 2017 about Roseanne.

“Wow! When did Roseanne Barr join the center-right?”

    http://ricochet.com/archives/wow-when-did-roseanne-barr-join-the-center-right/

“Her retweets include many pro-Trump websites, Israel websites (she is part Jewish), Donald Trump, Gavin McInnes, Sharia Watch UK, Paul Joseph Watson (editor-at-large of Infowars.com), Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Geert Wilders, The Washington Free Beacon, Larry Klayman, Daniel Pipes, James O’Keefe, The Drudge Report, Ann Coulter, Judicial Watch, Sean Davis from The Federalist, Sean Spicer, James Woods, Sarah Palin, infowars, Sean Hannity, PJMedia‏, Michelle Malkin, and Pamela Geller.”

Her tweet wasn’t all that bad, given what the left says about us.  Valerie Jarret is a dirtbag, and she deserves to be mocked and ridiculed, as well as any figure on the left.

Once the left decides to be civil, then everyone can be civil.  Until then, don’t drop your account.  Keep tweeting, Roseanne Barr . . .

@max Why is Roseanne an archetype of a “real American”?

I consider myself a real American. I also think what she wrote is not representative of the best and highest of what most Americans say they believe in, and is not deserving of defense just because she said it. In other words, free speech is limited by being a [choose your expletive].

Is it possible for both of the following to be true?

    1. Cultural elites – by which I assume you mean Progressives, though perhaps you would include anyone not supporting Donald Trump in that term – do have a condescending view toward many, many people, and exhibit it in many, many ways.
    2. What Roseanne tweeted was bad and her show’s cancellation is a consequence of that.

A small thought experiment: Say she tweeted the exact same thing about Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). Would her show be cancelled? No, it wouldn’t.

First of all, she came out in support of Trump (I guess that’s what you call it) before the show reaired, so yes they knew she was nuts, and they also knew about her statements concerning Trump.  If that was the problem why did they air the show?  Also, the way I understand it, she doesn’t get to say whatever she wants on the show.  They have a script, that is approved by ABC, and included stuff about Trump.  Again, if her support of Trump was a huge issue then why did they write it in the script, tape it, and air it?

    No kidding.

Since I don’t actually own a functioning TV, this was the first television show that I’ve watched since I used to watch House MD on hulu, and that went off the air in 2012.

Well, back to not caring about television again.

Oh, that’s right.  I also watching the Mark Steyn Show last year.  I think the Roseanne revival lasted about a week longer than that.

Conservatives learn that all good stuff must go away or come to an end, but for things to go away or come to an end, things have to start up and get going a bit first…

Maybe Fox can pick it up, but I doubt it.

    She was the show……

Agreed. They can’t do the show without her, and she can’t do the show without them.

Which is a shame, because a lot of people would want this to continue.

I wonder if they could work something out. Would require Valerie Jarrett’s support. Perhaps they actually add her and others to the show and deal with the issue semi-directly, with how people say hateful things that hurt others and ruin their own careers.

I disagree with the comments that say that ABC was wrong to hire her. I would also argue that she made a Tweet that came off as racist, not that she (necessarily) is a racist. I think we need to figure out how we can accept apologies and move on, and I think that’s true for people on all sides of the political spectrum.

Roseanne brilliantly built a show for the moment. Maybe she can do it again. I’m rooting for her.
