ABC Cancels Roseanne After Racist Tweet

If you’ve ever encountered Roseanne Barr on Twitter, you know she is a bit … off. She regularly shares insane musings, personal attacks, and conspiracy theories that would make Alex Jones think the chemtrails finally got her. Roseanne’s always been this way, regularly attracting attacks from the left, right, and center. (Remember the conservative reaction to her ugly rendition of the National Anthem?) On Tuesday, she stepped in it big time with a tweet so bad that ABC cancelled her hit sit-com reboot hours later.

What did she say this time? Earlier Tuesday morning, in a now-deleted Tweet, Roseanne took aim at former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, identifying her by her initials:

She later claimed it was a joke and apologized, but the internet is forever (as the above screen-cap shows). Racism can’t be deleted as easily as a tweet.

https://twitter.com/therealroseanne/status/1001471669641216005

Roseanne’s co-stars registered their disgust:

And in just a few hours, ABC pulled the plug on their biggest surprise hit.

Many Twitterers on the right claim that Roseanne was victimized by a politically correct mob just because she supports Donald Trump. If they fired her over Tweeting “I’m on the Trump train,” they’d have a point.

Instead, she was canned because she said a black woman was half-ape. Roseanne was fired for being a disgusting racist.

And, as a result of her idiotic idea to document her racism on Twitter, she got her entire cast and staff fired along with her.

For Roseanne’s part, she now says she’s quitting Twitter. Probably should have done that last night.

Because she said nice things about POTUS and people now support her because of that.

Which people? Those “millions” mentioned earlier?

I mean, why worry about whether lefties will use this incident as a broad-brush smear against the President’s supporters when alleged conservatives — supposedly on our side — are doing it themselves.

That is the crux of it.  I was just enjoying her show.

It really doesn’t matter the politics anymore, I thought we believed in turning the channel.

But I do think OJ did it.

Technically speaking, I believe the humans are apes, according to current scientific classification (Hominoidea). According to Wikipedia: “In traditional and non-scientific use, the term ‘ape’ excludes humans, and is thus not equivalent to the scientific taxon Hominoidea.” This does not excuse Roseanne, as her “Planet of the Apes” reference makes it clear that she was referring to chimps, gorillas, and orangutans.

Well technically speaking, she referred to fictional characters in a science fiction movie that (spoiler alert) belong to a race of intelligent beings that evolved from apes and are portrayed as being every bit as smart and civilized as humans.

    Who has been defending her?

Since I didn’t know VJ is black, it’s not a huge leap that Rosanne had no idea either.

    Is that a defense?

The alternative is to think that Rosanne decided to make a ridiculously racist tweet, having no illusions that the mob would come after her. Her post tweets back me up, that she was clueless and rude – but not racist

She may or not be racist  But having asked for examples of past behavior – and being provided none – I’m going with stupid and rude

Roughly sixty-three million people voted for Trump and did so for a variety of reasons, most of which were the same reasons you vote for someone.

I don’t have much patience with white-people-are-the-victims-now stuff now either, both because announcing victimhood is inherently a position of weakness and because in the grand scheme of things the deck is stacked against black people far more than it is stacked against white people.

Nevertheless, the government is currently stacking the deck against white people. Eradicating old popular racism is a good thing; it means we are better human beings. Enforcing new racism through legislation is a bad thing; it erodes the rule of law.

Yep. Donald Trump’s schtick was all about how white ppl are victims. And he did such a thorough con job that you parroted his central premise, adding your own reasons, while claiming you don’t have any patience for it.

Kinda hard to for me to parrot Trump when that’s been my position long before Trump ran for office.

Indeed, conservatives opposed Affirmative Action long before Trump.

I want to go back to this. Why not give her the benefit of the doubt? As mentioned earlier, no one can see into her heart, so she’s not getting punished for being racist. She’s getting punished for making a comment which could be perceived as racist. Some people here and outside Ricochet have claimed she has a history of racism, but I’ve yet to see an example.

If we continue on this path, there’s no hope for us.

The term “white privilege” burst upon the scene fairly recently and is now being taken as a fact; people like Jordan Peterson are immediately called to defend their “privilege” and their opinions are discounted.

How is that not racism? He is literally being treated differently because of his skin color.

Real racism (like the racism of low expectations) is being ignored while the world has a melt down about Roseanne.

And one thing about the meltdown not mentioned often – many on the Left who’ re melting down right now  had no concept of there being a Valerie Jarrett until Roseanne made her remark.

In other words, prime territory for Whataboutism. Nobody’s immune to it, but who gives a [expletive] about Joy Reid in this context.

    Why not?

Because I don’t give [expletive] about Joy Reid in any context.

Then why do you give [expletive] about Roseanne Barr?

Because I’m bored and there’s a big thread about her.

Oh, and I’m not liking some of what I’m reading there.

And I want to see how many “likes” my suggestion to replace her with Roseanne Cash gets. I still think it has legs.

Whataboutism. It’s the term we use when we don’t want to confront hypocrisy.

It’s also the term we use when someone changes the subject.

So I guess whataboutism is the new “whatever.” Which millions of us who were parents at the time learned from our teenagers back in the Nineties.

Of course us white people who might be victims don’t complain and whine half as much about our situation as the Elite of both Parties whine when a single necessary banking regulation is put into place, or a single necessary environmental protection is upheld. So there’s that.
