Am I a Cuck?

Toby and James in happier, more COVID-casual times

My good friend James Delingpole and I have had a few disagreements over the last couple of weeks on London Calling. In my current Spectator column I talk about the dynamics of our “special relationship:

‘You’re a cuck, Tobes, an absolute cuck.’ My friend James Delingpole was furious. ‘Honestly, I thought I could depend on you of all people, but you’ve surrendered, just like every other right-wing commentator I know. I can’t begin to describe how disappointing this is. I would have expected it from some — Dan Hannan, Jonah Goldberg, the editors of the National Review — all bloody cucks, the lot of them. But not you, Tobes. I’m alone in the foxhole.’

This outburst would have been hard to listen to under normal circumstances, but it occurred on air during our weekly podcast on Ricochet. Needless to say, we were discussing the presidential election and James is 100 percent convinced that Donald Trump was the victim of a massive electoral fraud. He’s reached the final stage of the five stages of grief — and I’m not talking about Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s stages, but those of die-hard Trumpers: denial, anger, paranoia, grievance and incandescent rage.

I dont like the word ‘cuck’. Ignorant or foolish could be a better word.

I dont know how your experience with elections is. But the fact is in multiple counties, where Biden out performed incredibly, their was no watching of the ballot process and scrutineers were prevented from watching the vote.

My condo board election was more secure than the USA election.

Those are the facts. I am in the foxhole with James Dellingpole so hes not alone.

My experience is that most of the commentariat is just ignorant of elections work, having only observed and reported on other peoples work. Those who actually know what there talking about are not in the conversation.

As a Canadian talking to a lot of Americans lately, its like talking to people with Stockholm syndrome.

Well there was cheating and it seems like it all goes one way. Was there enough cheating to throw the electoral college though?

I have to say, if James were an American I would probably have stopped listening to him a long time ago. He manages to swaddle his nastiness in humor in a way that’s so irreducibly British it’s hard to describe.

Toby Young: Dan Hannan, Jonah Goldberg, the editors of the National Review

If so, I’d say you’re a cuck in good company.

    Uh.

    What?

So it’s okay, even good, to be a shyster as long as you’re with other shysters?

Being a shyster is bad, and being a shyster in a group with other shysters does not make it better.

So I think the implication here is that if the term is being applied to that set of entities, all of whom have been champions of conservative thought, then the term essentially has no meaning.  It’s the same way we respond, typically, when someone on the Left throws around the racist canard.  National Review has called balls and strikes on Trump and to label them as “shysters” shows the degree to which many in the Trumpist movement are completely incapable of tolerating any dissent from orthodoxy.

    Toby,

London Calling is far and away my favorite podcast precisely because of the banter between you and James.  It appeared to me, initially, that it was merely a familiarization between good friends similar to how almost all guys will refer to each other as a-holes, s-heads, and so forth.  But recently it’s taken on a harder tone and I don’t appreciate it coming from James that way especially after all the work you have done, and are continuing to do, with your website and the Free Speech Union.  I think James would be far better served by channeling some of his apparent “energy” into doing something productive instead calling you names on the podcast.

I was just making a comparison, not accusing National Review or anyone else of being shysters.

Being a bad person does not become a good thing just because you’ve joined with other bad people.

And being a person with silly ideas is not a good thing because of associating with other people who also have silly ideas.

If someone told me I was in good company because I thought the same as Jonah Goldberg etc, I would not be pleased.

@TobyYoung, if you notice this tag, you are not a cuck so much as uninformed.

Please check https://ricochet.com/822533/keeping-track-of-election-fraud/# and take note of those claims still standing which have numbers.

Take special note of the claims still standing that have survived some level of confirmation, fact-checking, or critical scrutiny.

The latter claims are enough to flip two swing states with illegal votes for Biden.

Altogether (including the numbers from Mr. Strensrom in Pennsylvania), these claims involve illegal votes exceeding the Biden victory in five swing states.

(And these numbers do not involve any centralized conspiracy or anything electronic. Just old-fashioned voting when you’re not supposed to, stuffing ballot-boxes, mailing fake votes, etc.  Very traditional stuff.)

    What’s a cuck?

Let’s see if this is delicate enough. Cuck comes from cuckhold, which is a male who derives pleasure from watching his wife be taken by another male.

Edit: I should add that in general slang it’s come to mean a weak male, one easily dominated by others.

sorry I asked – add that to the dictionary of the  – well – you fill in the rest……

Sorry to have to define it. It’s creepy when some of these foul slang terms enter common usage.

Except one can be absurd and obscene at the same time. It is not a duality. (But it might be a choice.)
