Run, Martha, Run!
Martha,
Since your latest fundraising mailer invites me to first name you, and since you keep going back your retired military rank, let’s talk retired colonel to retired colonel. I wrote to you in June by your official email, USPS, and here, where your staff should certainly be scanning for mentions. Now I am writing via your campaign, and documenting the communication publicly so any real media and Republican Party staff can note the issue and engage your campaign. Time is extremely short, but a ground attack pilot should be able to get inside the DNC OODA loop.
Here is what I got and what I sent back to your campaign:
11 July 2020
Martha,
You lost in 2018. Now you are losing in 2020. Apparently you failed to learn. You can win if you go back to the courage of Major McSally, fighting the old boys for the Constitution and servicewomen.
If you are too scared or insecure to debate and work for our votes in the primary, you are doomed in November. If you are not actually throwing the November election to Mark Kelly and trying to throw Arizona to Biden, you will work now for my primary vote. Get on TV and livestreams with your primary opponent. Show me and “R” voters respect.

How can such a seemingly competent person be such a terrible campaigner?
Who is advising her? Maybe she needs a new crew?
Well, after she lost to someone adorned in a pink tu-tu, that should have been a message to clean house. But I just don’t know enough about Arizona politics.
Clifford, in what way did McSally fight the old boys for the Constitution?
I’m so sorry that she’s not stepping up. What could be holding her back?
He’s trying to actually encourage her to fight for her seat. A little puffery is allowable.
I think that he’s referring to some court case that McSally brought, but I’m not sure.
Run away!
The pink tu-tu has voted better than the last two GOP Senators from AZ. AZ, why are your Senators so crappy?!
I know Martha slightly and I know she is good in small groups. I do not understand why she did not debate in 2018 and it cost her the election, in my opinion. This year, she seems to be doing slightly better but not good enough. The other morning I listened to Daniel Mc Carthy on the radio and am going to research him a bit. Anybody know any more about him?
I live in AZ. Her office is absolutely unresponsive…to phone messages, to emails, to snail mail. I’ve never seen anything like it. I lived in MA in the 1980s. I was a registered Republican. Senator Kennedy’s staff would always have open phone lines. You could call up and actually talk to a person. His office would send responsive letters even when the Senator disagreed with me.
I also lived in MA in the 1980s and had the same experience. Kennedy’s staff was responsive to everyone. Kerry’s on the other hand . . . Now in AZ and had the same bad experience with McSally. I wonder if she’s just given up.
When I try to research McCarthy, I get stuff like this from the MSN and AZ Republic.

Sounds pro Kelley to me.
McCarthy owns the Phoenix-based Makeup Eraser company and has previously said he hasn’t taken any government loans. Records show that two of his businesses have received two Small Business Administration awards of more than $1.5 million.
Of the PPP loans, McCarthy said he is a “very shrewd” business owner.
“I have a fiduciary duty to my employees and my shareholders,” he told The Arizona Republic on Tuesday. “The reality of it is my job is to work within the parameters, I have to make sure I protect my shareholders and my employees.”
I know nothing about his record or business. The PPP loans were for employees.
The Republic will not allow me to use my ad blocker so I don’t read their stuff. It sounds like they are about as left as the local Tucson “Red Star.” At least the Red Star has local news about weather.
She’s too stupid to be trusted with public office.

I actually followed her career as a major and young lieutenant colonel. The old boys in the Air Force and Pentagon forced American service women to submit to Sharia law in Saudi Arabia, wearing the black sack and being driven by male peers or subordinates who were to act like Saudi husbands. The State Department had no such policy, by the way. This was a disgusting echo of the older old white boys using the placement of military bases in segregationist states, with Confederate generals names, to impose Jim Crow on black servicemen and their families. It was all about institutional resistance to civilian control, which had ordered racial integration and then sex integration.
Major Martha McSally took the huge career risk of working inside the chain of command all the way to SECDEF and then taking the SECDEF to court to force him and the old boys in military suits to stop their unconstitutional policy. In the end Congress ordered the DOD to cease even “asking” women to submit.
Yes, this is why I like her but am disappointed in her two Senate races. I tried to get my daughter to volunteer in her House races before I was a full time resident. She was a better fit for CD 2.
Ducey made a mistake in appointing her to fill McCain’s seat. He had the evidence of how poor a campaigner she was in the 2018 race and better alternatives available. Now she is likely to pull off the unprecedented trick of turning 2 R Senate seats to D in two years.
I fear this, which is why I write to her and post it here as well. She needs a positive intervention. There is no reason she cannot turn this around immediately.
I’m still mulling McCarthy.
The Chair of the Arizona Republican Committee is someone named Kelli Ward. There are three Vice Chairs, so presumably someone should be checking in on the Senator.
One Terry Nelson is running her campaign.
I hope my distant relatives in ‘Zona appreciate this, but I doubt it.
I know that Kelli Ward was the competition for Martha of the 2018 Senate nomination. I still do not know much of Arizona politics but had heard that Ward might not be a great candidate. I’ve been involved in California politics for 40 years until the Democrats went crazy. Still learning about AZ.
McSally is simply a poor campaigner. I don’t see it getting better. Ward wasn’t a particularly good candidate either. I thought Jon Kyl did well as a Senator and was sad when he stepped down/didn’t run for re-election.
Of course now I’ve left the Republican party so my input is unimportant.
