Donald Trump Indicted by Manhattan Grand Jury

The story is here.

There is an old saying which goes something like this: Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it.

I have made my opinion clear when this was just a potential indictment. Now that the loons have made the leap the best I can do is quote one of their oiliest, sleaziest “leaders”, Schumer, and observe that they just may reap more whirlwind than they could ever imagine.

Elon Musk said this would assure a Trump Presidency II. I’m inclined to believe that may well be the case.

This is an abject disgrace.

There’s a 3D-chess theory in circulation that the Left now fears DeSantis more than Trump, so they pushed this now to help Trump win the nomination b/c they think he’ll be tarnished and easier to beat in the general.

Not sure I buy it but it’s interesting.

If Donald Trump is a ham sandwich, does that mean Ivanka and Jared can’t go near him?

Well, if the claims are correct, that the statute of limitations has run out, the next move should see a court quashing the indictment. But as someone commented before, this is Trump: the S of L does not apply to him.  Hate to become that cynical but the mounting evidence of its possibly being true borders on overwhelming.

At the same time, it is my understanding that every prosecutor is bound under the ethics rules not to bring charges that the prosecutor cannot in good faith base in both provable fact and a clear reading of the law. So, maybe Bragg ends up censured or disbarred.

I remember the DA in the phony Duke lacrosse case, Mike Nifong, who was disbarred and jailed for a day for contempt of court, in his handling of the phony case.

    [ed. to correct Nifong info]

Not a single story that I have seen (And I have looked) says what he has been indicted for. What criminal statute is he alleged to have violated?

That’s b/c no one knows yet:

“This evening we contacted Mr. Trump’s attorney to coordinate his surrender to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment, which remains under seal,” District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

To paraphrase Nancy, we have to arraign Trump to find out what’s in it.

Trump put the money paid to Stormy via a law firm as a “legal expense” and not a “campaign expense”.  This misattribution is considered an intentional effort to deceive federal campaign finance accounting law.   In NY, having false paperwork to avoid a federal law is a felony.  That’s it.    Trump has an affirmative defense in that is established law that celebrities can take legal expenses to pay off claims.

He funded much of his campaign in the beginning out of his own pocket.

The Supreme Court in New York is the name for the basic trial court of general jurisdiction. What other states called their Supreme Court is called the Court of Appeals in NY. So the indictment in NY goes to a Supreme Court for trial.

I’m reading a lot of comments online to the effect of “Well, that settles it. Trump has my vote.” Or “I was planning to vote for DeSantis, but screw it. Now I’m voting for Trump.” (If you’re on Facebook, read the comments under Scott Walker’s post. )

I’m not as confident as some that this will backfire on Democrats. Mainly because every time I’ve been told that “this time Democrats have gone too far” . . . they just go farther.

How can it backfire when Democrats control every lever of influence in the country? By tomorrow evening, every suburban white woman will be applauding this decision, because the media they consume will convince them that Trump is a criminal. They’ll nod along like bobbleheads, even though they haven’t got a clue what it’s about.

If nothing else, this will be a clarifying moment for the right. We’ll see which “Republicans” stay silent or tacitly approve of this. We cannot afford to keep such people in the tent.

Eh, it’s all just a setup for 2024, you see.  Trump gets 100 million votes, but Biden gets 400 million votes and Gary says that checks out okay, Biden obviously got all the disaffected McCain voters who’ve died over the past 50 years…

Why should anything be sealed? Why should anyone “surrender themselves” without knowing the specific charges? Because they want the days of uncertainty so they can plant the right seeds or poison the right wells, whichever metaphor you you prefer. Yes “they”.

The State of Florida will not comply with any request for extradition assistance. In an official statement, the Governor dismissed the indictment as a political act.

Meanwhile, the D’s just gave the heave-ho to the one precedent that might have kept Biden out of the slammer.

Seems kinda’ upside-down that you can appeal to a higher court than the “supreme” court.
