‘I Don’t Know, To Be Clear’: Biden’s Painful Press Conference

The President’s first press conference has just concluded. Joe Biden mumbling and stumbling his way through an hour of sympathetic softballs proved, once again, that he is not up to the job. He hasn’t “lost a step,” he’s lost the whole staircase. Even his media boosters couldn’t maintain the charade.

Biden strained to keep up with his scripted briefing document, calling one hand-selected reporter at a time. Each question was a mild critique from the far left. (Needless to say, Fox News’s Peter Doocy was not called upon.) Each answer was a few minutes of rambling followed by a word-for-word dry-read of the White House talking points.

Caleb Hull provided representative clips:

This embarrassing display occurred days after Biden’s repeated collapses trying to board Air Force One, and China publicly ridiculed his administration for its self-loathing weakness at the Alaska summit. No doubt, our enemies laughed their way through the presser as Americans cringed.

Meanwhile, at a nearby baseball field, Kamala Harris was warming up in the bullpen.

I just read Margot Cleveland’s article about Governor Noem caving on the transsexual ban in women’s sports.  Really bad:

    https://thefederalist.com/2021/03/26/the-worst-thing-about-kristi-noems-sports-capitulation-is-her-lies/

It’s too bad, really.  I just read her interview for Amercia’s First Freedom magazine (an NRA publication), and it was really great.  However, we can’t have someone who’ll only protect one freedom . . .

If you’ll only support someone who agrees with 100% of your positions you’re going to wait a long time for that one to come along.

Someone who claims to resist being bullied by the NCAA by being bullied by the NCAA is not worthy of support.

I never said that.  In fact, I’ve often said our (conservatives) problem is many of us are single issue voters (abortion, guns, taxes, etc.) and tend to not vote for candidates who are otherwise perfectly acceptable.  I still like Noem, but caving to big business is a red flag.  Government is supposed to exist to protect our rights, not sacrifice them for economic reasons . . .

I would put it a bit differently.  Reagan was happy, optimistic and inclusive.  Trump is none of that.  Reagan had a sign on his desk that said that there were no limits to what one could do if they weren’t interested in getting the credit.  Trump is all about getting credit for himself.

Tone matters.  Decency matters.  Compassion matters.  Trump is no Ronald Reagan.

You know, Gary, you simply will not acknowledge that times have changed. Twitter didn’t — Hell, the internet — didn’t exist in 1980. Reagan’s “happy, optimistic, and inclusive” pitch wouldn’t work today. He’d be ripped to shreds unless he fought back and then what happens to “happy” and “inclusive”?

Whatever else one can say about Trump, he was optimistic about the future, unlike Obama and Biden. They whined about the inevitable decline while Trump yelled “We can Make America Great Again”. And he was doing it in spite of people like you  and the rest of the NeverTrumpers.

Still think Biden was the right choice? Never mind. I know your answer.

I expect his excuse would be “Biden was not the right choice, but Trump was definitely the wrong choice.”

Just a shame the Dims didn’t nominate someone more to Gary’s liking.

This is the problem. There is no limiting principle with Democrats. Nobody is going to stop at a Scoop Jackson level. Most people don’t even know what I’m talking about. They became overt / ridiculous / (whatever you want to call it) about it with Obamacare and the cultural issues around that time. For various political advantages they want massive more or less unregulated immigration. They don’t really care about the working class anymore, so they aren’t limited by that. It’s the party of the elites, the government employed, and the really poor. Supposedly, when you include transfer payments and welfare, that is the only thing that makes society not unfair now. I would say that structure encourages no limiting principle.

The limiting principal on the right is anarchism. There is a real limiting principle.

The GOP really wasn’t ever very principled like Gary has in his head.  Maybe before Nixon and during Reagan and that’s it. When they passed Medicare Part D to finish off Iraq, that was the last chance to pretend otherwise.

Then throw in all of the institutions.

You have to recognize the actual history and all of the structural issues today.

There is nothing good about empowering Democrats. I suppose occasionally at the local level it isn’t a big disaster.

The time to think like Gary is after the Federal Reserve can’t print any more money. Maybe.

DHS has 15,000 children in custody right now. Two months.

From what I can tell, border patrol has 400 “getaways” every single day.  That’s where they are putting the drug runners.  They aren’t even processing the ones they capture, and then they just dump them on communities.

The government is literally spending $2 billion to not finish the wall. That is the way the contracts work. That is what Joe Biden did.

I’m pretty sure I heard Tom Homan say that ice has been 90% restricted on who they arrest now. 90% change in who they are qualifying for arrest.

The guy’s solutions tend to be more statist, and this is a very difficult, dense conversation to listen to, but the issues are laid out very well much like Steve Bannon.

This is another good one. He’s pretty forceful about how MMT is going to enable Democrats to keep pushing everything left. I think he invokes the word communism a couple times, and this isn’t some kook trying to get attention.
