Good for Nick Sandmann

I think that the media’s treatment of Nick Sandmann and the Convington Catholic kids was one of the worst things of the last four years. Sandmann was right to sue for defamation, and I hope that he got millions in his settlements. I am also very glad that he shows more courage and maturity than a lot of people by speaking the truth and calling out craziness.

I don’t know what happened to Lin Wood. He was an accomplished and respected attorney. I hope that any friends and family he has are checking on him and trying to get him help, because something is seriously wrong with the man.

Time to turn down the heat, guys. Just because someone is unconvinced that the election was stolen from Trump does not make them a member of the Chinese Communist Party or a Nazi collaborator.

I don’t think that assertion has been made. There are some who seem almost eager to deny the fraud. Some of those were prior “Orange man bad” members.

I don’t care if someone eagerly or reluctantly concludes that Biden won the election, or if they are certain that Trump won it.  The standard for civility is the same for everyone.

We’ve been civil for a long time.  They don’t reciprocate.  At some point, unilateral civility turns into being a sucker.

I figured it would be nice to just give the message in the comments instead of doing the official redaction thing.  But if people aren’t going to play nice, OK.  We can redact, and if that doesn’t solve the problem we can suspend.

One reason I quit Ricochet several years ago was when I was suspended for several days for the term “TDS.”  Molon Labe.

I quit for over a year primarily because of one member and the poor management response.

Now we’re being warned to “play nice” regarding this same member or be suspended.

My “social score” needs recharging, so I’ll say no more. :)

So the accusation apparently is that we are always on Gary’s side?  We have suspended him on multiple occasions.

That is true, and I have learned (slowly) to express myself more appropriately, and that there are times when I need to take a walk before I comment.  When my blood is up, it is time to push back from the keyboard.  There are a whole bunch of derisive words and phrases that I no longer use, some after receiving a DM from a mod, and some after being redacted.  I hope to never, ever be redacted again, let alone be suspended.

I also learned something last night.  If something is urgent, it may be better to let someone else start the post on it.  For example, last night I filed a post about Trump’s phone call, and then deleted it a couple of minutes later before anyone else had commented on it, when I was concerned that it was too adversarial, and just not effective.  After I went to bed, James Lileks filed a much more effective post which was less adversarial, which I commented on after I woke up.  https://ricochet.com/857549/the-georgia-tape/

When I think of Lin Wood and all the crazy things he has been tweeting, I keep coming back to Andrew Kavan who is if anything marvelously even-handed in his punditry.  Klaven spoke of the Qanon conspiracy, as well as I can remember it, by essentially quoting wikipedia (as a member of the Press did to Kayleigh McEnany) to describe it:

“…a disproven and discredited far-right conspiracy theory alleging that a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against US president Donald Trump, who is fighting the cabal… No part of the conspiracy claim is based in fact. QAnon supporters have accused many liberal Hollywood actors, Democratic politicians, and high-ranking government officials of being members of the cabal.  They have also claimed that Trump [is] exposing the sex trafficking ring and preventing a coup d’état by Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and George Soros.

But!, Klavan goes on to say: (1) the American people know that Jeffrey Epstein actually did run an international pedophile ring, and enjoyed the company of the world’s most powerful men, including Prince Andrew; that the MeToo movement has been exposed Hollywood’s fostering of sexual assaults by people at the top of the industry, and people close to the Clintons and other government leaders; that (2) the Media have known about Epstein’s pedophile ring and hidden the information and blocked broadcasting reports of it; and that (3) a major conspiracy of government agencies exists obstructing and subverting Trump’s administration and trying to prevent President Trump from finishing his term.

Klavan then displays his great even-handedness and explains it is reasonable that when the American people are aware of these things, that they would fabricate a reason to explain it all, and so therefore “QAnon” takes root.

Klavan actually makes the case that Qanon is real but then quashes that conclusion, because, presumably, it just can’t be.

Personally I have believed that Qanon is all fake, an internet scam to make money; except for recently, because when the Press attacks something as being too outlandish to be so, it is probably so.

Lin Wood may be crazy, but then again so have Sydney Powell and President Trump and Nick Sandmann been painted that way by the Press as well.

That’s all true.  And the Press has no shame when it comes to painting people that way. For my own part, though, I’m more likely to make a spirited defense, in the face of media tarring and feathering campaigns when the person who’s the target comports himself or herself with a semblance of dignity and doesn’t go off the deep end with tweets that could credibly be viewed as unhinged and threatening. I reserve the freedom to make that sort of distinction when it comes to deciding for myself, and it sure is helpful if the other party isn’t acting like a deranged loon.

Remember when Michael Avenatti was claiming witnesses to Kavanaugh gang rapes? Remember how we felt about him? He was a liar; he was evil scum.

Same with Lin Wood, who also tries to spread foul lies. I don’t look for reasons why his particular form of lying BS is motivated by…well, in truth, I don’t care what motivates him.

    Yes.

Though Gary must be so happy today! He got rid of Trump and the Democrats control everything. Just like he said he wanted back in 2018. Finally got his wish.

    Good for Gary.
