GOP senators denied Obama a seat on the high court. They’ll deliver for Trump.

That story is from May.  They might sing a different tune now.

A bunch are certain that Trump and McConnell will rush through a nomination (they won’t – having a SC seat up for grabs will motivate a lot of Never Trumpers to hold their noses and vote).

The main thing is, I expect to hear a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth over “The Biden Rule,” but it doesn’t mean “no Supreme Court nominations in an election year.” It means “no Supreme Court nominations in an election year WHEN THE SENATE IS CONTROLLED BY THE OPPOSITION PARTY FROM THE PRESIDENT.” That was the case for Merrick Garland, it is NOT the case NOW.

We’re close enough to the election that it’s a better move to wait, especially since it will make the Democrats even crazier than they normally are.

Yes, even under the Biden Rule, Trump is well within his (and our) rights to nominate a successor. But for all his supposed boorishness, I suspect he’ll wait. And even if Biden (Harris) should win, if the Senate remains in Republican control it wouldn’t be that far off for “lame duck” Trump to make a nomination anyway.

I don’t think Trump will wait one minute. Watch for an announcement next week.

Yeah, the lefties are all losing their minds – at least more than normal – on social media.

“No. No. No.” is trending on Twitter.

Lots of them are certain that “we’re totally screwed now.”

Generally, they’re acting like RBG was their favorite grandmother, when almost none of them would have recognized her if they saw her on the street.

They can’t hold it up. There is no guarantee they would retain both Senate and White House. If they blow this, that will be the McConnell legacy, the last bad move.

And Mittens Romney also cannot be trusted.

The next few days are going to be interesting.

I have a feeling mitt Romney will be another John McCain, a person who puts his personal animosity for Trump ahead of what’s good for the country.

    Oh my …………..

these weeks leading up to the election are going to be extremely interesting. I hope Trump and Mitch McConnell get the supreme court nominee on the bench before the election.

They must. Unless I heard wrong, one Dem Senate candidate is filling a vacancy so would be seated immediately.

I guess.  But there are people maybe on the edge who might decide to vote against Trump, if they do a nomination now.

    Current Senate: 51 Republicans / 49 Democrats

Republican Senators likely to abstain from voting for a nominee prior to the outcome of the election:

    Murkowski

    Collins

    Romney

    Grassley

If the election result is contested and goes up to the Supreme Court, then it’s a possible deadlock. Chief Justice Roberts can go either way…but definitely not the conservative we assumed he was when W. nominated him.

They don’t have to vote in the affirmative. Murkowski, Collins, and Romney would be happy not to accommodate POTUS and would proudly wear whatever “bad guy” title McConnell brands them with. This is where we’re at.

    Not exactly.

Scalia was a Right-side seat.  Replacing him with an Obama/Clinton appointment changes the nature of the court.

RBG is a left-side seat.  If the seat is held open until after the election and Biden wins, she’s replaced with another left-winger.  Not optimal from our point of view, but not as significant.

Although obviously we would be missing the chance to replace a left-wing seat with a (hopefully/potentially) right-wing seat.

If the GOP goes ahead and starts to confirm a nominee this fall, Washington DC will have to go under martial law. The Left is going to lose their minds over this. I’m sure that there will paranoiac theories suggesting that she was murdered; but would Dem politicians buy into them?

Pffft. Every whiff of civil disorder is now on the Dem ledger, to their utter surprise! Who knew that a corrupt press could only gaslight an Internet world for so long without creating a backlash. None of them studied that all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time guy! They just broke up the statues and threw the pieces at the cops. If only they weren’t blistering icons of vile and stupid, like AOC.

If you don’t nominate, that probably plays well with the swing voters, but then part of your base might stay home. Or possibly not, maybe you motivate a part of the base that hasn’t been energetic on behalf of Trump.

On the other hand, you nominate, then there is a highly-motivated left, and the nominee (and his or her baggage) is essentially part of the ballot.

Might be a poison pill. We might fill this seat only to lose everything else.
