The Truth About the Jacob Blake Shooting

New evidence presented in the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha Police officer suggests that not only was that shooting totally lawful and justified, but it may also have saved several lives. Blake was armed with a knife, lunging for what officers reasonably believed was another weapon, and potentially attempting to steal his ex-girlfriend’s car and abduct their children.

“The lawyers for Mr. Blake, among others, have continued to provide false and misleading ‘facts’ to the public, in what can only be considered a ploy for attention and sympathy,” said Kenosha Professional Police Association attorney Brendan Matthews. “Unfortunately, even the incident update from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI)–the agency charged with investigating the incident independently–is riddled with incomplete information, and omits important details that would help to paint a more complete picture of the incident.”

DCI on Wednesday confirmed that “Kenosha Police Department officers were dispatched” to Blake’s ex-girlfriend’s home after she said Blake “was present and was not supposed to be on the premises.” Officers tried to arrest Blake and even “deployed a taser to attempt to stop Mr. Blake, however, the taser was not successful in stopping” him. Blake then walked around what was presumed to be his SUV and when he “leaned forward” into it, an officer shot him seven times.

“During the investigation following the initial incident, Mr. Blake admitted that he had a knife in his possession,” DCI continued. “DCI agents recovered a knife from the driver’s side floorboard of Mr. Blake’s vehicle.”

DCI, which is the agency tasked with investigating the incident, refused to release any further details.

911 dispatch audio, however, reveals that Blake had stolen his ex-girlfriend’s keys with the obvious intent of stealing her SUV. This would not be the first time. In May, he allegedly stole the same vehicle as well as the woman’s ATM card before making two fraudulent $500 withdrawals.

According to a criminal complaint against Blake, he broke into her home, surprised her as she lay in a bed next to their young son, and told her “I want my s***.” As she “lay there, on her back, the defendant, suddenly and without warning, reached his hand between her legs, penetrated her vaginally with a finger, pulled it out and sniffed it, and said, ‘Smells like you’ve been with other men.'”

Blake faces charges of third-degree sexual assault, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct, all with domestic abuse modifiers. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of more than a decade in prison.

“Officers were aware of Mr. Blake’s open warrant for felony sexual assault before they arrived on the scene,” Matthews said in a statement released on behalf of the Kenosha Professional Police Officers Association.

In other words, they were aware that a violent sexual assault suspect was again tormenting his alleged victim. Making matters worse, he was armed with a knife.

“The officers did not see the knife initially,” Matthews explained. “The officers first saw him holding the knife while they were on the passenger side of the vehicle. The ‘main’ video circulating on the internet shows Mr. Blake with the knife in his left hand when he rounds the front of the car.”

The knife is clearly visible at exactly seven seconds into the video, and officers can be heard yelling “Drop the knife!”

The Kenosha Professional Police Association notes that before the video started, Blake was so violent with officers (even putting one “in a headlock), that they were forced to tase him twice.

“The taser did not incapacitate Mr. Blake,” Matthews said, so “a second taser (from a different officer than had deployed the initial taser) was then deployed on Mr. Blake. It did not appear to have any impact on him.”

A second video published by the Daily Mail shows the aftermath of this encounter.

At that point, Blake pulled out his knife and officers immediately drew their firearms.

“The officers issued repeated commands for Mr. Blake to drop the knife,” Matthews said. “He did not comply.”

Instead, he forcefully walked around the SUV with an obvious intent to escalate the situation further. Since this was not his vehicle and three children were inside, it is entirely possible that he was attempting to kidnap them, to use the vehicle as a weapon and run the officers over, or to retrieve another weapon from inside.

When Blake opened the door and made a sudden lunge inside as if to reach for another weapon, an officer fired seven times–enough to, as he was trained, stop the threat Blake posed to him, the other officers, and the children in the vehicle.

“As the uncontested facts above demonstrate, the officers involved gave Mr. Blake numerous opportunities to comply,” Matthews explained. “He chose not to. None of the officers involved wished for things to transpire the way it did. It is my hope that truth and transparency will help begin and aid in the healing process.”

    Shocking. D bag was a D bag.

Now every one of those Democratic politicians ( and I mean you Slo Joe) who went on about the innocent black man shot by the police need to beg for forgiveness of the police nationwide and the people of Kenosha who suffered looting and mayhem because of the false narrative that was trumpeted.

    Curious,

Of all of the new information, I find the fact that they tasered him twice and it had no effect the most interesting. Obviously, he was on a drug of some kind. They have their weapons drawn and are screaming at him to stop. They can’t physically get hold of him because he has the knife (a vicious curved blade affair designed to do maximum damage). He is going straight for the car. Either he will be getting another weapon and/or trying to escape in the car kidnapping the children in the back. They must stop him and they have already tried every other way.

This isn’t the fault of the police but of the crazed human being that they are forced to stop.

I don’t see a good way out of this sort of dilemma. The lies go out immediately, while the authorities have to investigate before they can release any information.  By that time, people have been killed and buildings looted and burned.

In addition, the lies have been repeated so often that they’ve become the accepted truth.  Journalists, pundits, and politicians who, like Biden, shot their mouths off before any facts were known, have a vested interest in keeping the lies alive in order to protect their own credibility.

    Richard,

Every single thing you say here is true. This is the result of a news media that accepted the premise that the facts don’t matter only the narrative matters, a long time ago. However, this could be part of the Democrat’s undoing.

You are right that they are locked into their position and will double down. Trump will pound away at them as the party that endorses the rioters. The truth is already leaking out. This will further energize our base. Very importantly, this puts another group that might have voted Democrat in play. Women hate this kind of violence. They know well that these loonies attack anyone and everyone. Women want to be protected by the police and not left to a mob that is completely criminal. At Shabbos, a very elegant looking NY lady was sitting close by. She relayed the fact that her friend who lived in a major Manhattan building was attacked as she walked out the front door. She was knocked to the ground hit and kicked and then the perp stole her purse and ran. This was in daylight. My lady sitting next to me explained that there are no police on the street anymore and they are terrified.

Kamala Harris stupidly endorsing the rioters will put an end to the Democrat lock on the woman’s vote. Trump could easily get a majority of women voting.

I expect any day now to see proposals for a new law requiring police officers to allow a suspect to fire the first shot before the officer may legally draw his weapon.

I have seen “news” reports stating that the suspect was shot in front of his children; not mentioning that they just happened to be in the the vehicle he was attempting to steal.

Agree James,  I was thinking the same thing on the drug theory.  Since it would still be in his blood system when they took him to the hospital, it will come out in the end, if our beliefs are correct.  FYI  My money is on the table for those wanting to bet otherwise.

Funny you say that, two Chicago Police Officers were shot this weekend during a traffic stop.

    https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2020/8/30/21407345/chicago-police-officers-suspect-shot-homan-square-west-side-polk-spaulding

The suspect in the traffic stop was subsequently shot by the same CPD officers, and I thought to myself if these cops had not been shot first before shooting the criminal suspect shot them, Antifa and BLM would have been all over “protesting” this incident.

So, to one up your satirical hypothetical, in order to avoid an international uprising of violent protest, looting, and arson, the cops are now required to get shot first before they can shoot at the criminal shooter.

It is not a good thing that many people, including Democratic politicians, leaped to conclusions in the absence of facts.  We should not do the same thing.  A couple of examples:

One of the last things my stepfather said before he died was “just don’t add to the confusion.”

    Sigh.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is overseeing the investigation into the shooting of Jacob Blake. His office has come under fire for releasing limited details about the shooting.

“I absolutely understand why people are skeptical,” Kaul told NPR. “We have a history of systemic racism, and our criminal justice system is part of that. What I can tell you is that I am personally committed to making sure that this investigation is conducted vigorously and that we’re pursuing justice and following the facts where they lead.”

CNN and other disinformation outlets were initially pushing the “unarmed” lie and succeeded at getting it into circulation. More recent disinformation media coverage omits “unarmed.” It also omits “armed with a knife” and focuses on “shot seven times in front of his children.”

    Jerry,

Again, I appreciate what it must be to have the full responsibility of going into court. Obviously, one would want to have every single supposition backed up by evidence. However, we are on Ricochet and have no access to the crime scene or an interview with any of the participents. I appreciate your chastening advice but I don’t see any reason to disbelieve the police. Yes the words could have been distorted and they are claiming that when the taser misfired it was an attempt to taser him. Yet, it does seem unlikely that police equipment (kept at a high operational level) would have failed twice. Even if it did fail twice then they again don’t have a realistic option of tasering him which is the point anyway. We are stuck with a guy with a very dangerous knife, who will not listen to a command at gunpoint who appears to be reaching into a vehicle to obtain another weapon and/or going on a high speed escape attempt with children on board the vehicle.

Once again the police have no choice. Yes, if other evidence comes to light that seriously questions one of these premises, I would be forced to revise my summary. When it does I certainly will but for now I’ll just stand pat thank you very much.

    Regards,

    Jim

It is not a good thing that many people, including Democratic politicians, leaped to conclusions in the absence of facts. We should not do the same thing. A couple of examples:

    James Gawron (View Comment):

    . . .

Of all of the new information, I find the fact that they tasered him twice and it had no effect the most interesting. Obviously, he was on a drug of some kind. . . .

It is not obvious that Blake was on a drug. We don’t know why the taser attempts were ineffective. The tasers may have malfunctioned. The cops might have missed. I don’t think that we know.

    . . .

I have seen “news” reports stating that the suspect was shot in front of his children; not mentioning that they just happened to be in the the vehicle he was attempting to steal.

I don’t think that we have evidence that he was attempting the steal the vehicle at issue. I think that there is an allegation that he previously attempted to steal a vehicle, and I don’t think that we know whether it was the same vehicle.

I will stand corrected, if you have additional information which I have not seen.

That’s the problem in this hyper politicized (D) induced Antifa/BLM strategy of fomenting violence and inferring police racism in every tragic police on black shooting.

In this Kenosha,WI incident the (D) (ie: WI Gov Evers?, WI AG Kaul?) who control the “facts” will attempt to make sure the “facts”  remain opaque or unrevealed for as long the (D) controlling the “facts” perceive it is politically expedient.

Shouldn’t black lives matter be marching to stop whatever sort of culture produces men like this? The police aren’t the problem here. Jacob Blake’s behavior would have destroyed him and the people around him, black women and children being foremost among them, with or without police.

The name is a pretext, their goals of eradicating the family and defunding the police, by which they have clarified they mean entirely, enriches no lives, leaving children and citizens in general to the predators. Mao pursued the same agenda village by village in his rise from minor warlord to total power.

With these organizations, judge them first by what they do, then by what they demand, and lastly by their propaganda. If they are destroying lives then lives do not matter to them. Arrest, prosecute, imprison. Our family and friends are not safe until it happens. And finding charges to fit mayors like Durkan, Wheeler, and De Blasio, and any other that has coddled rioters for the last 90 days would also be in order. 90 days! Their conduct has been criminal and thousands have suffered needlessly for their unmitigated and unconscionable dereliction of duty.

Not his car! A car that he has been charged with stealing! Three minors in the back seat and he attacks police! And his demonic lawyer has the gall to complain that he was shot in front of his kids! Do we have evidence that these are his kids? Birth certificates? Blood tests?

If Blake gets turned back out on the streets, then no lives matter in Kenosha.

The officer who shot Blake is a hero and should be treated as such . . .

    Amen, brother.
