Green New Deal: Serious as a Mass Famine

Keep yucking it up. Talk about Alexandria Occasional Cortex. Hey, it could never happen here right? Not so fast, slick, your laughter is actually based in ignorance or forgetfulness. Stalin engineered a terror famine, the Holodomor, and Mao killed off up to 60 million inconvenient people with his Great Leap Forward. Today, Venezuelans are eating rats. Now are you focused?

Holodomor memorial monument in Kyiv, UkraineAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist scheme reveals, in its own words, the red origins and aims of the Green movement. Instead of greedy capitalists oppressing wage slaves, evil polluters are killing everyone. those at the top of the intersectional virtue pyramid hit hardest.

This is as funny as a heart attack, more precisely, as funny as the mass murders by starvation perpetrated by Stalin and Mao, when they took similar steps to seize total control and break independent farmers, among others. These, plus Venezuela, must be put before the public in every medium. President Trump needs to unleash the Treasure and Commerce Departments to target the billions plundered by the Chavez and Maduro families. Show that AOC and crew are really about looting the country for themselves.

Walter Olson is right, as far as he goes, in “Green with Envy:”

Every politician who rushed to endorse the Green New Deal slogan — whether before the filling in of details about what it meant, or afterward — ought to be held to account by voters.

But, that is not enough. We must slam shut the Overton window. Stop mocking and start speaking true truth to mass murdering power. If you must mock, do so in terms that tie the socialist wing of the Democrats to mass murder. Every. Time.

I missed the speech and watched it on Ricochet.  I noted that Ms. Cortez stayed seated throughout the speech with a sour lemon expression until….Trump wanted to highlight the new women in the workforce, notably elected to Congress…then she rose up and was gushing and high-fiving all those around her.  Selfie anyone? Trump took notice of that.

I am sickened by all the attention she is getting – but maybe it’s a good thing – like when the Gov. of VA mouths off – things happen….hmmm. maybe let her keep yapping…

A good sign, was the need for Occasional Cortex to take down the green screed in short order. Then there was one of her minions lying to Tucker Carlson about what the screed said. This indicates a giant Woops !

Her plan is funny in the abstract, but not-so-funny when you think about what zealots who would come up with a plan like this would do to enforce it on the non-believers.

While they’ve pulled back the zanier parts of the proposal and are attempting to pretend they never released them in the first place, what kind of True Believer mindset do you have to have to have looked at the proposal before you did hit ‘send’ and think a document that bemoaned excessive cow tooting and called for the elimination of air travel was not going to be subject to ridicule?  That’s what they really think, and they also really think anyone who doesn’t believe that is evil and standing in the way of the road high-speed train to paradise.

    Cliff,

I saw what you’re seeing so very long ago. I was still in school when the radicals realized that the revolution wasn’t going to happen. They needed a new safe haven. The whole environmental movement became infested with these former Marxist radicals. Then there was the GAIA hypothesis. I knew what it was immediately. Here is the recipe for the GAIA hypothesis. You take Marx and Malthus and mix their extreme paranoia’s together. This makes one sickening stew. Stinks to high heaven. You need something to season it with to make it palatable. So now you sprinkle on a layer of Carl Jung. Yep, GAIA the Earth Goddess. They’ll fall for the feminine schtick every time. Now the most virulent anti-human totalitarian ideologic garbage is concealed behind a female emogee smiley face.

So a little googly-eyed psychotic bartender now babbles total garbage and the media echoes every soundbite. Even Chuck & Nancy know she’s nuts but hey, inflating government with lies to get power is just good business to Chuck & Nancy. Hey, Chuck & Nancy say, what do you want, like we should be responsible for the idiotic policies that we’re peddling to the human race. Listen we’re in the adult bedtime story business. As long as our followers can drift off to sleep imagining that they really care about the world’s problems, it doesn’t matter that our actual policy proposals would result in death & destruction.

    Lighten up would you?

    Regards,

    Jim

While I may refer to her as, say, Ab-by-normal Cortex, it’s obvious she’s getting the Obama treatment: making a great deal out of nothing or very little.  That she has allies in much of the media is not to be taken lightly.

And, if I understand the article, our response in regards to her, as well as others striving for the undoing of the Republic, ought to be more bold and enterprising than reactionary.  Even more so with the laying of the foundation of Election 2020 already underway.  Here, I’m thinking of what’s happening behind the public scene.

The left is about seizing and wielding power.  Absolute, raw power. As Cliff’s examples show, there are no innocent bystanders in their quest.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking we need to actively engage in some negative re-branding of the Left. Calling them either liberal or progressive has always been a rock in my shoe, because they are neither. Facist and Statist are apt, but neither is likely to gain traction given the misuse and history of the terms. But Socialist works well enough, especially since they’ve begun embracing the label themselves. Unfortunately, socialism is seeing a return to popularity, especially among the young. We need something with more teeth in it. In particular, we need to push back on Democratic Socialism. That just dresses socialism up in a pretty bow and makes it sound innocuous.  I like the term Neo-socialist, since it at least reminds us that this has all been tried before. Perhaps that might make some take a look at how that went the last time around. Unfortunately, Neo-socialist has already been used. Still, anyone who is clueless about what socialism is likely wouldn’t know that.

I don’t know. But I’m convinced that we need to make socialism a dirty word, the way Papa Bush made liberal a dirty work back in the late ’80s, and that we need to beat them over the head with their own (re)newly adopted label.

If the Democrats lose in 2020, and moving too far left due to AOC is seen as one of the main reasons they lost, even if she wins re-election to her congressional seat, with New York State expected to lose one Congressional district in the realignment, Andrew Cuomo will make sure that one seat is hers, and will have the legislature carve up her district among the surrounding liberal Democrats before the 2022 election.

Some years ago on this site, people were all earnestly a-chatter about one Thomas Piketty, who had written something. Then that all went away. Then it was T.N. Coates’s turn. Then that all went away. Will AOC and her emissions all go away too?

I’m guessing no, or at least not soon. I think the Democratic Party will keep her visible for quite some time, because she is exotic, and Democrats sure love that. Not for any good reason; they just do. Exotic people and places teach them nothing. After 8 years of Obama, surely not 1 Democrat dared to infer 1 thing about Africa – which Obama wasn’t from but he sure pretended to be. Likewise it may be with Ocasiocita and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is the true Failed State, a furnace to shovel dollars into and a long-up-and-running testbed for unlimited immigration from a primitive land, but I don’t think Democrat or Republican will dare to come to any conclusions about that.

I think AOC will learn to use phrases that serve as socialist dog-whistles, while at the same time don’t sound completely idiotic.  More platitudes and few details.  This will help with her long-term political survival, but it will make her unimportant.

I wouldn’t underestimate her. She may be an econ major who is economically clueless, but she is certainly skilled politically. Look at how she turned the mockery of a college-era music video to her advantage. Or how she tweeted “All your bases are mine” when a poll showed that 45% of Republicans favored a  70% tax on income (God help us). If that is true of that percentage of Republicans, then imagine what percent of Dems would favor it. Remember what Prof. Gruber said about the economic understanding of the American people, not to mention P.T. Barnum’s observation.

The pols in Albany tried to gerrymander Bella Abzug out of office in 1972, but couldn’t do it, because the liberal Democrat incumbent they paired her with, William Ryan, had the bad fortune to die before the general election. Bella stayed in office and became the less-visually appealing AOC of her generation during the Watergate hearings (the gerrymander they tried on Bella also was pretty amazing, since the district narrowed down to one block wide in Greenwich Village — just wide enough to get her into the same district as the more-popular Ryan. If they try to gerrymander AOC out of Congress, I’d expect district lines to look similar).

Socialism reliably produces poverty, misery, and death. It generates these outcomes in exponential proportion to the degree of socialism adopted. No conservative should have a problem saying that.

One response to socialist cant that occasionally works is to make that statement, then use it to attack the socialist’s morality directly. I find that some socialists are merely stupid, in which case the technique does not work. Others, however, are on the narcissist/BPD/sociopath spectrum – a direct (but calm, that’s important) assault on such a prog’s self image is highly effective.

The Green New Deal is brilliant as a means of building support.  It aims for goals that a lot of people, especially young people, find attractive.  Forget the fact that it’s not practical, that no one knows how to get to those goals.  They will figure that out later, they’d say.  Everyone is talking about it.

It could happen the same way that it happened in Venezuela.  If the socialists have trouble bringing in Utopia for their people they will blame it on you know who and demand more and more power.

Conservatives continue to make fun of AoC.  Go ahead and laugh.  She’s incredibly dangerous and could end up with her hands on the levers of power in this country.

I find it amusing that the same people who are so very excited about us colonizing the Moon and Mars are convinced we can’t possibly survive a few degrees higher average temperature on Earth!  I have heard it proclaimed that we must colonize Mars because in a very short time, Earth will be uninhabitable.  How hospitable is the climate on those planets?  If we can survive there, why not here?

Which, of course, is more evidence that climate change is the macGuffin

The Democrats will ram this garbage down everyone’s throats if they ever win the White House again. They’ll tell themselves, like they did with Obamacare, that people like “elements” of the plan (free money for not working, etc.) and learn to put up the rest. And the first thing a Democrat Congress will do is exempt themselves and their cronies from all the new laws.

Several things about this business concerns me greatly.  The derision this proposal gets is well – deserved. And their presence it a single document makes them an easy target.   But those things make them too easy for us to dismiss.  While some of the time frames and paths exposed here are just silly, consider that nearly every one of the proposals are being implemented right now, or they are the proclaimed goals of present policy, in California.  This is truly where the Democrats/socialists fully intend to take us.

And why do they feel emboldened to reveal these things now, in this bold fashion?  There were many who openly embraced socialism and communism prior to WW II, particularly in the Roosevelt administration.  They saw these as the future of this country, after their glowing reports of how wonderful things were going in the Soviet Union, or so they had been led to believe.  Then it became unfashionable to have those tags, as the truth of the Soviet Union became clear, so they adopted the appellation “progressive.”  And when that became unpopular they usurped the name,” liberal.”  So how have things changed such that “progressive” again became viewed as a favorable label? And now a growing number of people view “socialist” as as favorable?

What does this teach us about our culture?
