Kamala Harris’ Salami Socialism

One of the most frightening developments in the run-up to the 2020 presidential election is the Democratic flirtation with socialist ideals. One recent manifestation of this unfortunate trend is the recent proposal from Senator Kamala Harris (CA) to have a vast government takeover of employment markets in the name of gender equity. In an age in which the phrase “diversity and inclusion” is on the lips of every business and university, she announces, without a shred of evidence, her deep conviction that labor markets consistently and systematically discriminate against women by failing to offer them equal wages for equal work. Her purpose is to hold “corporations accountable for pay inequality in America.” How? Through “the most aggressive equal pay proposal in history.”

The proposal goes downhill from there. The first question that one has to ask is why competitive labor markets need any form of wage regulation to protect women in the first place. Sure, there are thousands of large corporations in America, but they are in constant competition with each other, along with every small firm in the market, to hire the best talent they can find. Harris starts out with misleading statistics that lament that women only earn 80 percent of what men earn, and then waxes even more indignant that the ratios are even worse for Latina women (53 percent), Native American women (58 percent), and African American women (61 percent). Clearly, any effort to accurately explain these outcomes requires an accounting, as she acknowledges in the fine print, for education, hours worked, job classification, years of experience, parental leave, and many more factors. Accounting for some of these factors—many others are hard to identify, observe, and measure—reduces that gap to around 6 percent at most.

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America react to the U.S. shifting military resources to the Middle East to address an apparent threat against American forces by Iran. They’re also getting tired of Democrats refusing to accept the results of elections they obviously didn’t win, as Sen. Kamala Harris tells the […]

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America pour three crazy martinis. They marvel at the pathetic attacks on Attorney General Bill Barr from Senate Democrats – from ad hominem attacks to slamming legal positions they held strongly until the past few weeks. They also groan as Hillary Clinton continues to insist […]

Recently Kamala Harris was asked if she thinks Donald Trump is racist. Harris’s response was, “I don’t know how you could reach any other conclusion.” That’s not really a shocker. Democrats have been calling Republican Presidents racists as long as I can remember. But the press seems to have discovered something that could be an […]

Jim Geraghty of National Review and Greg Corombos of Radio America appreciate the comments former CBS reporter Lara Logan made on media bias turning into media activism. They also discuss Bernie Sanders launching another presidential campaign and wonder if the 77-year-old democratic socialist will be able to make waves in 2020. And they also chuckle […]

Green New Deal: Serious as a Mass Famine

Keep yucking it up. Talk about Alexandria Occasional Cortex. Hey, it could never happen here right? Not so fast, slick, your laughter is actually based in ignorance or forgetfulness. Stalin engineered a terror famine, the Holodomor, and Mao killed off up to 60 million inconvenient people with his Great Leap Forward. Today, Venezuelans are eating rats. Now are you focused?

Holodomor memorial monument in Kyiv, UkraineAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist scheme reveals, in its own words, the red origins and aims of the Green movement. Instead of greedy capitalists oppressing wage slaves, evil polluters are killing everyone. those at the top of the intersectional virtue pyramid hit hardest.

Green, With Envy

An end to industrial civilization, but like in a totally pro-union way.

If this week’s Green New Deal boomlet was politically significant, it wasn’t just because a legislative newcomer elected by 110,318 voters in Queens and the Bronx proposed a government program to renovate or replace every building in the country within ten years, abolish internal-combustion-engine cars and commercial air travel, shut down all conventional utility generation without building nuclear, phase out flatulent cows, support persons “unwilling” to work, print new paper money to pay for it all, and on and on. New York City voters have elected radical mavericks to Congress before and will do so again.

Why “Medicare for All” Isn’t Really Medicare at All

It was only days ago that Democrats were lambasting the Trump administration for its perceived indifference to the plight of 800,000 federal workers temporarily going without pay. Yet there seems to be little concern about the long-term fate of the more than half-million Americans who work in the health insurance industry from Democrats who support “Medicare for All.”

During a CNN interview Monday, anchor Jake Tapper asked presidential candidate Kamala Harris whether people would be able to keep their private insurance, if they preferred, under her MfA plan. Harris breezily responded “Let’s eliminate all of that. Let’s move on.” Now maybe some of these folks would end up working for the government helping to administer the expanded Medicare program. Others, seeing the writing on the wall, might start transitioning to other work before such a plan was ever implemented. The rest? Well, that’s the way the labor market churns, I guess. Millions of American gain and lose jobs every month, as it should be in a dynamic economy.

It sounds nuts, but in the current political climate, there would be multiple political advantages for Kamala Harris if she were to accuse her former paramour and political mentor, Willie Brown, of sexual assault. For those of you who may not know, Kamala Harris’s political career began when she was the consort to Willie Brown; […]

What Makes California Senators So Rude?

Yesterday, I watched California Senator Kamala Harris on her high horse interrogate Gina Haspel, the President’s well-qualified nominee to be CIA director. Haspel was professional, deliberate, and courteous. Kamala Harris was arrogantly demanding, rude, and dismissive.

The very senior Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein, was more pleasant but was corrected several times by Haspel because Feinstein’s “facts” were out of date and inaccurate. Feinstein did admit in her preface that the Haspel hearing would be one of the most difficult she ever participated in because she knows Haspel and they’ve had a friendly relationship. It turns out, however, that the hearing was difficult for Feinstein because her “facts” were all wrong. Her big “gotcha” question blew up in her face.
