Details are still coming in, but news broke over Twitter of a truck ramming through a crowd in Nice, France. The area was holding a Bastille Day celebration, and there have been some reports of gunfire.

The latest from the BBC:

A lorry has struck a crowd after Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, killing at least 75 people, officials are quoted as saying by local media.

It happened on the famous Promenade des Anglais after a firework display. The driver was “neutralised”, and guns and grenades were found inside the lorry.

One image on Twitter showed about a dozen people lying on the street.

Officials said it was “an attack”, asking local residents to stay indoors.

Many people were injured, some critically, in the incident on Thursday evening.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi said that “a lorry driver appears to have killed dozens of people”.

Prosecutor Jean-Michel Pretre said the lorry drove two kilometres (1.2 miles) through a large crowd, the AFP news agency reports.

Misthiocracy:“Germany let in way more muslim refugees than France did, and they haven’t been the target of terrorist attacks. See? France just needs to be more like Germany!” – hypothetical left-wing pundit

If I am not mistake nearly every attack in Europe has been perpetrated by Nationals, not refugees.

That would indicate a lesson here about certain second generation immigrants who do not assimilate.

DocJay:When you boil the Koran down to its literal meanings you get this act. The peaceful majorities just ignore the parts where the book says to kill enslave tax or convert the infidel. The peaceful ignore those critical parts because most people are inherently good. The book itself is a poison though and it’s followers need to defile the book’s instructions to never change it. A contradiction that cannot be fixed.

This century sees the death of hundreds of millions of Muslims or the end of Western civilization. Time will tell but when the winds blew, Obama stood with Islam. Never forget that history book writers.

4 more years of letting this be the norm? Have at it but do own it. To vote for Hillary is to consider this act the price of business.

With more and more attacks, I am thinking that Islam really is the problem. Maybe the “moderate” Muslims that aren’t Jihad-ing are just half-assing their religion. Who is really perverting Islam? The Jihadis or the going-thru-the-motions secular Muslims who kinda-sorta do Islam when it’s not too much trouble.

“By their fruits you will know them.”

    LORD,

Heal the bodies and hearts of those who were injured in this attack, and comfort their families.

Help us to see the truth revealed in this heinous act, and deliver us from this evil.

    Amen.

“On behalf of the American people, I condemn in the strongest terms what appears to be a horrific terrorist attack in Nice …”

Austin Murrey:Pictures of the truck indicate this may not have been an accident.

Why would anyone (excepting of course our jihadist-sympathizer-in-chief) think for a tenth of a second that this was an accident?

You forgot Islam is a religion of peace, these people don’t speak for Islam, love conquers all, we need tolerance, damn guns, we must be on guard for anti-Islamic rhetoric.

Since it “appears” to be an attack, I guess he felt like he’d better “appear” to be doing something about it.

Forgive me if I appear unimpressed.

Frozen Chosen: This description does not extend to all of Islam, however. I have many Muslim friends who are as horrified by these atrocities as anyone else. They are peaceful people who just want to live their lives. They are not responsible for these murders any more than all Christians are responsible for pedophile priests. We need to make that distinction.

    Why?

Marion Evans:Making all the talk about banning guns even more irrelevant.

Yes.  I’m not an expert on guns, but it occurs to me that if you want to reliably take down a specific person, the options are limited, and a gun is by far the best way to go.  If you just want to indiscriminately kill a lot of people, there is a much wider range of methods available.

Once more Reuters has done their interminable work in their classic intolerable fashion.

A “terrorist” gunman killed 80 people and wounded scores when he drove a heavy truck at high speed into a crowd watching Bastille Day fireworks in the French Riviera city of Nice late on Thursday, officials said.

Yes a “terrorist” or perhaps not? Quite the mystery. It is difficult to imagine that some actually pay for the execrable leavings of these dolts.

The sacred books of Judaism have Jews killing others at times at the direction of God, but Judaism is not a “universal” religion but restricted to a chosen set of people, and the violence is seen as relevant only to the particular time frame.

Christianity is, by contrast, a universal religion, whose adherents are directed to spread the Gospels. But the New Testament contains no directions for killing others.

Islam is both universal and it contains directives for killing others.

That’s how I see it. And, since there’s no one central authority decreeing how the Koran is to be interpreted, the problem will ALWAYS exist or have the potential to.

In particular we need to be willing to stand up for our own Christian values.  Europe has gone so far down the multicultural path that they no longer remember what their own values are.  Only a revitalized Christendom can stand up to Islam, a post-Christian postmodern politically-correct West will either be conquered or refuse to reproduce itself and wither away within a few more generations.

By the way, here’s my easy peasy guaranteezy prediction: nothing will change. No Western government will change refugee or immigration policies from the Muslim world. None will state that Islam is a faith of war. All will punish citizens that dare call a spade a spade. All will compensate for “increased terror threats” by putting military vets on terrorism watchlists and making more old nuns take off their shoes at airports. The Southern Poverty Law Center will send out flyers decrying “Islamaphobia, and tell you the REAL threat is that white Southern guy with a gun rack in his truck window. Nothing to see here, citizen. Move along.

It is sad that we will never know the motives on why these random people, killed other random people, for unknown and unknowable random reason, in this random country.  If only France had a few common sense gun laws this tragedy would have been avoided.  I hope Obama speaks soon since he is our best hope for communicating with random killers.  Maybe there will be a funeral that he can turn into a political rally so he can shame the GOP, NRA, white Americans, etc, again.  Possibly there is a YouTube video that caused this whole sorry mess.
