Isolated Iran leader lashes out at Europe as nations join US in ramping up pressure

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Friday lashed out at Germany, the U.K. and France, calling them the “footmen of the U.S.,” days after the European countries moved to sanction the Islamic Republic for violating the controversial 2015 nuclear deal.

Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Trump Tweets in Solidarity with Iran

The protests by the Iranian people against their government, ostensibly over the plane shoot down the other day but I think just in general confrontation with the Mullah government, is getting bigger. And Trump tweeted in solidarity both in English and in Farsi:

“To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage,” Trump’s first tweet read.

How many of you remember Obama bragging about his drone target list? My question is, was Soleimani on Obama’s list or not? And if not, why not? My guess is the answer is “No”. In fact, Obama even helped Soleimani out: More

After the President’s comments on the possibility of targeting Iranian cultural sites, there has been a barrage of criticism. President Trump has been accused of being ignorant of the legal conventions of war. He’s been called irrational, a bully, impulsive, reactive, a “war criminal” and worse. This is not surprising; those who oppose the President […]

Over the past few days, I’ve been thinking, off and on, about the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. I still remain a bit divided in my opinion. On the way to work today, I listened to yesterday’s Examining Politics podcast here at Ricochet, which interviewed Victor Davis Hanson and AEI resident scholar Michael Rubin about the […]

The fuss over President Trump’s decision to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani is causing the usual hair-on-fire reaction among the media and foreign policy elites. Everyone is playing the parlor game of wondering how Iran might respond, and how we might respond to Iran’s well-develop capacity for “asymmetric warfare.” Steve Hayward gets to wondering what […]

I just saw this story. It seems that history might be repeating itself, as “demonstrators” stormed the US Embassy in Baghdad. Many in the mob were seen wearing “militia” uniforms. What ought the most powerful country in the world do, when its territory is invaded by a hostile mob? Damage was done to US property, […]
