I Guess I Just Don’t Care Anymore, Do You?

I made a few mistakes this morning. The first was logging in to Facebook. The second was glancing over to the right at the “trending” thing.  The third was opening up this.

Exclusive: Monica Lewinsky Writes About Her Affair with President Clinton

I suppose that there is enough lurid voyeur in me to click (which I did — so yeah, there is).  But then, reading Monica Lewinsky’s own words, I was overwhelmed with a wave of I-don’t-give-a-damn. (Maybe it was the line “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.” That made me roll my eyes so far back into my head that I fell over in my chair.)

It’s not that it wasn’t important. It was at the time. And that time was 15 years ago. In retrospect, the simple troubles of the gay ’90s make it seem like we were all living in Mayberry.

As for “breaking her silence,” didn’t she do that like 10 years ago? She wrote a book, right? Wasn’t there a Barbara Walters interview? And she had a line of hand bags or berets or something?

I’m getting a strong whiff of Al Bundy here. If you’ll recall, Al Bundy was stuck on that fact that he had scored four touchdowns in one game while quarterback for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966.

I mean, not to put her down, I’m sure she’s done other things in her life — but this? Now?

Sorry, Miss Lewinsky, I really just don’t care any more.

This was orchestrated by Hillary to get it out of the way prior to her trundle for the Presidency.

You beat me to the punch here.

Lynne Cheney proposed this idea last night on O’Reilly. Laura Ingraham was sitting in and was taken back by this and regretted that she had thought of it. I think it makes perfect sense, at this time, for Hillary to place this into VF.

I think you meant to write “hadn’t” thought of it? As long as we’re on a Machiavellian train of thought here, this story might yet come out again right before the primaries to engender sympathy for the “wronged” woman. The Clintons will somehow manage to manipulate all angles of their sorry excuse for a marriage according to political timing.

    I will say this:
She’s held up pretty well over the years. I know they do a lot of retouching and so forth, esp. at Vanity Fair and Vogue, but you know, she looks pretty good.
Submitted for your consideration: Bubba’s involvement with her may not have been an indiscretion, but one of the few really good choices he ever made. At the other end of the spectrum:

Thanks E. I did go back edit in a “not”. Good catch.

Well the Clinton’s manage to manipulate in no small part because 29 out of the 30 companies listed in the Dow have donated millions to the Clinton’s foundations. I’d post a link but iPads and Rico 2.0 do not always get along. Google Bloomberg News and Clinton foundations. It’s from a couple of days and warrants its own post. Very, very dirty.

The Left loves to hold up Monica Lewinsky for ridicule.  The feminists excoriated her at the time the story broke, and they still do.  She took all the blame from the Democrats, well, after the Republicans, that is.

The only reason I tend to read stories about Lewinsky is that I feel sorry for her.  She was a screwed-up kid to begin with.  Her mother was famous for writing the unauthorized [sleazy] biography of the three tenors.  When a person has grown up with a looney-tune for a parent, I feel sorry that person.  Her mother followed the tenors around, and Monica followed suit, in her own way with President Clinton.  It’s Clinton’s behavior that I found unforgivable.  One would hope that the president of the United States would realize that this was a messed-up kid and get help.  He didn’t have an affair with her.  It was so much sicker and perverted than that.

The person I thought was very understanding of Lewinsky was the owner of the diet food company she represented (can’t remember the name of it).  I saw him with a protective arm around her in many photographs.

One good thing that came from the whole affair was that there was a significant drop in major stories about CEOs and dalliances with their subordinates. The whole feminist big plan of the left to go after capitalists of their choosing and people on the right in leadership roles was strangled in its infancy. It definitely showed to America that the feminists are really leftists pretending that women are treated badly.

Clinton had that effect on most of the feminist movement at the time. When they turned from defending sexual harassment victims no matter how thin the accusation to defending Clinton from any and all accusations, they more or less pulled the chair out from under themselves in that regard. They ceased to be about defending women and became all about defending abortion at all levels.

Tedium ad nauseum. By the way, I did throw up a little in my mouth when I read somewhere, “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.” Ya think?

Bury the dress ?????    Someone told me that the dress is now in the custody of the Smithsonian – can this be true?  If so,  it needs to be prominently and permanently displayed.

The Smithsonian turned it down, and it was subsequently sold at auction.

Personally, I think the Smithsonian should have taken it. It’s the key piece of evidence in a president’s impeachment. That makes it a highly significant historical artifact.

I find this Lewinsky redux session interesting for the media analysis side of it: Why now? Why Vanity Fair?

Good questions and I am going to guess that the timing is Lewinsky’s.  After all the “value” of her forthcoming book is entirely dependent on Hillary’s presidential run (no great insight there).  The question then is do you go early just in case Hillary does not get the nomination or do you risk it all hoping for a release a month before the nominating convention when the media frenzy is highest.  It sounds like she is opting to go early and take the safer road.

As for  the Vanity Fair part you need only look a the picture, 20 years later and she looks fantastic.  Beauty and notoriety are Vanity Fairs’ editorial guidelines.

I hope Lewinsky comes up during the Hilary campaign as a sign of a woman unable to manage her husband, and therefore unfit to manage our country.

… also the sign of a Secretary of State who couldn’t manage Benghazi or Boko Haram…

And allow me to follow up with this:

The Bama attack showed [Boko Haram’s]  substantial firepower, including machine guns, large numbers of rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) and pick-up trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns, a sign the weapons flood from the Libyan war that helped rebels seize parts of Mali last year has reached Nigeria, officials say. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/13/us-nigeria-islamists-insight-idUSBRE94C04Q20130513

Did the Libyans get those weapons from the US, and if so, who facilitated it?

I remember changing the channel when i saw that commercial come on, offended at the way she was being treated like a regular celebrity.
