I made a few mistakes this morning. The first was logging in to Facebook. The second was glancing over to the right at the “trending” thing. The third was opening up this.

I suppose that there is enough lurid voyeur in me to click (which I did — so yeah, there is). But then, reading Monica Lewinsky’s own words, I was overwhelmed with a wave of I-don’t-give-a-damn. (Maybe it was the line “It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress.” That made me roll my eyes so far back into my head that I fell over in my chair.)
It’s not that it wasn’t important. It was at the time. And that time was 15 years ago. In retrospect, the simple troubles of the gay ’90s make it seem like we were all living in Mayberry.
As for “breaking her silence,” didn’t she do that like 10 years ago? She wrote a book, right? Wasn’t there a Barbara Walters interview? And she had a line of hand bags or berets or something?
I’m getting a strong whiff of Al Bundy here. If you’ll recall, Al Bundy was stuck on that fact that he had scored four touchdowns in one game while quarterback for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966.
I mean, not to put her down, I’m sure she’s done other things in her life — but this? Now?
Sorry, Miss Lewinsky, I really just don’t care any more.

I don’t really care either, except insofar as she is having a pity party about how she is really the victim in all this.
Puh-lease. She will never be known for anything else, for all the same reasons she did the deed in the first place.
“Internet shaming”
This, coming from police state advocates who state that You shouldn’t worry about government spying and cameras if You ain’t doing anything wrong.
If Yer so concerned about shaming, then don’t do anything shameful.
Not much of a defense of the girl, but if she were strong enough and brave enough and smart enough to be able to move on and leave her time with The Serial Rapist behind, Bill Clinton would not have targeted her in the first place.
She’s known for one thing, to the point that Mark Steyn could not resist leering “Going down?” when they were sharing an elevator at the Watergate Hotel.
What else is she going to do? Have some pity on the poor girl. She’s doing what she can with what she has to work with.
Mind you, don’t read the book, and next time just gloss over the mention of her name, as it will probably have something to do with the story of her being raped back in the 1990’s.
I didn’t read the article, but I have always felt sorry for her. The President of the United States preyed on someone who was barely a woman. She should have known better, yes, but in a nation that has very few sexual mores her behavior was hardly surprising. I don’t see that Bill Clinton was much injured by it all, even though the lion’s share of the culpability belongs to him. It’s just so sad that that’s the one thing that mostly defines her life. I just hope she can move on and find happiness–which she won’t do by bringing the whole sorry episode up again in magazine articles.
I would suggest that the Lewinsky scandal also marks Hilary. Hilary was not woman enough to manage her husband and keep him home, or divorce him for his known serial infidelity to her.
By all appearances Bill and Hilary had sex once, conceived a child, and she freed him to look elsewhere (which seems to have suited his personality).
I hope Lewinsky comes up during the Hilary campaign as a sign of a woman unable to manage her husband, and therefore unfit to manage our country.

What difference, at this point, does it make ?”
Lewinsky was only publicly noteworthy because she was having sex with Clinton. That was noteworthy because of what it revealed about the recklessness and character of the man that America placed in the White House. It was about him, not her. She was tangential to the story.
It’s kind of weird to refer to a woman in her 40’s as a girl.
The sex part to me is beside the point. Anyone caught up in a fight versus the Clinton machine has a story to tell. If they live that is.
I once thought that as people aged, they grew up. One of the biggest shocks of my life was when I discovered that the vast majority of people don’t get there. Many 40 year-olds are just old children.

It scares me to think of the depth and breadth of my apathy. Finally I have a way of conceiving of the idea of infinity.
Is there a particular reason she’s wearing a wedding dress in that photo?

Is the thrust (sorry) that Republicans have a “war” on all women, Democrats are willing to destroy their lives one at a time and always for the progressive good?
I find this Lewinsky redux session interesting for the media analysis side of it: Why now? Why Vanity Fair? Who set up the interview? Who’s getting paid? How much are they getting paid? Who’s her publicist? Who else does her publicist work for? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Like, is it significant that Lewinski once dated Jake Tapper? I dunno, probably not…
This was orchestrated by Hillary to get it out of the way prior to her trundle for the Presidency.
That’s more on the money. If she’s anticipating her run for the presidency, best to get this stuff out of the way now.

I mean, I thought this sort of behavior was frowned upon on the left – and to be fair, I understand that the shame that the left wanted to heap upon Lewinsky was not for cuckolding Mrs. Clinton, it was for being so callow as to get caught at it.
If Monica Lewinski had been a witness against Organized Crime (I mean the kind recognized and prosecuted by the DOJ), she would right now be better off.
She’d have a new identity and a new life and been enjoying the second chance she really could use right now.
But since there was no criminal prosecution involved, she’s up the creek without a paddle.

They portray her in a virginal white dress with white flowers. More like white-washing than slut-shaming.
Lynne Cheney proposed this idea last night on O’Reilly. Laura Ingraham was sitting in and was taken back by this and regretted that she had not thought of it. I think it makes perfect sense, at this time, for Hillary to place this into VF.

The whole thing is a shame. She’s a pretty woman, and now when I look at her all I can think of is Bill Clinton leaving his Presidential signature in places that he shouldn’t have.
Bill Clinton is a philandering, rotten cad of a man. He IS the War on Women, and Hillary Clinton is its Supreme Allied Commander.
Yes, it’s a shame. It’s sad and pathetic.
And it’s a distraction. As Fred notes, it’s a trip down memory lane a la Bundy. Let’s not indulge in it ourselves by mourning the Bubba that got away, but forgetting to set the hook on Hillary.
