How Much Longer Do We Have to Put Up with This Garbage?
From Charles C.W. Cooke (why does that name sound familiar?), in today’s NRO:
“In the wake of the federal indictment against Trump — which, unlike the Bragg nonsense, is absolutely devastating — I’ll ask again: Aren’t you all tired of this crap? Don’t you want to get past it? Don’t you want to do some politics for a change? How much longer do we all have to put up with this garbage?
We’re now in year eight of Donald Trump’s nonsense, and he’s getting worse, not better. Trump lost in 2020. Then he tried to rewrite the Twelfth Amendment and the Electoral Count Act of 1887 to steal the election. Then he interfered in the 2022 primaries, with disastrous political consequences. Now he’s been indicted for stealing highly classified documents — which, yes, is not the same as a conviction, and which should not be confused with one, but which has clearly happened as a result of his total disregard for the rules. What, in Heaven’s name, is the case for keeping him around? He’s broken his oath of office. He’s repeatedly revealed himself to be completely unfit for the presidency. He’s shown he can’t win. Politicians are servants. Trump isn’t serving anything or anyone. Why is he still in the conversation?”
That is my question. I’m a life-long conservative (Reagan branch), and am so tired of all the Trump garbage that I may choose to vote “Mickey Mouse” in 2024. I long for the days when politics was politics instead of a clown circus.

SRSLY?! Who is ‘we’ Kimosabe?
And … who appointed you as Hall Monitor anyways, Karen?!

I don’t know what that means.
I thought he was Curly.
Landru?!?!
Colombo,
Here are the answers to your questions.
By “we” I meant the people who support, and seek to follow, the community standards that the CoC is intended to support.
I am just an ordinary subscriber like you, Colombo. Nobody appointed me to anything ;-)
I agree completely. Donald Trump is a bit like Richard Nixon. Nixon had the right enemies, so many conservatives who doubted Nixon felt that they needed to stick with him anyway.
It’s similar with Trump. Trump has the right enemies. But Trump consistently provides ammo for his enemies and then says to Republicans, “Look at my enemies. They are using ammo against me.”
This isn’t to say that the Left would go easy on another Republican. Not at all. It’s just that another Republican wouldn’t create so many opportunities for his opponents.
sigh, like when the entire MSM edits the Charlottesville speech to lie that Trump supports Nazi’s, or when the entire MSM (and never Trumpers) declare that Trump is in cahoots with the Russians, or, or… or ad infinitum. Sure, Trump provided all this ammo. uh-huh, yup.
I have a great bridge to sell you.
And, I know of a Nigerian Prince, who needs some help to get his inheritance, simply send me your bank account info, and ID. Also, he has a bit of up front expenses, which if you cover, he will repay 10,000 times over.
Trust me. You trust the MSM. I am much more reliable.
There are a few instances, where Trump blew it.
Signing the Omnibus budgets. Huuuge mistake.
Recently attacking Kayleigh McEnany. That was really, really, bad. She is and was loyal and magnificent. BadA$$ to the core.
But neither of these actions provided ammo to the left.
If you think that Trump has never handed the Left ripe target opportunities, you either have been living in a cave for the past 8 years or you have had too many drinks.
Trump creates messes for himself and then when the Left attacks, Trump tells all of his followers to fight back against the Left. So, we are constantly battling the Left with a terribly flawed candidate. Why not choose someone who doesn’t constantly hand ammo to the Left?
The text I refer to is this
To say that a person has no concern about election cheating is a personal attack. Obviously, every decent person is concerned about dishonest elections.
Can you please cite a couple, few, just one? Of these messes you claim are his sole responsibility.
I’ll help. The grab em by the kitty cat tape.
Your turn.
If you need me to present examples to you, this means you lack the ability to understand how someone with political views different from your own views Trump’s statements.
Perhaps the Republican primary electorate is stocked with people who have no idea how someone with a different political outlook views Trump. If that’s the case, then the Republicans will likely nominate Trump again and Trump will likely lose again.
My hope is that there are a lot of Republican voters who have friends, relatives and co-workers who agree with many Republican policy ideas but don’t like Trump and therefore will choose a different Republican to be the nominee in 2024. Then the Republicans can win.
No, she’s been attacking him on Fox News for two years.
A humorous, self-deprecating story about how Trump tried to woo a woman — he even took her furniture shopping — and she wouldn’t sleep with him (even though, when you’re famous, women let you do anything).
Listen to the tape. It doesn’t show what everyone claimed it did.
That brings up another way of looking at Trump compared to the other Republican candidates for president.
Bill Barr, Trump’s former Attorney General, said recently that Trump “jerked the government around” regarding the classified documents. So, Bill Barr is not on Trump’s Christmas card list anymore. Same for nearly everyone who served in Trump’s cabinet when Trump was president.
Think of all the people Trump worked with as president and how Trump is getting along with them today, including, but not limited to, Kayleigh McEnany.
You have the option of believing that the dozens of people who worked with Trump in his administration are the ones who have turned into allies of the deep state. But you could also conclude that maybe there is something wrong with Trump. Just think about those two possibilities for a while.
So… you got nothin.
That’s what I suspected.
Just another Never Trumper/MSM talking point.
BTW, I specifically included the kitty grabbing tape because it was a nothing burger.
I just think that you are out of touch with a majority of American voters, many of whom like some Republican policies, but don’t like Trump and won’t vote for Trump.
You see only the good in Trump and you are incapable of seeing anything that Trump ever did that might be offputting to voters. If most Republicans suffer from the same myopia you suffer from, that’s a problem for the Republicans in 2024.
“Listen to the tape”! What a novel concept! Very much akin to all these “experts” expounding on the indictment who almost certainly have never read it and never will read it. I hope to do a post about the actual language of the indictment, but will never publish such a document until I can attest I have read– and studied– every single jot and title of said document. Just old fashioned enough to think that folks who hold themselves out to be experts on a given issue should actually (imagine!) know the substance of what they are expounding about. Just sayin’
He did that? Really? Is there a direct quote?
As to the question, “How much longer?” the best estimate can be found in the actuarial tables
Stooge is a descriptor. imnsho. It’s like retarded or stupid.
“Kayleigh ‘Milktoast’ [sic] McEnany just gave out the wrong poll numbers on FoxNews [sic],”
“I am 34 points up on DeSanctimonious, not 25 up. While 25 is great, it’s not 34, she knew the number was corrected upwards by the group that did the poll. The RINOS & Globalists can have her. FoxNews [sic] should only use REAL Stars!!!”
That’s the quote from his Truth Social post. Can’t even spell milquetoast…
Have you ever attended a Trump rally? I have had that experience and I can tell you from personal knowledge that to experience that kind of event is to see one of the most moving expressions of mass love for a leader you will have ever seen in your life. I have no idea what is going to happen in November of 2024- I don’t even know, at this point in what is left of the greatest experiment in self-governance ever created by the mind of man, what is going to happen tomorrow- but I can guarantee you that for all the people you talk about who will will crawl over broken glass to vote against Trump, there will be a much larger number who will do ANYthing to help him get re-elected. This statement is based on my own personal knowledge of seeing a massive crowd of ultra-ultra-MAGA supporters of then President Trump at a Trump Rally. I was there. I saw it. If you ever see it, you will have no doubt as to who is going to be the Republican nominee. From that point all I can do is pray that there will be enough safeguards in place to assure an honest election. For, at this point, if we do not — we may well have lost our Republic, as Dr. Franklin warned us…….
And how did Trump get along with his Secretary of Transportation? Or his Secretary of Defense? Or his National Security Advisor? Or his Chief of Staff? Or his Attorney General?
You can say that these other folks who worked with Trump are just lackies for the deep state, which makes one wonder why Trump selected them to be in his administration. Or you can say that maybe Trump is at fault.
Is that blasphemy? Are we allowed to use our critical thinking skills when it comes to evaluating Trump?
There is just one problem with this analysis.
Right now, Joe Biden is in the White House and Donald Trump is not.
So, one can think of various explanations for this. One is that, in November 2020, more people were willing to crawl over broken glass to vote against Trump than were willing to crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump. Another is that the opposite was true in November 2020, but Biden and his minions stole the election from Trump.
Either way, it’s hard to see what the purpose is of nominating Trump again. Do we think that Trump stands a better chance of winning in 2024 now that Merrick Garland is Attorney General? Is Merrick Garland going to crack down on voter fraud more than Trump’s AG did? Not to mention all of the US Attorneys that Biden hired in place of those hired by Trump.
Consider the possibility that the folks who show up to Trump rallies are not representative of all Americans. Bernie Sanders had some pretty big crowds too. But I bet you know a lot of people who wouldn’t vote for Bernie Sanders, don’t you?
And that just creeps me out. We’re Americans, not monarchists. Presidents are supposed to be public servants, no more, no less. To be in adulation of any politician is just creepy.
At any rate, Trump’s rallies speak to depth, not breadth. Depth only gets you so far – the person who just adores Trump still has just one vote to cast. Trump needs breadth – which means he has to attract independents, without which he can’t win. So far he hasn’t done that, though it’s still early.
Agreed, and so calling someone that directly is rude and should not be done.
Ok, again, I ask for specifics. Now we have lowered the bar to “offputting”, rather than But Trump consistently provides ammo for his enemies.
Are you referring to tweets that seem to inevitably be true? Here’s one: “Trump Towers is bugged”
The fact that you need me to provide examples tells me that you haven’t found any on your own. That’s fine. You think Trump doesn’t say or tweat things that are offputting to voters (which does have the impact of providing the Left ammo to be used against Trump).
If that is your opinion, after observing Trump for all of these years, nothing I present to you is going to change your mind.
My hope is that other Republican primary voters understand that many Americans, including people who like many Republican policies, find Trump objectionable after having observed him for several years. If so, perhaps they will vote for Ron DeSantis in the primary instead of Trump. Maybe or maybe not.
With the utmost of respect for my esteemed colleague and author of this post which has engendered all manner of “redactions”, stern language from the moderators, strong differences in viewpoints (didn’t I read recently a statement by Mr. Cooke that there would “never” be viewpoint censorship on Ricochet? Maybe I’m confused .. ), but I thought I might try to do something which I don’t think has been attempted in all these comments — take a close and consideed look at Mr. Cooke’s screed, as that is all one can reasonably call it, which is the basis of the post.
Mr. Cooke, I am given to understand, has become someone with an important title here on Ricochet and has informed us about the “new” Code of Conduct; it is with this background that I address some of the statements in his truly objectionable article. He states that the indictment is “absloutely devastating” and links to the document itself; it is not all clear that he has read the document. I plan to do a study of the indictment, but will never publish it until I have read every word of it. He asks whether we are all tired of “this crap.” Is that what Mr. Cooke considers the language of civility and proper discourse? He states we are now in year eight of President Trump’s “nonsense.” I personally find that word quite inappropriate when describing one of the most effective Presidencies in our history; should that word be “redacted”? He says “He’s shown he can’t win.” Perhaps he should check that one out with the mad resident of Chappaqua who destroyed 30,000 emails which were under supoena. No comment from Mr. Cooke on that little slip-up, apparently. But, then, Mr Cooke’s coup de grace:
I don’t know where Mr. Cooke was during the years of President Trump’s term, so perhaps this might come as a surprise to him in view of the way this is phrased — President Trump accomplished every single one of the “things” you claim you want to “achieve.” I am simply astonished at the sheer effrontery of this bizarre statement.
But, saving the best for last: we are told by the esteemed, Right Honourable, Mr. Cooke, that if we disagree with him, we are “in a cult.” I am NOT a member of a cult! Outrageous!
