Nikki Haley Announces

. . . her bid for the GOP nom. I suppose it’s time to send some reporters to Mar-A-Lago to await the white puff of smoke that indicates DJT has chosen a derogatory nickname; wonder what it will be. Thought Nikki Fail-y would be good at the UN. Big disappointment! Iran and China still members.

Well, that’s not fair. The story says he approved and welcomes the competition.

She’s more interesting than Pence and more electable than Pompeo. She’d wipe the floor with Harris in debates if Joe fades away. Palin-endorsed. Jan. 6 critic for the moderates. Parents were immigrants. Interesting addition to the mix, no?

I don’t doubt what you say, but it always makes me wonder when popular politicians quit their gig without moving “up”. Did she quit* the governorship to run for president and then took the UN ambassadorship when her presidential bid failed?

No. There were oodles of Republicans running for president in 2016. Nikki Haley was not one of them.

Yes that’s right. Do you know why she gave up her spot as popular governor? Looking ahead to ’24? Looking to ease into retirement with the comparatively easier roles as senator or some other federal position?

I do not know what is in her heart.  I know there have been many times in the past when a president has asked someone to take an appointment and they didn’t even really want the position.  But they did it because the president asked them.  If Nikki Haley wanted to run for president in 2024, she could have done it without leaving the governorship of South Carolina and taking the position Donald Trump asked her to take.  Besides, your comment above is theorizing that she took the ambassadorial job after her presidential bid failed.  She has not yet had a failed presidential bid.

Yes I acknowledged that I got that part wrong – that she quit to run for president. I’m not now asking you what’s in her heart, only whether there was some publicly known or discussed reason for her to leave the governorship. Being asked by the president certainly is a potentially powerful one – another good sign of integrity.

Just trying to fill in some blanks on Haley. I realize that much of that will be speculation at this point, but I’m lacking empirical facts on her too. All I have are vague impressions, competing impressions at that.

I like Nikki Haley.  At least we have decent candidates possibly throwing their hats in. They are all familiar with Trump’s style and that includes his nicknames. Low energy Jeb, Little Marco, Crooked Hilary – I’m still giggling….. But they recognize he is a political force that gave us 4 years of funny tweets and a basket full of good things for the country.

I passed an older man today on a power walk wearing a “Make America Strong Again – Trump” t-shirt.  He said his son bought it for him.  That tells me something. It’s far too early to side with anyone, but the sooner Biden and Co. pack their suitcases, the  better.

It would be great if Biden took the Co. with him.  I expect they won’t go when he goes, though.

If we can convince people that Biden is crooked we should be able to clean some house based on the ‘you didn’t stop him so you’re complicit’ rule.

There is a saying that there are three plane tickets out of Iowa and two plane tickets out of New Hampshire.

That means that if I am in New Hampshire, I would vote for only one of the top three winners from Iowa.  And if I live any where else, I will only vote for one of the top two winners from New Hampshire.

In 2016, I preferred Marco Rubio.  He withdrew before the Arizona Primary.  I made a mistake.  I voted for my next choice, John Kasich.  But with the above rule, I should have voted for Ted Cruz, even though he was my next to last choice, just to stop Trump.
