Nikki Haley Announces

. . . her bid for the GOP nom. I suppose it’s time to send some reporters to Mar-A-Lago to await the white puff of smoke that indicates DJT has chosen a derogatory nickname; wonder what it will be. Thought Nikki Fail-y would be good at the UN. Big disappointment! Iran and China still members.

Well, that’s not fair. The story says he approved and welcomes the competition.

She’s more interesting than Pence and more electable than Pompeo. She’d wipe the floor with Harris in debates if Joe fades away. Palin-endorsed. Jan. 6 critic for the moderates. Parents were immigrants. Interesting addition to the mix, no?

“Nikki Fail-y” is good, but when the time comes, I’d go with “Clique-y Haley.”

Definitely interesting. I have a hard time imagining her pulling it off; I have an easy time imagining that I could learn as much between 23/24 as I did in 15/16.

    Smart to announce this early.

Does anyone still believe debate performance matters? Does anyone still believe Republican candidates should participate in debates as they have been historically organized?

Does anyone believe televised debates advance democracy?

If she’s the nominee, I won’t bother to turn up.  The NT crowd taught me that one.  I won’t vote for another Republican that I don’t like.

They broke the contract, not me.  I voted for Romney, I voted for McCain, I voted for for Bob [redacted] Dole.  Then they did everything they could to tear down a candidate I did support.  So never again.  If that means the Dems win, then so be it.  It’s not like she would make any difference.

Do you think Haley would be as bad as Romney or McCain?

I suppose the biggest problem she might have would be the Dims exploding over the first woman president not being a Dim, like happened with nominating Janice Rogers Brown to SCOTUS.

James Lileks: he approved and welcomes the competition.

Of course he approved.   The more the field is packed with vanity candidates, the more likely Trump is to win. Trump is likely to lose a one on one race with DeSantis.   Trump has to be heavily favored in a race against DeSantis and a field of twenty.   Trump greatly welcomes all insignificant additions to the field.

    Judge,

Press on, press on! however the kedavises of the world may discourage you, with

    • learning true things from members of the category “idiot losers” as well as from those who are not idiots, or [inclusive or] not losers.
    • rejecting false things from those who are not idiots, or [inclusive or] not losers as well as from those who are both.

First thought you’ve expressed all morning that I agree with! (Although that is 50% of the total, which is pretty good).

It’s just a routine instance of the WFB Process for selecting a candidate for public office

    • First decide, “Who is the most conservative candidate with a chance to win in the final?” (Your implicit question.)
    • Then vote for that candidate

I agree with both your, and Judge Mental’s process, even though they disagree.

It depends upon the potential voter’s judgement about conditions at the time of the election.

Your method seems right while there exists a republic in decline that might be still saved by the voters. His: afterwards.

It matters less who the ultimate Republican nominee is (Haley? DeSantis? Trump?), then on whether or not the GOP commits the time, energy and resources to turning out the vote using the current legal ballot harvesting tactics and methods. Elections are won in the weeks before “Election Day” by banking as many votes as possible AS EARLY as possible, not “turning out voters” at the last minute.

    Yawn.

How many Obama/Trump voters nationwide would she get? 200? 300?

Who is her base? NRO pundits?

Trump appoints her to the UN as a reward to the Lt. Governor so he can become Governor. Inconsequential post.

I’m sure you’ll hear lots of noise about how she will gin up the women’s vote in the suburbs. Have just read here about how good she would be in a debate.  We all need a good laugh at those pundits who say ridiculous things.
