I Suppose That I Missed the Gloating

Reports are that Trump-backed candidates were 15-0 in the Senate.  Now not all of them were the right sort of people, but we assume that a Trump-backed reprobate may be less ruined than a Trump-opposed and soon-to-be tarred and feathered reprobate.  Welllll, it’s a process, not a moment.

Red Wave inbound! (May be slow to load — stick with it)

I was looking for some more numbers I saw earlier today on the phone, and, well —  we did well.  In particular, Trump-backed candidates performed well.  So much for round three of “Trump is the kiss of death”.  Yeah, he can’t win, he should stay away, he’s poll-box-office poison… heard it before.  As I said a while back, the utilitarian Trump-Nopers with their “Trump is simply *bad* for the party’s prospects!” may be misjudging the American mood once again.

I’ll take a moment from my victory lap here to admit that I am not sanguine, but I think I’ve been keeping my doom pill under wraps pretty well these days, as the future is wide open, and we never know whether’s tomorrow’s harvest is more fertility or more fertilizer.  We do have excellent prospects, yet the GOP hosers are more than capable of hosing this up.  Maybe even by accident, although not necessarily.  Prophecy, prediction, warning, threat — there’s a spectrum.  Watch for the usual suspects (no, not people here on-site) to begin proving with geometric logic how this just means worse performance in the mid-terms, because now the cat is out of the bag or something.  My my my, the Democrats might wake.  We should hurry up and lose all of our elections so that never happens!

There may not be many reasons to be giddy, but we deserve a Mimosa to start the day this morning, and By Gum, two on Saturday morning.  Sunday?  Kari bar the door.

Oh, these are just primaries, or minor elections.  Yeah?  Where you at, NeverTrump?  Thought you were going to put us down once and for all, especially after the walls closed in on Trump what with the bombshell show trials, produced by real show people and everything.

I have a bottle of champagne which has gone unused since its purchase in November of 2020.  Might bust that out this weekend.  So now after the news has broken, but before the stunned Trump-Nopers regain their mathematical faculties (such as they are), I’m just savoring the sound of a pin dropping.  Tinnnng!

Thanks, Trump!

These idiots nominated John McCain and then Mitt Romney, who have since been uncovered as frauds and poseurs. Then, a large faction of GOP insiders wanted to push Jeb Bush on us – as though he could win. LOL. As though he just happened to have the same last name by coincidence.

What really galls people is that when an establishment drone is nominated over an upstart conservative, the party leadership puts the pressure on. “He may not have been your first choice, but for the good of the party and to defeat the Democrat menace, you must put your feelings aside and support him. After all, someone who will vote with you 50% of the time is still better than someone who will vote against you 100% of the time. Also, Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan.”

It’s entirely the opposite when the party establishment doesn’t get its way and the upstart conservative gets nominated. “This candidate is unacceptable and will drive voters away from the party. Please join our new ‘Republicans Against the Upstart Conservative’ group. Also, consider voting for the independent who is running as a spoiler.”

You mean like “Republicans for Katie Hobbs for Governor” in Arizona if Kari Lake wins? ;) We flipped Arizona in the 2020 election by voting against Trump, we will do it again for a Trump clone.

Sounds like you have delusions of relevance.

I have already dealt with this in my review of “LOST, NOT STOLEN: The Conservative Case that Trump Lost and Biden Won the 2020 Presidential Election.”

    I said,

The eight authors include three former federal judges, a former Solicitor General, and two former Senators. All are very well known conservatives. They undertook to examine every claim of fraud or misconduct put forward by former President Trump. They flatly state “Our conclusion is unequivocal: Joe Biden was the choice of a majority of the Electors, who themselves were the choice of the majority of voters in their states.” Aside from the pandemic and economic downturn, they note that there was “a small but statistically significant number [Edit. of Republicans] willing to vote for other Republican candidates on the ballot but not for President Trump” which is why Trump “fell short, not a fraudulent election.” This point was made by Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson who was not aware that he was been tape recorded, and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

Who cares? If the country is stupid enough to vote for Biden, it will get what it deserves, and is getting it now. If you want to take a large share the blame, so be it. If you are treated with contempt by those with the brains not to have voted for Biden, you earned it.

    Oh Django!

The difference between you and I is that you see Trump as some sort of victim.

The January 6th Select Committee has provided clear and convincing evidence that Trump was (a) the Creator of the Big Lie, (b) the Co-creator (or worse) of the Insurrection before it started and (c) then a Traitor to the nation as he disobeyed his oath of office to faithfully exercise the duties of this office during the 187 minutes of the riot at the Capitol (i) where officers were beaten by armed rioters to an inch of their lives, (ii) Congress had to flee for their safety, and (iii) Vice President Pence’s protective detail called their families due to the strong possibility that they could die.

It is interesting to me how goal posts can move. I have read some anti Trump types say they would vote for anyone who was not Trump later say they won’t vote for Trump approved candidates.

I fully expect, if at some point DeSantis was running and Trump supported him whole hog, that suddenly he would be unacceptable. They might deny it now, but it will happen.

Oh Bryan. I have repeatedly said that I would support DeSantis for President. I have even given him money. Have you?

Well, you sure are doing a bad job of providing said “evidence.”  Kevin McCarthy was stupid for yanking all of the Republicans that he had nominated for the January 6th Select Committee.  Mitch McConnell was stupid for stopping a 9/11 style Commission.

Drawing a line.  Please move the remainder of this particular flavor of the argument somewhere else.  We’ve all had this argument before, and this has wandered pretty far from this week’s results, and regrettably, into the boring, repetitious, and tense re-runs of shows that were boring and tense the first time they aired.

I will thank you all for respecting this requested boundary.  Naturally, I have no way to enforce it.  I can only ask.

I’m concerned by the many reports that the Democrats are pumping money and support into the Trump-backed candidates because they think they’ll have a harder time winning in the general. Can’t decide if this is wishful thinking on their part or not, or how much impact it’s having on any of the outcomes. (It does appear from some of the reports that many Democrats aren’t even on board with the tactic, and are concerned for their own part that it could massively backfire.) I suppose we’ll see how things shake out in a few months, but it sounds as if this their attempt to “fortify” the mid-terms.

    https://www.newsweek.com/democrats-risky-election-strategy-seems-working-opinion-1729315

    https://www.politico.com/news/2022/07/27/meijer-dccc-trump-primaries-00048104

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/msnbc-cnn-washington-post-continue-scold-dems-boosting-trump-backed-candidates-dangerous-game

It could always be that Democrats are running an Operation Chaos (Miss you, Rush!), but that can always be true at any time.  More evidenc for it this time around, perhaps, but then we have been assured time and again that Trump was just a democrat (indeed Russian!) plant to destroy the party and damage the country.

I figure that there’s always some of this going on, and if we let it call our plays, then the other team really is in charge.

Never-Trump was too prideful to tune down the gloating and attempt reconciliation with those in the party they alienated. “We’re willing to accept you back as long as you admit Trump is a loser and you’re ashamed for ever supporting him,” isn’t the way to win people back into your fold.

Just as it wasn’t in November 2016.  Rawr!  Some people wrote about that back then, but the details escape me…

[Republicans] gave us the Patriot Act, the TSA and more, which has resulted in mass surveillance and the de facto criminalization of ordinary Americans.

Democrats were supposedly worse, but actually I’m not so sure after looking at the results. Maybe had we suffered through Al Gore or John Kerry, the Republicans could have found better candidates or a different route to victory besides unfettered globalism and warmongering and empty promises and lies.

This is the accelerationist argument, which is not entirely without merit — I find myself making it from time to time.  But in general, it’s too close to “Win by Losing!” which we *also* got more than enough of.

It’s only worthwhile in hindsight, so the point is taken.

However, the argument of the lesser evil if it’s between say, Mike Pence and Tulsi Gabbard doesn’t hold up.

My issues are freedom first, America first and killing off, politically, these phonies first.
In other words, the things I disagree about with Tulsi, are not as pressing as the things I disagree about with Pence. Plus, with Pence, we would get the wrong kind of polarization, while Tulsi would scare the bejezus out of all the right people.

Tulsi-Pence.  As Eve said to Adam…

That’s a suspiciously equal pairing, as Pence has the grudge baggage for folks like us, and is the weak link used by Obama to get rid of Flynn.  Obviously, canning Flynn was Trump’s call, but Pence provided the crucial “last guy he listened to” input in that case.

Getting rid of Flynn was the Trump administration’s Original Sin, and we’ve all been paying dearly for it ever since.  Thanks, Mike “thirty” Pence.

Pure BS. Trump was undercut by NT pond scum and RINO twits. That is fact, but he is still a billionaire and still has Melania. He is not a victim.

Liz Cheney is a liar. We have it on video. But stay in your bubble. It’s best for all of us.

How exactly is Liz Cheney a liar? If you have it on video, please provide a link to it.

The link has been posted multiple times from multiple sources and not always by me. Further proof that you never seriously look at anything. Go look for it.

These idiots nominated John McCain and then Mitt Romney, who have since been uncovered as frauds and poseurs. Then, a large faction of GOP insiders wanted to push Jeb Bush on us – as though he could win. LOL. As though he just happened to have the same last name by coincidence.

You mean like “Republicans for Katie Hobbs for Governor” in Arizona if Kari Lake wins? ;) We flipped Arizona in the 2020 election by voting against Trump, we will do it again for a Trump clone.

Sounds like you have delusions of relevance.

Who cares? If the country is stupid enough to vote for Biden, it will get what it deserves, and is getting it now. If you want to take a large share the blame, so be it. If you are treated with contempt by those with the brains not to have voted for Biden, you earned it.

Do you want me to remove my comment? If so, I will.

    What we expect to happen:

“Okay, guys! The primary contest is over! Now, onward to election day where we’ll beat the bloody Democrats!”

    What we get instead:

“Stupid proles! You chose the wrong candidate! Now I’ll have to vote for the Democrats to teach you all a lesson!”

    Guys.

    Pretend there’s an ignore button.

    Please.

This could have been an interesting thread.  But it’s not.  It’s Boring, Repetitive, and Tense.  (LOL.)

And there’d be almost nothing left of it if there actually were an “ignore” button–for those that pressed it–that zapped every comment that Gary either made or which quotes a comment of his in a response by another. By my count, of the 111 comments on this thread to the point at which I’m writing this, 47 feature Gary, either via his own words, or in a response from someone else to something he’s said.  Only a few more than that number (54)–30 of them on the first page, where Gary’s name doesn’t appear once–don’t mention him at all.

What that means is that over the course of the past 81 comments, 47  (58%) have been either by, or about Gary.

I can’t for the life of me understand why he lives rent-free in so many of your heads.  Let the author of the post respond if he’s so inclinded (as he’s done rather well)  and show everybody that Gary isn’t “who we are” and then move on.

You really can’t blame Gary, when you elevate him to a place of such prominence, at the same time as you tweak him on posts where he isn’t, just trying to egg him into engaging so you can start this up again.  Please stop.

This thread is largely wrecked.  Some of the fault is Gary’s. But not all of it.

No. I think they’re still manufacturing votes.

    As you wish.

FTR, there were two videos that were linked. The first was Cheney answering a question about whether Trump had requested National Guard protection prior to Jan. 6. She made a claim about acting SecDef Chris Miller’s testimony. That claim was contradicted by both Kash Patel and Miller who were under oath when making their statement to the “committee”. Of course, they weren’t under oath when being interviewed by Sean Hannity. If I have to choose between Cheney on one side and Patel and Miller on the other, I will believe Patel and Miller.

Those videos have been posted in other threads by other people.

Liz Cheney’s father: Donald Trump is worse than Hitler.

“In our nation’s 246 year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,”

I mean, Hitler was an individual, and Hitler was a threat to our Republic, so…

I guess also, Aaron Burr, George Soros, Woodrow Wilson, Frank Stallone, Vladimir Putin, Lee Harvey Oswald, Robert E. Lee, William Jennings Bryan, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg … all minor threats to their Republic than Donald Trump.

I think what this ad really means  is she’s given up.  A re-election ad should be about her service to her constituents and how her agenda will benefit them. This isn’t a campaign ad, it’s branding for her post-elective career.

Better to stay silent than to reveal yourself a steaming pile excrement. Notice the evil look in that man’s eyes. I regret I ever thought otherwise of him.
