Healthcare maven James C. Capretta joins Jay and Mona this week to clarify the ins and outs (okay, mostly outs) of Obamacare and to suggest a Republican alternative. Jay and Mona contemplate the scaffolding of lies upon which the law was built. They then consider whether there’s been a sudden upsurge of racism in America – after all, Obama’s approval ratings are down!

Though the president’s capacity to damage America is diminished, his ability to sow chaos around the world is not. Jay and Mona look at Iran and more.

There are reminiscences of Bush’s choices to receive the Medal of Freedom, and a well-placed swipe at Picasso from Shostakovich. Plus: What do Aussies do to keep kids away from McDonalds?

Technical difficulties.  This is messed up, too.  Same problems as I encountered trying to get hold of the GLoP podcast (see comments).

    Breakfast getting cold.

Another great podcast this week. I’m glad Mona and Jay had James Capretta on. His National Affairs piece outlining the 7 pillars of conservative health care reform ought to be required reading among our policy makers.

Hey! I like Need to Know‘s new avatar!

    I think it works.

    The calculus is plain:

Republican Plan:  Every individual, except married on odd days, will receive a non-fungible tax credit redeemable on intrastate exchange forums. Subject to variable sunspot activity. Insert slot A into tab b on alternate wednesdays. Subtract line 22 from line 48. Means testing will be applied to Lutheran Libertarians (sorry Mollie). Choose one from column A and one from column B, add 75 cents for eggroll [and so on]

    Democrat Plan:  FREE STUFF!!!

It’s going to be a very heavy lift.

Obamacare is “the most comprehensive political failure” ever?  How about that thing called “Iran”?  Obama seems bent on topping himself.  (Can one “bottom” oneself?)

Loving the Jay and Mona podcasts. True Republicans, but if not Establishment Republican, then maybe in the new category, Brylcreem Republican.

Sometimes Bull-in-China Shop strategy is best, and at other times, Brylcreem strategy works as in a “little dab will do ya”.

What happens with role reversal? What happens when Mr. Bull-in-Chinashop belittles those who like Cruz? Or when McCarthy decides to do the Bull-in-Chinashop on immigration without border security when he had the Brylcreem strategy during the Ocare funding battle?

What did you change about the MP3 files?  First GLoP and now NtK files won’t accept changes to properties.

  8. Other than the logo, nothing has changed (as far as I know).

Thanks for the blast from Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 final movement!  The piece is so emotionally raw, with constant dissonance from upper register instruments in perpetual minor key that my wife refuses to listen to it.  I suppose it says something about me that I like it, particularly Bernstein’s version that keeps accelerating to the end.
