Golf serves the same purpose as the cigar bar on a cruise ship, which I know James enjoys -cigars, conversation . camaraderie, along with a nice  walk in the open air. As long as you’re not worried about scores and winning, etc.

I lived near Rochester, NY (average annual snowfall about 100 inches) for 18 years. I now appreciate “snow management.” I always contracted out clearing my driveway. When I first moved there (from coastal southern California) I was baffled why the contractor moved snow from and to certain places. But then I realized, especially if we were expecting more snow soon, why. Placement was either to avoid creating what would be an even bigger pile to move later, or to create room for putting the expected not yet fallen snow. The town plows would do “snow management” too if multiple snowfalls were coming in rapid succession. After the first snowfall was plowed (so there were snow berms along the side of the road, they would come by with a road grader with the blade a few feet in the air to move the top part of the roadside snow berms farther off to the side of the road so that when the plow came through on the later snowfall, the plowed snow had somewhere to go without having to lift it over the first berm.

While in the Rochester area a coworker who had always lived in the area expressed quite a liking for palm trees.

I asked, “Why? They’re completely useless as trees.”

She responded that it was less the tree itself and more about where the trees grow – very warm places often near oceans, and she liked being in such places!

I love the way you interweave the themes and bring them back around. Also, we’re older than pickleball. It’s about the same age as Rob Long.
