Dramatic Docs

You saw the pictures! The walls are finally closing in; or maybe it’s the floor that’ll finally move in on Trump! Or maybe everyone should cool their jets, as our guest Bill Barr might recommend. The former Attorney General joins us again to discuss what we know (and don’t know) about the latest legal troubles for the former president. Without getting ahead of the facts, Barr thinks through the search itself; partisanship in the Justice Department; and the kind of fighters the Republican Party needs.

And John O’Sullivan joins the gang at the top to remember his and Peter’s old foe, Mikhail Gorbachev. They dispel the lefty fantasy that Gorby was the real hero of the Cold War, but also give credit where it’s due. Plus, Peter recounts the time he got the man to scribble on a baseball.

Imagine what they could have talked about if they’d just held off a day instead of settling for Bill Barr, who has nothing new to say.

Yes indeed. We need a MAGA extremist on the pod. This guy would do:

    That guy was wonderful

I never post anything political to my Facebook feed because I try to keep the peace and I wish other “friends” wouldn’t bludgeon me with their political views. But . . . I posted that short Tiktok because I thought it was wonderful and eloquent and perfectly summed up my emotions. (Except maybe he was too nice to Biden.)

So far I’ve gotten very little reaction.

    @ drewinwisconsin — Suddenly Gina Carano’s comparing present-day America with Germany in the 1930’s doesn’t seem so fat-fetched …

Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…. even by children.

Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone because of their political views?

Yes, and as I pointed out in another post/thread, there are some people who would never believe it’s at all similar until there are actually people being put into railroad cars and taken to death camps. And even then, if there were just the slightest difference, like maybe people are being herded into freight trucks instead of railroad freight CARS, they’ll claim that means it’s totally different.

you mean someone like Jonah Goldberg?  He’d make that claim.  Snarkly pointing out that these are 40 ft freightliner trailers Taras, you dumb rube!  The Nazis obviously used railcars.  And the gas today?  totally different than that 1940s colored gas.

Really great job holding Barr accountable for becoming a stalwart defender of the self-evidently corrupt DOJ/FBI. “They we’re just following orders!” Well done. Seriously. So glad you didn’t lob him softballs like “how can Republicans get past Trump?” /s

Look, I get it now: you guys are Peacetime Conservatives. You’re sheep in sheep’s clothing. You like to rub shoulders and chortle with the Republican and Conservative Establishment, maybe hem and haw a bit about unfair treatment of conservatives (but definitely not including any of the non-violent January 6 political prisoners), and ignore the fact that the DOJ/FBI and interagency have become the enforcement arm of the Democrat Party.  Now I know who you are and how inadequate you are for the times we live in. Oh, and a special master was just appointed for the MaL raid, so looks like Barr was talking out his a$$. Shocking.

Barr legitimately headed off a coup during the BLM riots in May of 2020.  He also squelched most of the DOJs anti-Trump efforts while he was Attorney General.  I’m a bit unsure what to make of Barr’s current soft ant-Trump tour.  Barr clearly knows what’s going on beneath the narrative.  He’s the consummate insider by his pedigree and is clearly not ideologically aligned with populist conservatism.  I think he is trying to protect the system from itself.  He’s not a nefarious actor, but he’s in the way, now.

Remind me again the list of govt officials AG Bill Barr succeeded in prosecuting and jailing for a significant time?

There was always that wink and a nod that they were coming.

Well, he did ensure Lon Horiuchi was prosecuted for the murder of Vicky Weaver, shot by the FBI sniper as she held her baby in her arms.

Oh, wait, he was a key part of the official cover-up, ensuring government agents could continue suppressing conservative dissent with extreme prejudice.

Donald Trump is not his own worst enemy. Donald Trump’s worst enemies include his own attorney general, members of his own party, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which has crossed the line. Whatever special tasks the FBI has planned, Bill Barr will be there to back them up, just as he did with FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi. The defender of the deep state, at its worst, can be no friend of the people.

    A few things.

    A. Does the president have the power to legally declassify documents. Or not? And there’s no ex-post facto reclassification.

    B. This was a Judge’s assistant, a magistrate, and a clearly biased one at that, who issued a blanket search warrant. How is that constitutional, legal?

    C. Nice snark everyobody on Trump’s lawyers. Well, It’d nice to hear a little snark from Bill & the panel on the professional & personal attacks made on lawyers who deign to represent Trump or any poor dumb slob associated with MAGA. Maybe there’s a connection here.

    D. As for these Professional, patriotic DOJ & FBI staff, witness the leaks, the lies, the conspiracy theories foisted upon us the past six years and I think you have your answer as to the motive for this raid.

As one of thirteen million reformed NeverTrumpers who voted for the man in 2020, its becoming more and more clear who has a stake in the perpetuation of a fundamentally corrupt administrative State. Hint- They’re not all Democrats

I too was a Never Trumper in 2016.  I listened to the likes of David French, Mona Charen and Jay Nordlinger in forming that opinion.  Right after the election I was shocked by the idea of Russian Collusion.  It didn’t take long, however, to see the Russian Collusion narrative as the hoax it was.  It didn’t take a lot of work to see the deep state – the FBI in particular – as a tool for the Democrat party.  The one thing about Trump is he exposed a lot of rot.  Thinkers I respected like French, Charen, Nordlinger I now realize can’t see reality from their bubbles.  I changed my mind about Trump early in his presidency they couldn’t even though the facts demanded a second look.  By 2020 I told friends I would crawl over broken glass to vote to re-elect Trump.   Now that he’s out of power, I’m certainly wanting someone with the strengths of Trump (he’s a fighter), but with more discipline and more savvy regarding getting things done in Washington.  As a MAGA and TEA partier, I know we have a daunting task ahead of us.  After all, we have Big Tech, MSM, Education Establishments, Public Employee Unions and more all working for the Democrats and against us. Nevertheless, we have no choice but to win.

That’s because it’s Trump, and there is nobody else in the entire country who has been so demonized — by our own government.

I mean, think about that. A former President, rightfully elected who got a historic number of votes in 2020 (and probably won) is treated — by the incoming regime — as the equivalent of Satan himself. They have whipped up so much hatred against him. And again, it’s our own government doing it.

    That is astounding.

And it’s also destructive to the continuance of the nation.

I think Hillary was found to be very dislikable — even hate-worthy — by millions of people who figured Joe Biden is not great, but acceptable.  And very few people who are not Republicans believe Joe Biden is a pedophile.

America is a Republican country with Democratic media.  When the media think the Dems already have it won, as in 1988 and 2016, they don’t put out a maximum effort for them, and the Republicans can win.

In the next elections — 1992 and 2020 — the media buckled down and made sure the Democrats won.

Remember, when you talk about Biden being more “likable” than Hillary, you mean how they are portrayed in the media.

They should have seen the sniffing clips from the various events while he was Vice President, but I doubt the press highlighted any of them. I’m sure none of them know about Ashley’s diary.

Trump has to be the greatest politician in US history. He increased his vote total by 13 million from 2016 and increased the Democrat turnout by 12 million. No wonder he is feared and has to have the full weight of the government thrown against him. A lot of rice bowls are threatened.

I vaguely recall reading about a study some group did 20 or so years ago where they attempted to adjust public opinion for the effects of media bias, and found that in the absence of said media bias, the country on average would vote about like the state of Utah does.

I have absolutely no memory of what their methodology was, or how they came to that conclusion, or if it had any credibility at all.

I’m reminded of an old Bertrand Russell quote.

I once saw a photograph of a large herd of wild elephants in Central Africa seeing an airplane for the first time, and all in a state of wild collective terror… As, however, there were no journalists among them, the terror died down when the airplane was out of sight.
