Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 40 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
At the Ricochet Podcast Summit, Jay’s guest was Nury A. Turkel, who had a grim and horrifying topic to discuss: a new gulag in China, which contains up to a million Uyghurs (a Turkic minority). Turkel himself is a Uyghur American. This issue is personal, national, and international, all three. Something to know about, in a world pregnant with horrors.

Too sad. And all we can do is spread the word.
Jay,
The Uyghurs are now in the crosshairs of the Marxist regime. They will get the full force of a mindless totalitarian state intent on eliminating a ‘problem people’. As Obama’s first press secretary was so fond of saying (and only Gd knows why he would use a Stalinist phrase that implied genocide) “they are on the wrong side of history”.
I am as concerned as you are. However, I must clear the air. While 3-400,000,000 Chinese along the coast have experienced a little capitalist prosperity, the vast majority of Chinese in the interior live in grinding poverty under the boot of a police state. While the idiot Thomas L. Friedman of the Times has been touting the Chinese State for the last 25 years, The People’s Republic has had a massive gulag system mostly in the interior which has been enslaving, torturing, and killing 10s of millions of people. Yes, even ethnic Chinese are in slave labor camps and have been the whole time.
I am certainly concerned about the Uyghurs but if this is going to be another PC excursion into ethnic prejudice and ‘the other’ then count me out. This is the result of a totalitarian Marxist state exercising its inevitable absolute control. If absolute power corrupts absolutely then absolute control kills absolutely.
China needs to be free. Not just the Uyghurs but the whole thing.
Regards,
Jim
