Apparently the Biden administration is far more incompetent than even its enemies believed; perhaps a side effect of making appointments to influential positions based on race and sexual orientation, rather than competence.

It will be interesting to watch the media try to shift the blame onto Donald Trump.  I expect The Bulwark to get especially ingenious.

I would have liked to hear more from Amber Smith about what the Trump administration‘s “conditions-based” withdrawal plan would have looked like.  My understanding is that American withdrawal was predicated on good behavior from the Taliban.

There was, after all, no urgency.  Not after 20 years.

Smith foresees China emboldened to crush Taiwan militarily.  Another flashpoint she doesn’t mention is Ukraine, where Putin may grab the southeast coast, giving him a “land bridge” to Crimea.
