QOTD: “Lucky you” (Harry Potter)
I don’t know how many Harry Potter fans are on Ricochet, considering that I’ve never seen a post about it before, but as a typical millennial, it’s probably my favorite book series. I’m currently listening to them on audiobook for the first time (the Jim Dale versions), and I recently finished book 5, Order of the Phoenix. As always, this particular conversation between Ginny and Harry jumped out at me, and since it includes one of my favorite quotes from the entire series, I thought I’d share:
“We wanted to talk to you, Harry,” said Ginny, “but as you’ve been hiding ever since we got back–”
“I didn’t want anyone to talk to me,” said Harry, who was feeling more and more nettled.
“Well, that was a bit stupid of you,” said Ginny angrily, “seeing as you don’t know anyone but me who’s been possessed by You-Know-Who, and I can tell you how it feels.”
Harry remained quite still as the impact of these words hit him. Then he turned on the spot to face her.
“I forgot,” he said.
“Lucky you,” said Ginny coolly.
For anyone who needs a reminder, this takes place shortly after Harry, Hermione, and the Weasley children return to the Burrow around Christmas after Harry has the dream/vision about Mr. Weasley being attacked by Nagini. Arthur is found and taken to the hospital, but Harry withdraws from everyone around him out of fear that Voldemort is going to use him to hurt someone he cares about.
One reason I love this quote so much is just because of the emotional impact; the reminder of what Ginny went through during Chamber of Secrets three years before, and how much that must still haunt her (something Harry doesn’t really think about until this moment, and so neither do we). However, another great thing about this conversation, and the book in general, is that Ginny is really starting to become a central character. She’s more involved in the plot of the books now, and we get to see highlighted the fiery and bold personality that makes her such a fantastic character. In fact, my favorite thing about the Harry Potter series is the development of so many engrossing and complex characters!
If you’ve only ever watched the movies, Book Ginny is so much better than Movie Ginny. Book Ginny would never tie Harry’s shoes for him; unless she was tying them together! 😂

Honestly, I was kind of shipping him and Luna for a time.
I finally gave in and bought the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and it was very good. I had always felt a bit sorry for Draco Malfoy, and he comes across much different in Cursed Child. He was cursed with bad parents, especially his father. He did not have an easy life after leaving school; his wife died of what sounds like leukemia, and he was responsible for raising his son, Scorpius, alone.
I did want to listen to the Stephen Fry versions but couldn’t find them… and now I’m kind of glad, because I do love Jim Dale’s. Even if he does leave off the “t” in Voldemort for the first three books. 😂
I loved the idea of Harry marrying Ginny and finally being part of a family before I even read or watched a single Harry Potter.
I wish Neville and Luna were really a thing and it wasn’t only in the movie. Oh well.
I did not like Cursed Child much at all, but I did enjoy the Harry and Draco interactions, and love the idea of their children becoming friends.
