Well, this is a bit of a surprise…Bill and Melinda Gates announce divorce after 27 years of marriage. In case that’s behind the paywall, here’s another report: Bill and Melinda Gates Divorce. I must say, I find their stated reason, that (emphasis added):
After a great deal of thought and a lot of work, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.
We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue to work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.
…rather selfish.
You don’t believe you can….? You’re two of the richest, and supposedly smartest, people in the world. So figure out how to, why don’t ‘cha? And then make it work.
Crimenutely.
It ain’t, as they say, rocket science. (That’s Elon Musk’s department). Jeff Bezos has already cornered the “act like a horny frat boy” angle. So perhaps this is all they could come up with.
I don’t want to go all movie review on you, but this so reminds me of why I disliked LaLaLand so much.

Bill tried fixing the marriage by turning Her off, but He couldn’t turn Her back on.
I am sad about this parting of the ways after 27 years. Something tells me there is another person involved here as is the case in so many divorces in marriages that have lasted a long time — either she has someone waiting in the wings or he does. Such a shame, especially for their children. A lady who lives in my condo complex has a son-in-law who is their personal chef and flies all over the world with them to their various homes. She has always said they are the nicest of families.
Maybe she can $core some of the future Foundation money and spare us from his goal to run everybody’s life.
They’re pikers. 27 years I could do standing on my head.
I am of the opinion that these are evil people.
Not upholding their marriage vow’s is Nothing.
I frankly hope it grows ugly as all hell and she out’s him. Not likely though. “Honor amongst villain’s” and all.

Wow! Ok – this is a shock. I’m not sure why because I know nothing about them, as individuals or how they are as a married couple, and I pass no judgement. I looked up Melinda Gates business and it is social justice off the charts. We all know Bill Gates is into many things that I find very bizarre – but this is certainly interesting. Here is Melinda’s company:

Given their money, their power and their influence, could any of this be driving the current in our country right now?
It also could be a spiritual intervention, by the grace of God – maybe time for the both of them to look at their lives individually and as a family and clean things up?
My opinion is that what came between them was his ego. Maybe she could not get with his program of population control, in all its manifestations. He thinks he knows how to run the world, and wants the chance to do it. Maybe she doesn’t think he should.
I fall towards the “more in sorrow than in anger” side, myself. I have no idea if this was Bill’s idea, or Melinda’s doing, if there’s a third and/or fourth party involved, or if they just woke up one morning, realized the thrill had been gone for quite some time, and threw in the towel.
Like @goldwaterwoman, I’ve heard only good things about the Gates family, and have told the story here before about annual trips to Seattle for meetings with a computerized patient record company in the 1990s. A feature of such visits was a boat trip up and down Lake Washington, during the course of which we went past the Gates estate, and the tour guide always made a point of saying what good neighbors they were and how well thought of, and that Bill could often be seen on the playground, playing with his kids.
I’m not going down the “evil” route over this, although I have no difficulty throwing out a word such as “wrong.” And it is disappointing to see a couple who’s given every appearance of, and should have been, growing together for almost 30 years suddenly tear themselves asunder in pursuit of what sound very much like selfish ends, and to frame it as if that’s perfectly OK. Of course, it’s not OK.

Maybe because they don’t practice what they preach? I mean, really, how could they have THREE children???
I have heard from several people whose parents divorced after the children became adults that they (the children) suffered heavily from such a divorce. They explained that in a way the later in life divorce of their parents retroactively rips apart their memories of their own childhood.
Selfish indeed.
They mostly want population control in the developing world. The people they associate with at Davos only want the “control” part here.
Your report also explains for me why there was a Babylon Bee piece. I was baffled why Babylon Bee had anything about a Gates divorce.

Bill Gates got the blue screen of death on his marriage. He closed all of Melinda’s windows and hit CTL-ALT-DEL but nothing worked. Wonder if he tried rebooting her in safe mode?
That’s what he gets for listening to his own helpline.
