Quote of the Day: Rush Limbaugh on the “Press” in America
This paragraph appears at the end of the December 2020 issue of the Limbaugh Letter, in an article entitled “American Pravda: Our Soviet-style Media”. Rush quotes numerous publications, in sections titled “Disinformation”, “Outright Lies”, “Race Propaganda”, “Orange Man Bad”, “Orange Man Voters Bad”, “Lies of Omission”, and “No-Fraud Gaslighting.”.
You have to wonder how these so-called journalists sleep at night, with all their intentional deception, disinformation, fabrication, and distortions to serve the agenda of the hard-left Democrat Party. In the old totalitarian USSR, reporters didn’t have a choice; but the American Pravda drive-bys do. Of their own free will they’ve surrendered their talents, their objectivity, their spirit of free inquiry, and even their curiosity to the socialist hive mind; they have become the totalitarians.
He definitely has their number, which is logical since they have been his sworn enemy for over 30 years now.

This is the Quote of the Day, an ongoing project to help get more voices on the site. It can be the easiest way to start a conversation on Ricochet. (Some people do put in a lot more effort, of course.) Our sign-up sheet for December is here and still has four openings starting with Christmas Eve. We welcome new participants and new members to Ricochet to share their favorite quotations.
Another ongoing project to encourage new voices is our Group Writing Project. December’s theme is ‘Tis the Season. If you’re looking to share your own thoughts rather than those of others and have some ideas about the holiday(s) season we are entering, why not sign up there?
I first heard him when I returned to the US about 24 years ago. While I agreed with him, I wasn’t particularly impressed. I think he was cutting himself a notch, but he grew, learned and took it all very seriously, is bright as hell, and now has more insights than any other journalist, radio or tv host. Hope he hangs on for years. We need him.
Rush is always worth a listen.
They sleep at night just fine. They sure they’re doing the Lord’s work. Does anyone think Mao or Stalin had trouble sleeping at night?
Did the insincerity of journalism happen recently and all of a sudden? I think that Journalism never was the shining star they’re played in movies; that’s a personal cynicism developed recently when their unambiguous hypocrisy exposed them for what they are. Their integrity is secured by the very first amendment, but there is no integrity to secure anymore – if there ever was any. Which prompts some thoughtful reflection on the stability of the Bill of Rights.
There is at least one journalist on the left who insists on being able to write independently. Glenn Greenwald was prevented from writing about the Hunter Biden scandal in October by the editors on the site he founded (Intercept), has since separated himself from that site and currently writes on an independent pay site and appears to be practicing independent journalism supported by subscribers.
Actually, all tyrants have some amount of trouble sleeping at night. They know that they are in constant danger of being overthrown, either by their people (who are way more numerous than they are), or, more often, by those very close to them, who always feel that they are not partaking enough in the tyrant’s power. Very few tyrants die natural deaths-many more are assassinated, or violently overthrown by their subjects. Even Xi Jinping has widespread opposition in Communist China, and he constantly has to watch his back. Why do you think Stalin and Xi conducted all those purges of their own people? Fear. They can never let their guard down for a minute.
Okay but our home-grown tyrants are too stupid and arrogant to know they’re in danger. Granted, the governor of Michigan was allegedly targeted by some wingnuts but I bet she didn’t think she was in any danger until that point. They’re always the last to know that they’ll be the first ones up against the wall.
No. It has always been thus. In the US in recent decades the naked partisanship of all journalism in all times and all places had been covered with a veneer of ‘objectivity’ and ‘truth’ (claims or aspirations a moment’s thought would reject as impossible in this fallen world), which has led to a virtual monoculture of ‘professional’ journalists in service of the ruling class. As the ruling class sees left-liberalism in their (current) interests, this is what you see from (US) journalists, ‘truth’, ‘objectivity’ and ‘balance’ – which have never been true journalistic values – be damned.
Stop assuming what journalists say is, or was intended to be, true, and their power is destroyed.
Here is a kernel of self-admitted Mother Jones policy from the fringe…. but I think the guy expesses the more hidden attitudes we have to continue to watch for in the “main” press:
https://www.motherjones.com/media/2020/12/the-media-will-help-rehabilitate-trumps-loyalists/
[emphasis added]
This is key. (There is an old Crichton (?) [quote] along these lines. I’ll have to find it later today.)
It’s also hubris… the Left eats their own but I will be the exception
Who saved Gretchen from the big bad wolves? FBI???!!!
Rehabilitate?
Typical mother jones
Mother Jones isn’t pretending to be a ‘moderate’
What Rush said in 1988 is more true today.
Most if not all of his predictions about the cultural Left and Democrats have been true.
The Green movement is a pretext for Marxism.
Climate change is not a science, it’s a bunch of computer models with lots of variables and lots of questionable assumptions.
