Tom Ridge Sniffs Joe Biden’s Hair

Former (Republican) Pennsylvania Governor and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge has endorsed Joe Biden. Ridge has apparently never been enthralled by — first candidate and then President Trump — because “civility and respect, not … childish name-calling and [T]witter tirades.”

Yes, Biden is truly civil and respectful. Just ask Justice Clarence Thomas. If you want to be disgusted by the electronic lynching conducted by a “civil and respectful” man read through Ann Althouse’s post this morning.

Of course, Ridge assures us that “Vice President Biden and I both know that supporting his candidacy now certainly won’t dissuade me from speaking out later when I disagree with him.” Wow, that will be comforting under a Harris-AOC Administration.

Former Governor Ridge urges us to “put country over party.” Is that what Joe Biden is doing?

I am completely fed up with NT “Republicans” signing up for the Progressive agenda because of President Trump’s personal style. Tell us which policies that Trump has implemented that they would prefer the Democrat agenda instead.

The only ones I can think of are war over peace and uni-party decorum based on decades-long accommodations of personal trough gorging. I recall a statement made by a government executive upon the retirement of a government worker going to work for a federal contractor: “He will be continuing to eat from the same trough, but he is going to the end where the swill is richer.”

Tom Ridge is and has been in the same trough with Joe Biden for decades. Nothing must be permitted to endanger the trough.

But in 2020, Kasich, Ridge and I have endorsed Biden over Trump.

Serious question. Exactly what bloc of voters is moved by any of those endorsements?

Traditional Reagan Republicans who haven’t jumped on the Trump Train, and want to see Reaganism restored.

You mean Traditional Bush I Republicans that pretended to be Traditional Reagans until the scam was up and they picked one of the only 3 presidents to lose re-election? Those Republicans?

Historical models heavily favor Donald Trump. In the past one hundred years, only three presidents that have stood for re-election have been turned out of office. Hoover, Carter, and Bush. All three had the same problem. The coalition that had elected them broke up. In Hoover’s case, the old Post-Civil War Republican party broke up. In Carter’s, the Dixie-crats finally called it a day. And Papa Bush was elected by Reagan’s coalition and then betrayed them so badly that Ross Perrot was able to shave off 30% of Right-wing vote thus assuring George Bush’s defeat.

Thank you for making my point. If Trump is defeated, then his political brand dies. Trump’s malfeasance with COVID-19, and the knowledge that he must repay $300 million in debts in the next three years to unknown people who would leave him open to blackmail or influence will defeat Trump, along with the litany of Birtherism, lack of respect for McCain and veterans, insensitivity in Charlottesville, Obstruction of Justice, and Bribery of Ukraine.

You aren’t a Reagan Republican. You are the same inept politico that hated Reagan and elevated Bush 1. Trump has a better chance of winning reelection because his coalition is growing, not shrinking.

To take political advise from you or anyone who thinks Bush was Reagan’s third term is taking advice from fools.

I proudly voted for Ronald Reagan twice.  I voted for H.W. in 1988, but I voted Libertarian in 1992 because H.W. had betrayed the Reagan Revolution.

All of which is great, along with judges. The problem is not Trump’s policies, but Trump himself.

Hitler was a monogamous, teetolaling, non-smoker, vegetarian (since he loved animals). Churchill was a smoker, drinker, etc. FDR was a philanderer who also drank and smoked. Character matters? Policies don’t? Okay. We know what side you’d fall on for WWII.

I think that you have forgotten that I promoted “The Splendid and the Vile” as the best book of the year.

It doesn’t matter, Gary. Character matters, and FDR and Churchill didn’t have it, while Hitler did.

Assume a political world where Trump joins Hoover, Carter and H.W. Bush as only the fourth president in over 100 years to not be re-elected, with Trump and Trumpism being completely discredited. Where will Republicans go? They will go somewhere, but with Trump and Trumpism being exposed as a toxic brand, it is highly unlikely that they will return to Trump and Trumpism. If Trump is prosecuted for tax fraud, this only increases the stink around him. Trump is facing dozens of lawsuits that have been stayed while he was President. They will start to go to trial. Trumps chickens will have come home to roost.

Will you stay loyal to the Trump Lost Cause? If so, I predict that it will be very lonely.

Americans hate losers, and a Trump will be exposed as a Loser.

I assume that there is a place for a sunny, optimistic Republican who appeals to our better angels. It is about time, after five years of a snarling Trump.

So, to boil down what you said:

    1. Americans love a winner and hate a loser
    2. Trump’s policies have been winning ones; if we give him four more years, there will be so much winning it will be impossible to deny that they are winning ones.
    3. You hate Trump so much that you would rather see the US burn to the ground than to see Trump win.
    4. The only way to turn Trump into a loser is to turn the US over to Biden and his Marxist agenda. That will make people see Trump as a loser.

    Got it.
