Zero Tolerance

To be clear on our longstanding corporate policy, Goodyear has zero tolerance for any forms of harassment or discrimination. To enable a work environment free of those, we ask that associates refrain from workplace expressions in support of political campaigning for any candidate or political party, as well as similar forms of advocacy that fall outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues.

Sir?

Yes, Jose?

Can I wear a Brown Lives Matter pin?

Yes, of course.

Cool! It’s in the shape of a star and has the badge number of my uncle, Deputy Allejandro Chavez, who was murdered last year.

Uh, well, I . . .

Sir, Sir!

Yes, Lin?

How about an Asian Grades Matter t-shirt?

What does that mean?

It highlights the systematic racial injustice and inequity that discriminates against Asians being admitted to elite colleges.

That may be a problem.

Why? To quote the policy, it is “a racial justice and equality issue.”

That’s a good question. I’ll get back to you on that.

Sir?

Clyde?

Native American Lives Matter?

Yes.

How about Inuit Lives Matter?

Yes.

Navajo Lives Matter?

Yes!

Zuni Lives Matter?

Yes!

Papago Lives Matter?

Yes!!

Uyghur Lives Matter?

Yes, yes, yes!!  All tribes matter!

 Sir?

Tamika?

How about All Black Lives Matter?

Yes, of course. It means the same thing as Black Lives Matter, doesn’t it?

No, BLM only cares about Blacks killed by the police. All Black Lives Matter is concerned with all Black lives.

Well, Ok, I guess . . .

Including the unborn.

No, no, you can’t do that!

But Black babies are aborted at more than twice the rate of other races.  Isn’t that a “a racial justice and equality issue?”

Ah, Er, That’s . . . a . . . good . . .question, too.  I’ll see what corporate has to say.  Okay, this has been a . . .productive session.  Let’s break for lunch; be back at 1:00 for a presentation on how to sell rims.

Some audio has been captured from the Goodyear training session.

It is quoted at the link above.

“Some people may wish to express their views on social justice or inequity or equity issues such as black lives matter or LGBTQ pride on their face coverings, shirts or wristbands. That will be deemed approved because it applies with a zero-tolerance stance,” the speaker on the recording said during the meeting. “However if any associate wears all, blue, white lives matter shirts or face coverings, that will be not appropriate.”

It “applies” with the zero-policy stance, this illiterate says.

    He/she/they meant “complies.”

There’s a term for this – when a group wreaks violence to achieve their goals and will only stop when they are appeased with concessions. It’s called “terrorism.”

As Solzhenitsyn showed in Gulag Archipelago, it’s baked into the Marxist/Leninist cake from the getgo not just as the means to power but as the means of maintaining it.

Or you can go off the rails for a while and go from terrorism to a Reign of Terror as people lose more of their inhibitions (and guess what has been promoted by Hollywood and the mass media for years: disinhibition.)

The characteristic of the Left is that the ideas come from the extremes. Look at the “environmental” movement and you will see the notion that humanity is a plague upon the planet and the extinction of H. sapiens is necessary to “save the planet.” The more moderate position is that it’s just Western Civilization that has to go. That used to be extreme. The new Democrat mainstream position it that it only requires the Total Transformation of the United States of America for the seas to stop rising and the planet to begin to heal.

Rinse, repeat for any issue you like. The slightest political success then moves the Overton window more towards the extreme Left.

Yesterday, I got a marketing email from Walgreens, which, along with various promotions for various products, included a link to something about ‘structural racism.’

Maybe if the management of Walgreens is bored with running a drugstore chain, and want to be social analysts/activists instead, they should resign and let somebody else run Walgreens.  They don’t seem to have been doing all that good a job of it anyway, from what I’ve seen.

I got the same email. Needless to say I have unsubscribed from their mailings and they are “off the list” of places to shop. At least CVS hasn’t sent this type of crap out. My hospital system may as well have said the same thing when they did their “black lives matter” thing back in June. It was pretty much the same crap.

Found an article recently about how to handle the “woke workplace” and I bookmarked it on my computer at home. Will retrieve it later.

    Okay, found it.

How to Talk to Your Employers about Anti-Racism

It’s lengthy, but it’s got a lot of good information.

My hope is that if the wokerati win in November they will calm down for a while and if they lose they will go insane enough that push back will be easier.

Vox Day’s Corporate Cancer helped a friend whose workplace is going woke clarify how to think about this and decide what to do.

I don’t think @raxxalan‘s hope is that “if the wokerati win in November they will calm down for a while” is reality based. The DOJ will be in their hands, and will be renamed in reality if not on the sides of buildings as the Department of Social Justice.

I agree on that scale.  to clarify my comment a little.  I think if they win in November, which is unfortunately looking more likely, It will be incredibly bad and damaging for the country as a whole.   I think that many of the Never-Trump/ Trump Skeptical folks are way too optimistic  that the Democrats won’t be able to do lasting damage which will ensure their power against the push back against their overreach.  All and all I think it would be a disaster for the country.

On a human scale however at my company, I am not sure it wouldn’t calm down some.  The lefty’s will party hard and wake up with a hang over the next day.  They’ll go back to their smug self assurance that history is on their side and won’t feel the need to proselytize as much.  Eccentricities will be overlooked because they won’t be seen as personally dangerous in the new virtuous climate that is being ushered in.  The vast majority will go back to obsessing on non-political things.   A few of the more hard-core among them will keep pushing but the larger appetite for it will be slaked at least for a while, at the small scale of my workday world.  I can at least see this as a semi-plausible outcome.

True.  For it not to be effective one of two things need to happen.  First either the people running the organization have to stand up or enough people inside the organization have to stand up.   Neither is going to happen where I work, so what to do.   If it were really a life and death struggle I would be fighting back even if I knew I couldn’t win because in one sense you are going to die either way.  Fortunately for me it isn’t.  The only two things I could loose are my job and/or my integrity.  As I said there are lines I won’t cross because one is harder to replace than the other, but that doesn’t mean I have to engage in hopeless action.   If I have to engage before November, which is looking more likely,  I have to figure out what I want to accomplish and how to accomplish it.
