Things Conservatives Don’t Have to Do
As a relatively new convert, here are some burdensome tasks I’ve been glad to let go:
- Trying to convince myself (or others) that Trevor Noah or Amy Schumer are funny.
- Trying to believe or saying how great Michelle Obama looks or how much style she has.
- Trying to believe the veil/hijab/niqab are just fine and not proof of membership to a backward sect antithetical to Western values and culture.
- Watching the Oscars (or any awards ceremony).
- Believing that “educated” people know things (burden of proof is on them and it isn’t an Ivy League diploma).
- Feeling sorry for people.
Feel free to add!

I was pretty much born this way, so I don’t know what burdens the other side has to carry. Being impervious to the lessons of history?
Having to keep on the latest social justice fads
Oooh! Having to keep up on who has been canceled so you can’t patronize them in any way. That’s hard.
And so time consuming. One wonders where they find time to
burn and riotpeacefully protest. The most liberating moment in my conservative evolution is when I stopped worrying about being cool.
Those tasks are not really burdensome are they?
How about – trying to convince myself that professional sports teams are noble for supporting
AntifaBLM.Welcome to the club!
Courtesy of husband: having to like Serena Williams, say how beautiful and inspiring she is, not notice that she behaves disgracefully, looks awful and has gained about 150 lbs over the past 10 yrs.
Totally! 🤣🤣
But it is all muscle. Steroid use can do that.
Right. That’s what I tell myself when I have an 8th pancake.
Believe all women! 🤣🤣
Having any respect for people who utter the phrase “conspiracy theory” as the first defense of any speculation things might not be entirely as reported.
(last night, watching the Epstein doc on Netflix with the wifey, some journo – Fox business(!) – actually said Epstein’s death, attributed to something other than suicide, was a conspiracy theory. Meanwhile the entire documentary was about a massive conspiracy ‘theory’.)
– believing that every time some jerk goes outside with a handwritten poster we are reliving the civil rights era, and you are on the “Good Side” (naturally).
– pretending to be afraid of “cops”;
– hoping no one calls you out on your hypocrisy.
And various corporations. Don’t forget them.
Pretend that green energy is viable.
Yeah, I can’t ever remember thinking any differently so I must assume I was born this way.
@tocqueville, now you can have a truck.
– pretending all families are equal.
We don’t have to pretend that a man who thinks he’s a woman (or vice versa) is actually a woman.
Thinking that history has a right side
The comedians Amy Schumer stole material from are funny.
The mental gymnastics of trying to figure out how to orient yourself in a relativistic world without foundational Truth.
See August 5 Ricochet post “Give Me Relativism Or Give Me Death” by @richardfulmer , and especially comment #1 by @rightangles .
It’s pretty nice not to have to like Megan Rapinoe.
Or an “arc”
Tasks it is good to let go:
Having to disregard economic reality on all of the following issues:
Having to call women who aborted their own offspring “brave”
Having to show any deference for a liberal arts degree from some hoity-toity school like Williams or Amhearst or really, any modern variation thereof…
Being a conservative is so freeing!
Believe rich people got rich by stealing from poor people.
Believe that government can solve all problems
Pretending that the fundamental and essential differences between men and women don’t exist, i.e. that at guy in a dress who calls himself “Desiree” should be treated like a woman or a woman who dresses like a male biker and calles herself “Jake” should be treated like a man.
As a conservative your are free from the following burdens:
Supporting athletes who disrespect our flag and our nation . . .
