Hail to the Rednecks
That’s right. The Washington Rednecks – A perfect change up. I’m a life-long, long-suffering fan, so I figure I’m allowed to weigh.
Just a few of the benefits:
- The team would instantly become America’s team and the favorite of every working man south of the Mason Dixon.
- It sticks a finger in the eye of the cancel culture legion.
- It shows that even a derogatory moniker can under some circumstances be endearing.
Not to mention the marketing bonanza. Touchdown Rednecks!

You can’t name them Washington anything. Washington has been cancelled. He owned slaves.
You can’t name them D.C anything. “C” stands for Columbia. “Columbia” is derived from Columbus. Columbus has been cancelled, because … hell, I can’t remember.
You can’t name the town Washington D.C. We need a new name. I propose Gooberville. Instead of sending your congressthing to Washington, you’ll be sending them to Gooberville.
Or you could move the Redskins to OKC. They’d take it as is. The woke would have to explain the need to rename the team to the Cherokees, and the Creeks, and the Commanche, and the Choctaws … and that’s just the Cs.
Why not? Except Washington DC is 90% black and the team fan base is probably 65% left-wing. You’ll have to move it somewhere.
There are rednecks in every state.
Its got my seal of approval.
“Send Dick Durbin Back to Washington” will probably end up winning his next election, but it could be close.
“Send Dick Durbin Back to Gooberville” ought to get 95% of the vote, easy.
Isn’t that where most of them come from anyway?
I thought it was going to be “Skins of Color.”
I didn’t believe it until I got stationed in Connecticut. Up there, I ran into a lot of rednecks. The only difference between up there and down here was the accent . . .
I was going with “Washington Jackboots,” but yours is better!
The New England Redneck AKA the Swamp Yankee.
“K Street Cucks”
I love love the idea of Gooberville.
This reminds me of a comment made by a radio personality, some time in the late 70’s – early 80’s when all kinds of ethnic jokes started being called out as offensive. He said, “I’ve found the one group that can be in a joke – white trash. Nobody is going to say, ‘Well, I’m white trash and I resent that joke.'”
A couple years ago, the last time this renaming thing came up, someone in the peanut gallery suggested that they continue to be called Redskins, but change the mascot to a red potato.
As an occasional (They’re #2 behind the Saints) Cowboys fan, I must object, as the Redskins are not allowed to do anything awesome.
If the Redskins would go with the potato, I would expect some other team to rename themselves the Mashers.
How about Washington Red Tape or the DC Deficits
The District Swampoodles gets my vote.
How about “The Goosesteppers”?
The name just begs for a Jimmy Buffet song . . .
Two more syllables and there would be one ready-made.
It is?
Heck, there are rednecks in Korea, trucker caps and all.
There might even be one in the office.
Can I get a “yeeHah?”
Yee haw y’all!
Re: reason 1
And support from men and women north of the Mason Dixon line too. I’m proudly a Connecticut Redneck.
Good story, except these days it seems like the people most upset about these “insulting team names” etc aren’t those people themselves. It’s mostly white liberals, in every case.
Just like the Indians regarding the Redskins…..or the Cleveland Indians, for that matter. Few of the Indians were offended at all.
이하!
To paraphrase the New York Times, “Sports team has ‘racist’ name, White liberal Women
affected mosthardest hit”.Edit: corrected
