Army Rolling in Homeland Defense
This is how we are not Italy. This is part of why we were ranked #1 in the world for pandemic preparedness. As Navy hospital ships prepare to leave their docks, Army field hospital units have been given deployment orders. Ride to the sound of the sirens?
Published in GeneralMoving on orders of @SecArmy, we've issued deployment orders to the 531st Hospital from Fort Campbell, KY, the 627th Hospital from Fort Carson, CO, & the 9th Hospital from Fort Hood, TX, to deploy to NY & WA to help contain #COVID19 & protect the nation.https://t.co/aMaUNK3SnK

This is also why Trump calls himself a wartime president.
I wonder if military med units train to deploy beds under real-world conditions like zoning restrictions, labor contracts, malpractice insurance requirements and board meetings.
You see, that’s the fun side of this. The military is a federal agency, acting in a national emergency. They can avoid these layers of BS, despite having their own powerpoint ninjas.
All of this while local mayors of many cities are ordering the police to stand down and not arrest burglary and /or any other non-violent but. nevertheless, mayhem inducing crimes.
I was pleased to learn that Carnival offered a pair of cruise ships to act as mobile hospitals. Many other companies and individuals have offered such aid.
The US is now the epicenter of the pandemic.
I got an email from the Army Personal Command (or whatever they call it these days) asking for volunteers from the retired reserves to be mobilized. They are mostly looking for medical specialties but also asked if anybody else might be interested. I sent them my resume, however, since my specialty is artillery it is unlikely I will get a call. But in the civilian world, I have done some work coordinating agencies in post-disaster response and am currently working a local response to the COVID Crises so who knows.
And jails letting prisoners go so they don’t get COVID-19 while locked up. Which is already increasing the crime rate.
And the Chinese supply chain issues are hitting the illegal drug industry, so that more and more addicts, including the homeless where that is a major issue, will be wanting to buy a shrinking supply of increasingly expensive recreational chemicals.
That’s the situation that led Tamara Keel to post a friend’s comment:
Tam notes:
Even if with G-d’s mercy the morgues aren’t necessary and police staffing stays up, we need to hope that people being home due to the lockdown helps mitigate the impact of the increased availability due to inmates being released from schools and other incarceration facilities and the increasing needs of the addicts who commit so much of the low level crime.
Just realize that the cops may not want to arrest anyone who says they have coronavirus both for their own protection and because the jails may not want them.
I’m boning up on ventilators right now. It’s true that we have tremendous capacity in our medical system. We will get through this.
Yes, albeit in many cases, not exactly anything resembling a modern hospital. And the “beds” might look more like cots or even stretchers. But they do work. They have ambulances, too, although some of them sort of chew up roads, if they use roads. And the training and equipment is oriented primarily toward trauma. But not only. Since field medical corpsmen expect to encounter civilians who need treatment for a host of diseases, and their troops are exposed to just about every vector in existence, some training is there. I still have some of my military medical texts. They aren’t too shabby.
Glad to know the troops will be of assistance.
Still and all, it would be good if more people realized the actual death toll in Italy today is lower than it was a year ago today.
And I’d love an exec order from Trump that no governor, such as the straw for brains jerk in Nevada, prevent any citizens in their states from asking for and receiving the anti-malarial that helps knock the COVID 19 on its butt. No family member should have to sit and watch someone to succumb to the virus when there is a remedy.
They’re calling us the retired reserves?? This is news – not been made known………wow
