If Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves, how come the citizens are eating rat meat?

    Oh yeah. Socialism.

They’re not really all that good in coming up with new boilerplate tropes, are they? (Code Pink should probably talk to Beto about how much of a glut of oil the U.S. is producing on their own right now back in his home state and New Mexico alone….)

Chart showing support for each leader by country.

I like that they use yellow for countries on the fence…cowards.

Statement from Guaidó this morning when this all started:

We have talked with our allies in the international community and have their firm support for this irreversible process of change in our country. The # Operation Freedom began and we will resist until we achieve a free Venezuela.

An interview Annika did with him back in March:

My mistake, Deputy for the National Assembly for Miranda, detained on 26 April 2019.

Pray for the people of Venezuela as they choose, through violence, whether it should be the same, or a different, socialist slavemaster to drive them down the path to ruin.

These are the times that try men’s souls.

From a cursory glance at the feeds today I got the sick feeling that they pulled the pin too early, and went all in b/c they thought – no doubt correctly, given recent events – that Guaidó would be arrested. If this fails, it seems reasonable to assume the resistance is done: Venezuela’s transformation to Cuba status is complete.

I wonder how it is that a prosperous country ends up like this.  Perhaps it is universal if the people are not diligent in deciding what is good and right, from what sounds good and right.

I have read that dictators pay those they need to stay in office, like the military, and the rest of the people can just eat dirt.  So it doesn’t take much to keep in power, when you have decimated the majority of the population.

I’m thinking of buying a gun.

It’d be interesting if we could induce some more defections by inserting some more news reports like that into the country.

I have a bad feeling that anyone who could potentially lead a real revolt in the military has already been purged.

It’s to be hoped for though as with Maduro relying on these Cuban forces and FAES thugs there is the making of a Tiananmen style massacre here.

Maduro assuring the world that everything is just fine, nothing to see here.

An interesting aspect of this tweet is that it exists at all. Twitter will ban users from their platform for the smallest of infractions real or imagined if they disapprove of them yet this fellow is literally murdering his own citizens and is allowed to remain and distribute propaganda while doing so.

Like the Khomenist regime’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, now designated a terrorist organization by President Trump.

In an unusual morning appearance, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro Thursday asked his military for “loyalty” and warned them that the United States was stoking discontent to create division in the ranks and spark a civil war.

Addressing several thousand troops in Caracas alongside Defense Minister Vladimir Padrnio López, Maduro said the Trump administration was playing with fire by trying to divide the armed forces.

It’s impossible to miss that while the Maduro regime has shot individual citizens and murdered many by simply crushing them with armored vehicles he has yet to resort to full scale slaughter.

Machine gunning entire crowds as in Tiananmen Square, what does it mean? I have no idea whatsoever.
