The Renovated Man

I am born anew of Spirit. Each day I am made new again, and I learn the lessons that are before me easily.

Children learn rapidly. They are sponges of information absorption. They have not yet filled their heads with nonsense that prevents learning. Indeed, we sometimes fear they will learn the wrong things, which has led to the adage, “Little pitchers have big ears.” Our capacity to learn has not diminished from the day we were born.

Our minds are like Theseus’ ship. We constantly renew and replace our thoughts and beliefs, to create a more refined structure, pulling out the old, rotted planks to replace them with new, stronger thoughts and beliefs. We are old, yet made new, re-invigorated with new ideas and the movement of Spirit.

Let us be born anew. Let us renovate ourselves and our minds each day.

St. John 3:5-6, “Jesus answered, saying to him, Truly, truly, If a man is not born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. What is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

How beautifully put, and so inspirational. Once in a while, like, say, daily, we need someone to proclaim the lasting, the real and the eternal.

This is a good beginning to meditate on for 2019 – since the current culture is recycling with old rotted wooden planks.

A reflection on continuous inner renovation. I believe @seawriter and our Navy and Marine veterans can tell you that a ship underway is constantly in a state of renovation. Perhaps the same goes for our voyage through life.

This conversation is part of our Group Writing Series under January’s theme: Renovation. There are plenty of dates still available. Have a great home renovation story? Maybe with photos? Have a terrible home renovation story? How about furniture, or an instrument, a plane, a train or an automobile? Are you your renovation project, or someone else’s? Do you have criticism or praise for some public renovation, accomplished or desperately needed? Are you a big fan, or not so much, of home renovation shows? Unleash your inner fan or critic. We have some wonderful photo essays on Ricochet; perhaps you have a story with before and after photos, or reflections on the current state of a long project. The possibilities are endless! Why not start a conversation? Our schedule and sign-up sheet awaits.

I’ll post the February topic and sign-up sheet mid-month. I’ll consider topical suggestions.
