Mike Murphy: Onward to 2020! (Conversations With Bill Kristol)
Veteran political strategist and commentator Mike Murphy assesses where the Republicans and the Democrats stand as we look toward 2020. What are President Trump’s prospects for reelection? Where are the divisions in the Democratic Party, and which Democratic candidates might prevail in the primaries? And could there be a successful primary challenge to Trump? Murphy shares his thoughts on these and other pressing questions with his usual blend of political insight and humor.
Bill Kristol brings Mike Murphy back to Ricochet for another go?
Troll level: Epic.
Fun to listen to Murphy whore for Bloomberg with the other leftist Kristol lapping it up.
Hey look, the guy that torpedoed Rubio and enabled Trump the entire primary!
An excellent podcast. Thank you!
Thank you for an excellent podcast. I always enjoy listening to Mike Murphy. Same for Bill Kristol.
Well, two people are happy. That’s something.
The year 2020 could be an interesting with the first president to be impeached by the House of Representatives AND re-elected — with an even smaller share of the popular vote with ethnic, self-aware California shamed into voting about 75% anti-Trump.
Phooey.
Did Mike Murphy toss off foul insults at Ricochet’s subscriber base again this time? That was always fun.
No. He talked about conservatives, those who have embraced Trump and those who still belong to the Party of Reagan.
Are you afraid of what he has to say?
I had never heard of Mike Murphy before and just randomly tuned in and suddenly (at 24:18) he says Bloomberg should say “I’m going to spend 5 billion to take this cancer out of the White House.” What a smug, self-righteous creature! And Kristol is the pinnacle of smugness egging him on. Why does Ricochet cater to such people?
Because a substantial minority of Ricochet feel that Trump has hijacked “The Party of Reagan.”
I wonder what Reagan would say about smug anti-Trumpers. There wasn’t a smug bone in Reagan’s body. There will never be another Reagan and there will never be another Lincoln, either. For this moment in time, Trump is the best the Republicans can do.
Trump fights back against the PC hordes like no one else. That is his virtue.
I hope that I do not come off as smug. I have had numerous brickbats thrown at me by EverTrumpers.
“Substantial.” I do not think this word means what you think it means.
I don’t mean a majority. I think that a relevant statistic was suggested in an earlier post, that Ricochet consists of 20% Early Trumpers, 30% Late Trumpers, 35% Reluctant Trumpers and 15% NeverTrumpers.
Hardly. Can I ask why you seem to endorse so many foul, nasty people, like Bill Kristol, Rick Wilson, Jen Rubin and Mike Murphy?
I belong to the “Party of Reagan,” not the “Party of Trump.” I am a member of the GOP, not the GOP-T.
I read with interest the expressed goals of the RNC was not to elect conservatives, or Republicans, but to reelect Trump. Trump is not the party. The party is much bigger than one person.
That also includes your idealized and ahistorical version of Reagan.
I listened to it. Independent of the fact that there is nothing detectably conservative about Mike Murphy, he just seems like a deeply unpleasant person.
You didn’t answer the question, Ivan. You seem to have a problem with the President’s temperament, yet the people you consistently endorse are extremely foul-mouthed, crass, and insulting — toward the President and toward conservatives like me.
How do you square that circle?
Can I have my money back?
Drew,
You, more than anyone else, delight getting into my face, and/or taking potshots and cheap shots at me. I do not recall you ever saying a kind or respectful thing to me.
Gary
Thanks. I think I have my answer.
You are welcome.
Because Ricochet is a political discussion group and not a mutual admiration society.
Be advised I’m not a fan of Mike Murphy or of various members of this site but I would not banish any of them just because I think they’re wrong or just beneath arguing with. The entire point of Ricochet is to be a place where those who are right of center can argue with each other.
This is an outrage your honor! I will take second to none in this field of endeavor.
I would not banish Murphy, but I fail to see what purpose is served by validating him and his demoralizing snootiness through a protracted interview.
Perhaps so that debate will bounce/ricochet among conversants, without harm being intended or inflicted, YB-E: training and practice?
I hear you, Nanda.
It’s like this: I have an allergic reaction to elitists of all types and fail to see much difference between those who call themselves conservatives and those on the left. At the end of the day, all elitists claim to know what’s best for “the little people” and have only a passing, if any, acquaintance with common sense. Elitists of all stripes also meet in their staunchly secular approach to life. This is completely understandable since why would you have any need for G-d when you know everything!
