Résumé Enhancements for Democrat Women Candidates
Hat tip to Rush Limbaugh for the phrase “résumé enhancement.” The Wall Street Journal did an article last week (no link, behind paywall) on the many women running for Congress around the country. Here are some of the attributes and actions the Democrats used to further their campaigns.
Erin Collier, running in Upstate New York, stated in her March campaign announcement that “I’m not going to let those boys beat me.”
Kelda Roys in Wisconsin and Krish Vignarajah in Maryland posted pictures of themselves breastfeeding their babies.
Illinois House candidate Sol Flores described being sexually assaulted as a child.
Amy McGrath from Kentucky launched her House campaign describing how the the US Marines told her she could not become a combat fighter pilot.
I do not understand how any of those stories could contribute to a woman’s fitness for serving in the US Congress. I guess the status of “victim” is the main résumé enhancement for Democrat women.

Fred, may respectfully suggest that you move your anti-Trump argument to its own thread? The entire idea of my original post seems to have disappeared under an avalanche of Trump-dislike. Thank you.
They are using public images of breastfeeding because they believe most people disapprove of it. Hence being a victim.
People give nasty looks, etc.
Not my experience. People were always supportive of me publicly breastfeeding, but I was also respectful of others.
Pretty certain these are not. Its the “my body, I’ll do with it what I want no matter how uncomfortable I make you!” And if discomfort happens, victim.
If I may say so, Fred’s first comment took the discussion off topic and deserved to be flagged. But RB is being nice here.
In the spirit of actually getting back on topic, I’ll make the following observation:
You’re absolutely right that these things have nothing to do with how good a Congresswoman someone will be. But that’s not the point. What they do is signal that the candidate is a woman. With the one exception of the candidate who was sexually assaulted as a child, these are all stories that only women can tell.
We’ve completely left the age of having candidates engage actual policy debates, in favor of signalling affliliation to various identity groups. These candidates are showing that they are women in the hope of appealing to the specific sorts of women that they think are going to show up in the coming Blue Wave(TM).
Note that the right is not immune from this kind of thing; a similar dynamic appears between Trump and his supporters. The difference is that the left seems especially vapid at this time because their internal divisions on what agenda to accomplish have still not been resolved.
And to be fair, the age in which candidates never signaled affiliation to various identity groups never existed. Whether the candidate was a military man, a Texan, or something else, has always mattered to some voters, and politicians have behaved accordingly.
Still, affiliation comes to the fore at some times more than others. Right now seems to be one of those times.
