Members Meetup, NYC, October 19th

A lot of people are saying that the next debate should be cancelled.  Most of them are the usual suspects.

Whether it is or isn’t, I’m going to need a drink.

So, how about we meet up?  Ricochet members only — and if you’re not a member, join! — and maybe some cool all-star guests, we gather in a convivial establishment somewhere in Manhattan, or if we want to freak out the locals we can make it Brooklyn.  We’ll go somewhere where they’ll show the debate on a big screen and serve even bigger drinks and we’ll watch together in a sign of unity.

Trumpers, MAGAs, #neverTrumpers, all are welcome.  The only thing you need to be is a Ricochet member.  (So join already.)

Wednesday, October 19th, at 9PM.  We’ll start earlier, naturally.

Here’s all we need, and I’m asking the Ricochet community for some help:

Where?  Where’s a good, solid place with a generous pour where we can all gather?  Anyone know a sympathetic tavern owner in the Manhattan area?  We’ll pay our own way, of course — we’re conservatives, after all — but we’d like to have a place set aside for drinking and weeping and (maybe) occasionally cheering.

Who’s in?

The Hong Kong membership contingent will be there! Really. I can’t believe this happens to be on a day that I’m in NYC anyway *and* have a free evening. Agree with any of the Times Square venues as they’re just a subway stop or 10-minute walk from Grand Central and Penn Stations, plus Port Authority.

You don’t HAVE to watch. Drinking and socializing is a GREAT distraction. Please come.

Well allright then!  I’ll be there.

I was going to drive up on Friday, but I might bump that up to Monday for this ? Has a venue been chosen? People I know have had good dealings with O’Lunney’s.

When my wife and I “watch” the debates at home, I drink Maker’s Mark, read Twitter, and fall asleep.  I’ll try to refrain from the last two activities.

I am a one of the dreaded silent Ricochet members (never post) , but I did attend the debate watch/meet-up in New Hampshire earlier this year and it was a great experience. I hope to join everyone in New York next week ! Cheers

You’re getting your day in court soon? Sorry to hear that. I hope you are acquitted. ;-)

Hey–was just there this evening. Don’t you think Texas is a good place for NY to get together and relax?

I’m going to have to finalize my hotel arrangements shortly for my travels to MA and NYC next week.  It would be good to have a room within stumbling distance of the venue….

    Phil:

Hi. There are a few of us who are researching options for a private room in a saloon/pub/bar/tavern. I believe that we are all focusing on mid town within stumbling distance of Penn Station and Grand Central (although that offends my hipster sensibilities – see my Google Map of NYC I made for friends visiting from out of town) so I think that you can make your plans accordingly. You’ll probably be able to stumble to any midtown hotel and worst case scenario you’ll be a short and cheap UberX ride away.

My calander is not my own.     To quote from an old Bill Cosby routine :

“I’m not the Boss in my own house and that’s OK.    Because I’ve seen the Boss’s job…and I don’t want it!”

That at being said, I think I’m in.

OK folks, I’m happy to report that we have at least one option for a venue. It’s a private room in a pub located in Midtown (South), has a TV, and can accommodate up to 30.  I’ve reserved it, but am working with a few other options. Until we have final confirmation I won’t post the location to avoid confusing anyone, but rest assured, we won’t be homeless. More to follow soon.

Is there any parking near Grand Central Station, and if so, what would it cost for an evening?

I also reserved a room. It’s a little bigger. We should probably settle this. A knife fight in the spire of the Chrysler building makes the most sense…

Settling this ASAP would be much appreciated, b/c some of us are coming from far enough away to need to reserve a hotel room. And they ain’t getting cheaper! Any word yet on whether the venue will accommodate a minor (16 yrs old)?

Um, guys, I might be able to show up, but I’d need to know where. I’d recommend picking a site ideally near both Grand Central and easy access to parking. But anyway, someone (Rob?) please decide!

Fear not, folks. Rob will post the location soon. This evening, I scouted both options that are available to us and they are both good. One is the west 40s and the other the east high 20s. Both close to Grand Central and Penn Station.
