Members Meetup, NYC, October 19th
A lot of people are saying that the next debate should be cancelled. Most of them are the usual suspects.
Whether it is or isn’t, I’m going to need a drink.
So, how about we meet up? Ricochet members only — and if you’re not a member, join! — and maybe some cool all-star guests, we gather in a convivial establishment somewhere in Manhattan, or if we want to freak out the locals we can make it Brooklyn. We’ll go somewhere where they’ll show the debate on a big screen and serve even bigger drinks and we’ll watch together in a sign of unity.
Trumpers, MAGAs, #neverTrumpers, all are welcome. The only thing you need to be is a Ricochet member. (So join already.)
Wednesday, October 19th, at 9PM. We’ll start earlier, naturally.
Here’s all we need, and I’m asking the Ricochet community for some help:
Where? Where’s a good, solid place with a generous pour where we can all gather? Anyone know a sympathetic tavern owner in the Manhattan area? We’ll pay our own way, of course — we’re conservatives, after all — but we’d like to have a place set aside for drinking and weeping and (maybe) occasionally cheering.
Who’s in?

I’m in! Looking forward to seeing everyone. Sadly, I can’t recommend a location. It’s been a long time since I lived in the city.
Rob,
I’ve heard that this place is really nice.
Regards,
Jim
Oh man I can’t make it, but check out these venues:
The Villiage Pourhouse (always good for a flip cup tournament if interested)
The Mercury Bar (Midtown East side)
Stout NYC (41st by Grand Central)
Tonic East (by Penn Station)
Joshua Tree (the owner is fine Irish lad and they show old 80’s videos)
enjoy
How about a Reluctant Trump homefield advantage: Donovan’s Pub in Woodside?
THANKS!
I’m in, but drawing a blank with regard to a sympathetic proprietor. Will ask around. As usual Mate De’s suggestions are good. She will be missed.
UPDATE: but PJS is in! She and I will pour out a 40 oz for the missing Mate De.
And there’s Chuckles in West Nyack.
And Harry’s Shoes!
WaPo says,” can we all just vote now” instead of having our blood countess have to answer for Benghazi?
How about Judge Roy Bean (56th btw. 5th and 6th)?–http://www.judgeroybeannyc.com/
Haha – I’ve visited New York City once… and do occasionally envy those with the ability to simply hop on a plane and make visits.
But still waiting for you to swing by Yakima next time you drive back to LA… because, of course, it’s totally on the way.
Somewhere near GCT makes it easier for people to travel from the civilized world.
I’m in.
So many of the pubs around Times Square have multiple floors — O’Lunney’s, the Playwright(s), Connolly’s, maybe the Perfect Pint as well, can’t remember for sure but perhaps they’d reserve an area if you had a decent headcount.
And of course, there’s always Langan’s, which has to be more conservative-friendly, seeing as the Fox folks tend to hang out there.
Hmm. I’ll be in Worcester, MA for that week — that’s on the border of close enough for a drive down. It’s been decades since I’ve driven around in the Big Apple, though. Anyone in the Worcester area want to join me for a road trip w/ return in the wee hours?
Edit: I could hold my customer off for a half day Thursday morning, I suppose.
They say Eskimos have 100 words for “snow” :)
Years ago, I visited an Irish boyfriend’s home town. As we took our first walk through the place, he says “so, this is ‘Church Street’, because the church is on it, and this is ‘Boyle Road’, because it’s the road to Boyle, and that’s ‘Bridge Street’, because . . .”
“Yeah, okay, I get the idea” I said, “but it doesn’t seem like a very good system.”
“Why not?”
“Well, how in the world do you know which ‘Pub Street’ is which?”
well, I had a suggestion for a venue but I see my favorite NYC haunt has been closed for about 25 years. I used to ship out of Brooklyn in the early 80’s…23th Street I believe…MooreMcCormack lines.I’d always come up a few days early before the ship arrived just to spend time in the city. Would spend many afternoons and almost every evening at the Lone Star Cafe. The bar guys got to know me and would set up an 86 proof Wild Turkey before I had said a word. Great music and only a short walk from the Lutheran Seaman Centre. Room for under twenty bucks. Now I read that it has closed…replaced by a Korean deli. Hell’s breath….
I’m generally a lurker here, but, hell, I’m up for a drink. Count me in.
Wonderful idea. I plan to come.
I will plan for it! (don’t know much about NYC venues though…how about the Yale Club?).
Might be tough with a 2 hour drive and school/work the next morning, but I will try.
Whoever goes, enjoy the drinks for those of us who can’t.
Yep, Perfect Pint has three floors.
Great idea. I’m in. Perfect Pint, Connolly’s or even Papillon (not sure of the proprietor but they have a 2nd floor that can be sectioned off) all good choices.
Also, Annie Moore’s has a lower floor that is ideal and is used almost exclusively for group events.
This is a perfect event for Trump Tower. I’m bringing Robert Spencer as a date so I can drink with John Podhoretz.
one should not joke like that.
Any lingering doubt I had that Trump won the last debate is now gone. Had the WP any confidence whatsoever that Hillary would come out ahead after another debate, it would never make such a suggestion.
No Crimsons allowed. No folkies either.
Since @roblong proposed this meetup, he’s in the driver’s seat. Rob, pick a place or delegate to someone in NYC to make this happen — it’s only a week away.
