Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Members Meetup, NYC, October 19th
A lot of people are saying that the next debate should be cancelled. Most of them are the usual suspects.
Whether it is or isn’t, I’m going to need a drink.
So, how about we meet up? Ricochet members only — and if you’re not a member, join! — and maybe some cool all-star guests, we gather in a convivial establishment somewhere in Manhattan, or if we want to freak out the locals we can make it Brooklyn. We’ll go somewhere where they’ll show the debate on a big screen and serve even bigger drinks and we’ll watch together in a sign of unity.
Trumpers, MAGAs, #neverTrumpers, all are welcome. The only thing you need to be is a Ricochet member. (So join already.)
Wednesday, October 19th, at 9PM. We’ll start earlier, naturally.
Here’s all we need, and I’m asking the Ricochet community for some help:
Where? Where’s a good, solid place with a generous pour where we can all gather? Anyone know a sympathetic tavern owner in the Manhattan area? We’ll pay our own way, of course — we’re conservatives, after all — but we’d like to have a place set aside for drinking and weeping and (maybe) occasionally cheering.
Who’s in?
Published in General
Excellent, I’m in. When I saw Rob was in NYC, I was going to suggest this.
It’s easier for folks coming from outside the city to meet at a place that’s somewhere in the Grand Central – Penn Station nexus.
I will do my best to attend.
Its a double header because we’re going to have readings from Trollope.
Same here. I’m happy to help Bob shore up the New Jersey contingent.
It’s in the works. We’re trying to gauge how many people are interested.
but *Trump* supporters are ok?!?
The U Penn club is just down the street. They must be so proud. :)
The only place fitting of such a meet would be beneath a bridge or an overpass, beside a warm trash can fire. The revolution will not be televised!
I’m about 3 hrs outside the city, but I would come anyway if I could bring my son (16 yrs old). Unfortunately it sounds like many of these venues wouldn’t cater to minors?
I think it depends. If it is a tavern that serves food, they’ll let the kid. If it is a bar only, they may not. Once they select a venue, I can make a fly by and check out the situation for you.
Tell them he identifies as a 30-year-old.
Some of these private rooms look interesting. It’d be great to watch the debate in relative quiet and then have a main bar crowd that we could join afterwards.
There’s an Irish pub on 7th Ave right by Carnegie Hall, called simply “The Irish Pub”. It was the source of an amusing “who’s on first?” type text-message conversation between me and a friend.
“Come meet us, we’re at the Irish pub.” “Sure, which one?” “the Irish Pub.” (etc. etc….)
You could invite some of your RedEye co-panelists.
I’ll PM you a list of the female RedEye panelists without restraining orders on me.
If I’m not on trial that week I’m coming!
We’re supposed to toilet paper the place like a Roman before we leave.
Who’s joking?
Excellent. I am a recognized professional when it comes to TPing. Ask ANYONE I went to high school with.
Okay ya’ll, I am keeping a list. If you have stated that you are coming, or hoping to be there, I will print a name tag for you. Some of you have suggested locations, but not mentioned if you are planning to be there. I’m looking at you @ryanfalcone, @keithsf, @jamesgawron, @quakevoter, @paulkingsbery. And I will bring plenty of blank tags and Sharpies, because that’s how I roll.
If you don’t want to post publicly, please pm me. :) I’m so happy I can be there!
I’ll join! It might be worth checking whether any Raines Law Room options are available if we’re talking 30-50 people. I’m happy to make calls once you have an idea of numbers.
@Rob Long, are you going to invite any of the local NR contributors? What about Troy?
I’m interested but would be even more so if we did not watch the debate.
This is next Wednesday, right? I’ll be home (Ithaca, NY) but heading to work down in NJ probably Thursday for an inspection Friday. I could shoot down to the city for the day, do some geocaching in the boroughs. Meet up with you all, then head to work from there. I never thought I would get around to actually attend a meet-up, but this is sounding like it’s too interesting to pass up if I can bestir my lazy self.
Somebody has got to decide where and when.
You don’t HAVE to watch. Drinking and socializing is a GREAT distraction. Please come.
Paul,
I always liked the Judge. He really knew how to negotiate.
He liked animals too. Well, not as much as Miss Lillie.
Regards,
Jim
Going to invite everyone in the Ricochet family to come.
I would like to recommend Texas as your meeting site. We would welcome you. And at pretty much any place you choose you’ll find a sympathetic tavern owner.
I would so desperately love to be there with all of you. I’m in NY often for work, but unfortunately just not that week. I will let you know if my schedule changes.
PJS,
Sorry, I won’t be anywhere near NYC. However, if I was I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Regards,
Jim
