Front Seat Cat:We had the cream of the crop in 17 candidates who put themselves out for ridicule, stupid questions at the debates, endless pounding within the party – and still Trump took all. So that should tell you that floating another candidate via a 3rd party will not only make any difference, but further complicate keeping Clinton out of the White House.

I am hoping that the most talented people will be tapped by Trump – surrounding himself with the best in each field. That would speak loudly. I have always liked Allen West. I also think tapping younger talent would go a long way. When I heard on Fox the other night, Laura Ingraham saying Newt G. would be a good VP, I cringed. This is the kind of thinking that got us where we are.

I agree with some of what you say, but not about Newt. Can’t help but love Newt…

I like Newt too – but to have a winning ticket in this political climate, it has to appeal to the Millennials and the younger generations, women, minorities – you know the drill – it would be touted as the two old white guys ticket…that’s all I was thinking – I only wish we could have a Newt….

    I Walton:Republicans destroyed Rubio…

I wasn’t aware that Chuck Schumer was a Republican now. Rubio destroyed himself. He’s an adult. He knew what he was doing.

Hear! Hear! Let us dispel once and for all with this fiction that Marco Rubio didn’t know what he was doing. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Mate De: Yes, Gary Johnson is that bad. He said he would force Jewish bakers to make Nazi cakes, and supports mental health screening before being able to buy a gun. I know some of you may think it is reasonable but can interpretation can be onerous and is ripe for abuse, also not Libertarian. If you must go Libertarian go Austin Petersen.

I agree about Petersen. The two points you make about Johnson were made on Crowder’s show.

Yes that and the libertarian debate. I was much more impressed by Petersen, Johnsen is along for the ride and is more liberal than libertarian

Lucy Pevensie:Here’s a writer on Redstate making the case for Governor Perry.

Does Rick Perry want a situation where his native Texas has no say in his election? The deadline for independent candidates to file for President is on Monday, May 9.

It doesn’t matter. People can write him in.

Not exactly. Mr. Perry would have to file paper work as a write in candidate by some time in August. So yeah if he decided to do this he could be come a writing in candidate. If he does not file paper work in August and people vote for him that vote just doesn’t count, it has the same effect as not voting at all.

Apparently, Perry is off the table, having now endorsed Trump.

He’s open to the VP slot too.

Let the Rick Perry bashing begin.

Lucy Pevensie:This thread is why Ricochet will die if there are no closed groups. We have a large group of like-minded people here trying to have a serious discussion, and it is derailed by a small and obstreperous group of trolls.

Your answer is to block out posters who don’t agree with you? I am not a troll and I do not intend to be told to shut up and go to my room.

I said it a long time ago, and I’ll say it again: I see no reason why the people of Texas could not change their ballot rules for this, exceptional situation.

Surely we can suspend the Constitution just this once, you know, for a very good reason.  Perhaps we could persuade Obama to skip this election, giving him four more years in exchange for saving us from Trumpian doom.

    Eh?

Really? Now state ballot rules are the equivalent of the Constitution?  Seems like some people need to return to high school and learn a little basic civics.
